It happened around 10 00 last night in front of a gas station off of highway 680 in martinez. The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department says when the deputy shot his gun no one was hit. The incident is under investigation. A driver was killed when his car went over an embankment in the south bay early this morning and chp is praising a Good Samaritan for helping save the passengers life. It happened around 1 15 this morning on northbound 17 in los gatos near the lexington reservoir. Investigators say the car went off the road falling 100 feet down an embankment. The chp says the man and woman both were ejected from the car. The driver, the man, died at the scene. Another man who witnessed the crash flagged down other drivers to call for help. I go down there, i was like, lady, im here. Shes like, do you have a phone . My phones dead. Im going to go up and try to get some help. I started flagging cars down. Thanks to that man crews were on the scene. It took them an hour to pull the woman to safety using the rope system. She is in the hospital this morning. The chp is now investigating this as a dui crash. New details this morning about a plane that left a bay area airport and crashed in oregon. Investigators now say one person, the pilot, was killed. It was initially reported that two people had died. The plane which took off from the San Carlos Airport crashed about a mile from madras airport east of salem, oregon, just before 2 00 yesterday afternoon. And then you can expect to see slightly breezy conditions along the coast. Typically the hottest portions of the day are anywhere between 12 00 and 3 00. So keep that in mind if youre out walking your pet. Its better to take him out during the cooler portions of the day. Todays predicted highs very comfortable for the most part. The warmer spots will be further inland in areas like livermore and antioch and concord. We head over to palo alto well be in the upper 70s. I definitely want to say were experiencing a nice combination between summer and fall. Now lets talk about next weeks outlook. We have that High Pressure moving out. By tuesday we can expect to see the system that will bring in the chance of seeing some Early Morning clouds tomorrow which is, of course, what were keeping a close eye on because we are expecting that Solar Eclipse and we can expect to see some changes on the way as well. The later portion of the day well begin to see some warming. Lets talk about the eclipse outlook. Many of you are wondering where there are going to be the best spots to view it. The eclipse starts at about 9 01 and if you notice were looking out for this marine layer. It will depend on how deep the marine layer is but typically we can expect to start off with Early Morning clouds and that dense fog early on. But right now judging by the models i have a feeling that, as always, it will be the best location to view it will be further inland spots. If you notice by about 10 00 a. M. When were expecting that eclipse the inland spots have little to no cloud cover. Inland areas should be just fine to view that eclipse. Over the next seven days we do have changes on the way as we head into monday and tuesday. Well see that cooldown thanks to that system thats going to bring a slight cooling trend with 83 degrees by wednesday. Thats probably going to be our warmest day of the week. Something you will remember the rest of your life. The stories of seeing that eclipse are things you will be passing down to your grandchildren. Some cities are hosting eclipse festivals this weekend. How best to see epic eclipse here in the bay area. Reporter the space and Science Center in the Oakland Hills is a place to see the stars. Its home to some of the most powerful telescopes around. This is a computer control telescope. Reporter but when it comes to total eclipse, you need nothing more to see it than a piece of paper. Its a piece of card stock and punch a hole in it and use it to project an image on to a white surface. Reporter its, of course, dangerous to look at the sun. So many outlooks are peddling eclipse glasses for 2. 99 a pop. You wont be able to see anything unless youre looking at the sun. Another safe way is welders glass. This is called a sun spotter and well see a little image of the sun right here on this white screen. If you really want to get serious about observing this telescope set up to take photographs. This is a solar telescope. Call it the Great American eclipse because its going to cross the entire country. Reporter a swath of the country in whats called the path of totality will witness the total eclipse while the bay area will experience about a 75 eclipse. Even if you cant get to somewhere where you can see the total eclipse even in the bay area youll be able to see a partial eclipse. Reporter chabot will host a morning eclipse viewing party just after 9 00 a. M. There is one other wild card that could put a damper on the view in some bay area cities. Unfortunately, august is the foggiest month of the year for the bay area. Reporter mckegan is joining the mass migration heading to oregon to watch in the path of totality.
