Because i looked over your shoulder and saw you were looking at the alltime records for temperatures that kari had posted. Napa was like 113 in june. And its going to get up to 105 this weekend, which is still really hot. But its going to be not recordbreaking, but definitely dangerous as you make plans for the weekend. The heat advisory now in effect for all of these areas shaded in orange, that does not include the immediate coastline, San Francisco and that extends down toward Half Moon Bay. So it will be very hot, Solano County included in an excessive heat advisory. Thats where you definitely need to take it easy. I want to show you some of these High Temperatures were heading toward today. Napa up to 97, 98 in concord and san jose 89 degrees. We will have some Cool Temperatures along the coast and places where you can go and cool off. Ill talk more about that coming up. Mike gives us an update on a wrongway driver. Reported on the peninsula. We saw in fact live, we saw chp flying down the southbound side checking out to make sure everything is okay. Three units were assigned to check this out. Three checked without incident. I havent seen any disturbance and thank goodness no crashes. Ill show you the map the rest of the peninsula, an easy drive right now. 92 will be a concern later on. Kari is talking about the heat heading toward Half Moon Bay. Those are going to be very crowded over the weekend so keep that in mind. Avoiding areas farther over where theres dangerously hot weather like the trivalley, which is a Pleasant Drive right now. A little build right here through hayward and union city. Thats actually pretty light, very light for those portions of the east bay. As we look over towards the bay bridge, we do have the metering lights on, but look at these travel times. Just 15 minutes at the top of your screen from highway 4 to the bay bridge. We usually see that maybe 4 thei4 30, 5 00. But the metering lights are on at the bay bridge toll plaza. A smooth ride on these transit agencies. Normal routes through downtown so the parade only lasts one day. Maybe we can have another one next year. Some breaking news right now. Overseas within last couple of hours weve learned that the death toll in london has now risen to 30 in that dead low highrise tower. Scotland yard is opening up a criminal investigation into the fire. This as firefighters have still not been able to conduct a full search of the building. They say they will not be able to do that until the support structures are in place to shore up the tower so the death toll could rise from 30. Breaking news to get to. The Russian Defense Ministry Says that they might have killed isis leader, top leader in an air strike. Russian officials posted on facebook that an air strike on may 28th killed 30 field commanders and up to 300 militants during an isis conference. They are also saying that there are reports that Ibrahim Abu Bakr al baghdadi, isis leader, was also killed. U. S. Officials are working hard to try and confirm that. There have been multiple reports of baghdadis death in the past that have ultimately turned out to be false. We are learning more about the men killed in the u. P. S. Shooting in San Francisco. Drivers benson louie, wayne chan and also Michael Lefiti were shot and killed boy their fellow coworker, jimmy lam, on wednesday. Replacement u. P. S. Drivers broke the bad news to customers that their driver wayne chan will not be coming back. This morning i was walking to work and i saw the u. P. S. Drivers around the block. I was like, oh, god, i cant wait to see wayne to make sure that hes okay. And then they came and told us. He was a really caring guy. So of course hes going to get involved with everybody. And were going to get involved with him. It takes a piece of my heart. Folks just see them every day. People are also grieving for this driver, 50yearold benson louie who was also a devoted volleyball coach and a father figure. The memorial for mike lefiti continues to grow in die mamond heights, which was his route. There was also a life taken too soon. An antioch boy was killed during an accidental shooting last week. Friends and family gathered to remember 15yearold marcos garcia. He was shot with a pellet rifle by a friend. It was accidental. The viewing will be at haoly Cross Cemetery and the funeral is tomorrow at immaculate heart. The San Jose Police department is looking at its biggest batch of recruits in three years. The San Jose Police academy has 54 recruits this year, tying the number of recruits from 2013. As you know by now, the department has been facing a staffing crisis in recent years. All of this last night in los angeles. Were listening to the chopper people there describing whats going on. Theres the chase. He gets out of the car and starts running, ends up on top of the roof. Police say the driver sped through red lights, swerved into oncoming traffic and eventually crashed into a stop sign, ran away, ended up on that roof. Early reports suggest that he was wanted in a kidnapping investigation. Breaking news just moments ago. Amazon says its going to buy whole foods markets. Amazon has been pushing hard into the grocery market to start with. It has, and now they have a grocery chain. That news just hitting a few moments ago. Amazon is going to pay shareholders 42 a share. So that is a deal worth 13. 7 billion. Whole foods ceo john mackey will remain the ceo of the Grocery Store chain after the deal closes. Again, amazon buying whole foods. Well continue to track this, but this is brand new news just into the newsroom. Netflix has reversed itself, says it will take part in a Net Neutrality protest next week. Other websites, including amazon, are taking part. The fcc under President Trump plans to reverse moves made by the same fcc under president obama made to protect Net Neutrality. Tech stocks continue to decline. Apple has lost 7 over the last five trading days. In fact reuters points out if you take the five top biggest tech companies, their combined losses just in the past week is enough money to buy the airplane maker boeing for cash. Shares of snap, the Parent Company of snapchat, have fallen to 17 a share. Thats the companys ipo price. So put another way, the company is no more valuable now than it was when investors first bought in. And jetblue has started testing facial recognition at bostons airport. Thats what will keep it nice and cool and keep it cool along the coast as well, so make sure you bring a jacket to the beach and youll be wearing short sleeves and shorts in the valleys. Just a short drive changes everything. Heres a live look outside at ocean beach this morning, all clear there. The temperature at 57 degrees. The sevenday forecast is now up at the bottom of the screen showing a day of tripledigit temperatures. This is also where well see some high heat in sunol. We start out 61 degrees. Whatever you have to do, get it t done early. Look at how hot, up to 98 degrees in concord today, napa 97. Palo alto reaching 88 degrees and San Francisco will see a high of 77. Somewhere nice and cool to go golfing will be at Half Moon Bay. There will be some fog to start out during the morning, but then as we head over toward the trivalley, hitting the links there, it will be up to 90 degrees this afternoon. So pick your golf course, depending on the temperatures. And looking at Russian River valley for the weekend, if youre planning to head farther north in the valleys, it will be reaching into the upper 90s all weekend long. Some spots even hitting the triple digits. San francisco stays very nice. Were in the mid70s over the next several days, even into next week. And then for the valleys, we see the tripledigit temperatures coming in there more widespread on sunday. The heat advisory will be in effect and that continues into next week. This is the longest stretch of tripledigit temperatures weve had since 2014. So be careful out there. Mike is showing some slight slowing. Thats right, its a friday light so we expect lighter volume of traffic. Well also talk about the heavy traffic affected by that forecast you just showed, kari. Were showing a smooth drive with a little light slowing through hayward and also at the bottom of your screen for 101 northbound through san jose. Typical for this pattern on a friday, but even lighter because were into summer months now and schools are off right here for vacation. Theres your slowing, hayward and union city. A little build across the san mateo bridge. Thats not bad for 92 right now. Lets look at your map. Were talking about big High Temperatures kari has been showing. Lets get you to waze and get an alternate route. If things get too hot for san carlos, were looking at alternate routes to get to Half Moon Bay. The blue one might seem crazy to you, but trust me when 92 gets bad, that is a good alternate and it shows you how quickly to get to the coast through pacifica. The manufacturer of his new car bought it back correcting what ryan believed to be a 22,000 mistake because he considered that car to be defective. A family of bears found a new home with the oakland zoo after the bears were caught breaking into somebody elses house. A mother black bear and her three cubs raided a home at the Pine Mountain club near bakersfield back in may. The homeowner tried to shoo them away but mama bear took a swipe at her, injuring the homeowners arm. So wildlife experts, instead of putting the bears down, they found them a home at the oakland zoo. They are expected to live in a new Exhibit Opening up next summer. Theyre so cute. Youve got the whole family there. All kids sound the same. Even cub kids. Coming up next on today in the bay we are watching as a number of homeless encampments in San Francisco continue to grow. At least it will be nice and cool in San Francisco. We keep those temperatures down there, reaching into the upper 70s. We stay in the 70s for the weekend, extending into next week. Where it really starts to get hot will be the valleys. Starting today continuing into tomorrow and into next week as well, reaching as hot as 103 degrees next wednesday. Ill talk more about that and well talk about some events going on around the bay area this weekend. Thats in about eight minutes. But mike says folks are finally starting to hit the road. Finally. Its friday, its summertime so we tend to see a later, lighter commute. We had that big celebration yesterday which has cleared and people may heading back to get a little more work done before the week is over. Metering lights are on at the toll plaza. Our live camera does show its starting to get crowded on the flat section so highway 92 westbound sohows a lot more traffic than it did a half hour ago. The peninsula still moves great. Kari mentioned it a second ago, we are getting ready for a heat wave here in the bay area, i think she said 103 degrees in some places over the next few days here. And it could be bad news for folks headed out to the Alameda County fair, which starts today. Chuck coppola is live at the fairgrounds with the steps that you should take if youre headed outside. Good morning, chuck, and the rest of the steers. Reporter thats right. Let me make sure this is very clear. This is not a shot of me, this is a shot of cattle here at the pleasanton county fair. Theyre getting ready to have a cattle drive down main street to kick off the Alameda County fair. That starts at about 10 00 a. M. Its very pleasant right now in pleasanton, but its going to get hot. If youre coming out to the fair, bring sunscreen, wear a hat, drink lots of water. The fair runs through july 9th. Kids are free until 5 00. Sunday dads are free on dads day until 5 00. Theyre going to have the cattle drive that goes through main street here in pleasanton, kicks it off, goes at 10 00 a. M. The fair opens at 11 00 a. M. Its close d on mondays and tuesdays but once july hits, its straight through. If youre going to be outside, heres some precautions we would like to pass on from the red cross, heat tips. Anyone who might be working outside today, try to either postpone some of those outdoor chores until just the morning if you can. Try to avoid doing those things in the afternoon. Use a buddy system. If youre working outside or working in the yard, tell somebody. You know, im going to be outside doing some work, keep an eye on me from time to time. Poli please check on those loved ones, friends, relatives, who do not have air conditioning. And lastly, check on the animals. If youre leaving your home, please leave a window open for them if you dont have the ac on. Hot cars can be deadly for children and pets. Kris, weve got new details to get to right now on the gunman who apparently methodically targeted fellow workers, specific workers at a San Francisco u. P. S. Facility on wednesday. The driver, jimmy lam, shot and killed three coworkers before turning the gun on himself. Two drivers shot in that rampage have been released from the hospital. Witnesses say he entered the facility shortly before a staff meeting that morning on the third floor and singled out his victims, telling other workers to get out of the room. Were told lam may have believed he was being belittled pie some of his fellow drivers. He had recently filed an overtime grievance. Happening today, the two men arrested with the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire could be officially charged in court. They are facing 36 counts each of involuntary manslaughter. Pete is live outside the santa rita jail where the men are being held to explain what could happen in court today. Good morning, pete. Reporter good morning to you, kris and sam. Both men at this hour are behind bars here at the santa rita jail in dublin and expected to be arraigned later today in oakland around 8 30 a. M. This morning were actually getting new details on how one of them is pushing back on the  allegations made by the Alameda County d. A. s office. Ill show you a picture of the two men. To your right is max harris. He spoke exclusively to the east bay times doubting those allegations made by the d. A. s office that he blocked off the second floor stairwell of the warehouse during preparations for the party that took place in that building that night back in december. Prosecutors argue that party goers had to use makeshift stairs to escape the fire which resulted in the death of 36 people. Harris went on to say in that east bay times article that he had no idea where these allegations came from and was also described in that piece as looking gaunt. Now, both men face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. Almenez was the master with harris being the second in command. Since harris was still in custody, todays hearing in oakland is at 11 00 a. M. Thank you, pete. Also happening today, San Francisco reveals the results of this years homeless count. The report says homelessness increased in the Richmond District and tourist hot spots like fishermans wharf. In the rest of the city, the Homeless Population actually decreased by about a half percent to nearly 7500 people. New this morning, some palo alto residents reportedly fuming about what they say is a spike in the number of idling cars seen around town. The concern here is that its leading to more plougollution. One person in particular is being singled out. Mark zuckerberg who lives in palo alto. Antiidlers accuse his security staff of leaving their cars running too long. Facebook actually responded to the claims saying the staffers take every effort they can to limit, quote, unnecessary pollution. Other groups also being singled out include shuttle and van drivers near caltrain stops. Also idling uber and lyft drivers. More than a Million People on the streets of downtown oakland and around lake merritt for the big warriors parade. Were looking at what was some of the setup. Yeah, a full city of people out there yesterday. B. A. R. T. Says more than 487,000 riders ended up using the trains as of 9 00 last night, which is actually 3 less than 2015. So a lot of folks were there, including the stars. Steph curry, k. D. , Klay Thompson and also draymond green. And they made their way through the city. They did, it was really cool to watch. Historic to watch. Folks were packed in there, Standing Shoulder to shoulder cheering for the golden state warrior. Those fans did not want the fun to end at that point. The whole week, man, who knows. Might go for the whole week. Everybody is coming together because we all rock with the warriors. Weve been doing this since they was paying us to go to the game. Thats a true fan. Let me just say one of the floats out there yesterday was the fans, the ticket holders, who have had their tickets for 40 years or more. A mild build northbound 101 through san jose. 87 just starting to see a little slowing down toward san jose so thats a little change over the last ten minutes. Were looking at your bridge delays, a little slowing across the san mateo bridge and also the bay bridge with the metering lights on. San mateo bridge is going to get more crowded as more folks head across 92 and over towards the coast perhaps because it should be warm this weekend as kari will talk about in a second. A quick look at 101 through palo alto, a light drive right now. Not far from this shot is the costco. They have a walkin refrigera r refrigerator, its great on hot days as well. I was just there yesterday, youre right. It is nice and cool in there. Kari, were going to need a little more than lettuce to stay cool. Its going to be one of those weekends were trying to do anything to stay cool. Along the coast, all you have to do is take a short drive. 72 degrees tomorrow for the High Temperature. The bay will be at 85 and 97 for the valleys. On fathers day, make some plans with dad to try to stay cool. Maybe not hitting the golf course unless youre along the coast. Its going to be 101 inland and 75 degrees for the coast. Lets check out some events going on this weekend. The soy and tofu festival happening tomorrow. This is an event you can come and meet mike. Well also have nice cool weather with our temperatures in the low 60s to start and then low 70s throughout the day, just perfect. But it will be hot at Plaza De Cesar Chavez for tomorrow in san jose for juneteenth in the park. Its going to be in the low 90s in the afternoon hours. Try to find a spot in the shade and drink lots of water and try to stay cool. Also for dancing on the avenue, willow glen throughout the afternoon. Our temperatures will be in the low 90s. Then it takes a while before it cools off, but definitely nice and cool as we look at this view. But check out these temperatures in squaw valley. Its going to be in the low 80s there. Imagine that, looking at some snowcapped mountains while youre wearing short sleeves. And for the yosemite area, there will be a slight chance of thunderstorms on sunday, so heads up about that but temperatures are going to be very nice heading throughout the weekend there. Not so nice these temperatures in napa valley. Look at this, today up to 97 degrees. And by sunday, 106 degrees. Youll want to make sure you find some air conditioned vineyards if youre going over there and taking a look at some of the vineyards in the napa valley region. But for carmel valley, very rare that we get temperatures reaching 90 degrees. Thats going to happen this sunday. Ill have a look at the temperature trend for san jose. The jury of seven men and five women say that theyre stuck, theyre deadlocked and cant come to a unanimous agreement on any of those three points of aggravated indecent assault. They have already deliberated for a total of 40 hours. Theyre back at it again today. Cosby and his lawyers are taking this as good news, according to his spokesperson. Today we have really seen mr. Cosby get the justice that he was looking for. Cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting andrea constand, who you just saw in that video. President trump is about to announce changes to americas brand new cuba policy. Scott mcgrew, most americans will still be able to travel to cuba, so what does this mean . Late last night nbc news announced that it confirmed the same news that the Washington Post announced earlier this week, the president is under investigation for obstruction of justice. And then just moments ago, the president confirmed it on twitter. In a startling new tweet, the president says i am being investigated for firing the fbi director by the man who told me to fire the fbi director witch hunt. Now, there is a lot to unpack here. First, the president of the United States has acknowledged hes under investigation. Secondly, we assume he is talking about rod rosenstein. This is the first time weve seen rosenstein come into the president s crosshairs. And its not impossible to think that rosenstein will now have to recuse himself, as he gets dragged into this. Its worth noting in an interview with lester holt, the president specifically said he made the decision to fire comey before rosenstein wrote his letter recommending the firing. This is one of dozens and dozens of cases where you can counter the president s statements with the president s own statement. President trump has taken several shots at the team investigating, calling them bad people. Thats kaucaused some backlash, even among republicans. Robert mueller is a former fbi director who earned a bronze star in vietnam. Amidst all this youve got the Health Care Bill moving through the senate. Few people have actually seen it. In fact even republican Chuck Grassley from iowa has complained he doesnt know whats in it. Earlier this week, President Trump called the house version mean. Then for Solano County, youre under an excessive heat watch, so thats where you really need to take it easy. One place where you will have some nice and mild weather, out enjoying the as today. A lot of sunshine, well be in the mid70s at first pitch and then in the 60s later on in the game, so still nice and comfortable. As you get ready for the day looking out the window, you see all of that sunshine and the hazy conditions. The Russian Defense Ministry Says that it might have killed the top isis leader in an air strike. Russian officials posted on facebook that an air strike on may 28th killed 30 field commanders and up to 300 militants during an isis conference. Now, they are also saying that there are reports at this point, just reports, that Ibrahim Abu Bakr al baghdadi, isis leader, was also killed. There have been multiple reports of baghdadis death in the past, but those have all turned out to be false. A live look now at the santa rita jail where two of the men facing charges in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire will leave there and go to court where they may be arraigned today. The two each face 36 separate manslaughter charges, one for each person who died in last years fire.
