Contra costa fire Marshall Lewis shows one of three nonworking smoke alarms found inside the housesitting on the kitchen county. Not only were the smoke alarms not installed on the walls, and there were for batteries at all for them to operate. These 5 devices, more than likely would have meant the difference between life and death this morning. The fire jumped at the house next door, but was quickly put out. My neighbor just started banging on my door, and i came outside thinking he was he wanted something else, and then i was, like, man, whats going on . He sshgs like, its a fire. Its a fire. Fire Officials Say the cause of this blaze is not considered suspicious, but how it started remains under investigation. In pittsburgh, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. Right now rescue operations are underway to help save hundreds of people trapped by colorado floods. The National Guard has already rescued 1,700 people. More than 1,200 remain unaccounted for, though authorities hope many are just out of communication and are okay. Authorities say a sixth person was likely killed by the flood. An 80yearold woman who was trapped in her house is now missing and presumed dead. Abc News Reporter chuck has an update on the rescue effort. Reporter more rain and more ruin. The wet weather even threw hail into the mix sunday. Oh, my gosh. You can hear the alarm in the school girls voice as her bus hits water logged roads on the class trip. For some coloradans something good from the sky rescue. More than 1,700 flood victims have been flown out of harms way. They rescued by helicopters and hurricane katrina. Snoo here 85 students were snatched to safety from the rising floodwaters. Oh, my god. We have a large number of helicopters and air support, which is, many of the, an unfortunately the only way to execute many of these rescues. Why is speed so important . Timelapsed photography shows the treacherous water inundating this farmland in less than half an hour. This family made it out in the nick of time. Ive never been in an evacuation. Its scary. Fourlegged friends with r also among the victims. I think we lost three baby calves, and two kittens. Good samaritans saved this 2yearold quarter horse stranded for 24 hours in freezing water. We talked with one Red Cross Team member who just landed in fort collins, colorado. She said about 1,000 people hope to be rescued by chopper out of stranded mountain communities, but it rained again today, which did not help those efforts. Zoog they cant run the helicopters in the rain in this kind of weather. Its just too dangerous. So the people who were waiting to be airlifted have another night on the mountain. Thats the disaster continuing. Team coordinators expect more california red cross volunteers to be dispatched to colorado. They will go to relieve local volunteers or set up additional shelters if needed. A brush fire in lake county forced more than a dozen homes to evacuate, but the fire is now fully contained. It burned 30 acres near the community of clear lake, which is on clear lake. Heres a look at the fire from across the lake. You can see the flames approaching homes earlier this evening. A second picture shows it from above. 15 to 20 homes were evacuated. The third biggest wooifd wildfire in state history is now 84 contained. The rim fire started last month, has burned more than 256,000 acres and cost more than 100 million to fight. Emergency Response Teams are beginning to assess the damage. Theyve put in an initial funding request for more than 362,000. The money would be used to stablingize roads, remove trees to build barricades and make hazard signs. Video from tech firm Cambridge Consultants shows the cameras being enstalled. Theyre built to be stealthy and rugged. Durable enough to survive rough weather and wild animals. The cameras also detect vibrations. They can use that information to track vehicles and more importantly gunshots. It looks like the shots used to help crime in richland and oakland. They can triache late and get rangers to the area as quickly as possible. If the cameras are helpful, theyll be installed in other wildlife sensitive areas.
