camera or we saw a few minutes ago on the camera in san francisco there's still some light rain and roads are still wet. as we get a closer look, coming up from gilroy, san martin and morgan hill, there's still some rain lingering in that area. we also have light showers and marin county cow have to watch out as you step out the door. we'll take a look at what to expect over the next couple days before this storm system wraps up. vianey is tracking a road closure through the santa cruz mountain. >> there is a lane blocked and the mountain area has been feeling since yesterday. i have the radar turned on on the traffic map, which is why you see the highlighted green, you can see where the moisture is. there was a lane blocked on state route 17. a tow truck was on the way to clear it out. that was causing issues on state road 9, but the speed sensors are showing good signs. especially because it's so early. a lot of people got trapped on state route 17 yesterday. taking a look at 880 in oakland, southbound and northbound, already seeing early morning traffic at this 4:30 hour. back to you. >> thank you very much. >> breaking news this morning overseas. a stunning announcement 8th. tomorrow, may plans to ask the house of commons to back her general election call. >> also happening today, hundreds of people are gathering in san francisco this morning to remember this fateful day, one of the most devastating earthquakes to ever hit california. >> the 1906 earthquake, of course, shaking san francisco to its core. now, more than 100 years later, they're still honoring the victims with an annual ceremony. pete is joining us live from san francisco as the commemoration gets under way this morning, pete. >> good morning to you, sam and kris. this marks the 111th anniversary of the 1906 earthquake. simply devastated san francisco. i want to show you where this is taking place, the ceremony that happens every year is on the corner of market and kerney. you see folks setting up. the ceremony will take place at 5:12 a.m., that's when the devastating earthquake struck the area in 1906. the reason it's here is this was the meeting place for many people, many of the survivors in the aftermath of the earthquake. today, they honor the survivors as well as those whose lives were lost during that earthquake. we'll show you video of past ceremonies where sursivers shared story about the fateful day. the last survivor passed away in january of last year, so this is the second ceremony in a row where we won't have any survivors spiking. as far as speakers today go, we know san francisco mayor ed lee will be here, the police chief will also be in attendance as well as the fire chief. they're also joined by former san francisco mayor willie brown. i'm showing you more video of the past ceremonies. we want to take you back here live as we see folks starting to show up as the ceremony will take place at roughly fife:12 a.m. we're live in san francisco. pete prince. wildlife officers think a mountain lion opened this home about five miles east of town yesterday morning. vicky and her daughter say they often leave their back door open for fresh air and so that the dogs can come and go. as they slept, one of their two dogs, a 15-pound dog started barking viciously. then, silence. vicky says she got up and took a closer look at what she thought was her other dog going outside. >> as it walked down our path, i thought, that looks a lot like a lion. >> the family saw large paw prints on the floor and the state wildlife warden found blood on the bedroom door. there has been no signs of lenoir. >> awfully scary. >> 4:35. happening later, the sentencing of three so-called drifters districted of a murder of a canadian tourist. they're facing 100 years in prison. lila could be spending 50 years behind bars, and shaun engled struck a plea deal and testified against the other two. he'll receive 15 years in prison. those murders happened in october of 2015. >> a disturbing crime on a bay area trail is putting more police on patrol. a jogger said a man tried to rape her when she was on the sonoma overlook trail this easter sunday. someone posted a homemade warning where investigators say the 24-year-old victim fault off that attacker. she told them he pushed her, hit her, and tried to sexually assault her. now hikers say they're thinking twice about using the popular trail. >> it's really scary because i do go up there often. it's now i'm like, um, do i really want to go up there by myself, even not by myself, you never know what you can find. >> that suspect is described as a 50-year-old white man with a bushy beard. it's white also. he could be homeless. >> coming up right now on 4:37 on your tuesday morning, an important sit-downen asia today for vice president mike pence. he's putting japan on notice. he hopes the talks are productive. why the meeting could bolster the u.s. economy. >> and not a completely warm reception for california senator dianne feinstein at her largest town hall to date. look where her supporters think she's falling short in washington. vice president mike pence is in tokyo right american fracture. >> protesters expected to gather outside dianne feinstein's office in san francisco. this time, it's to urge the senator to fight against the tax on wild life reform and civil rights. all of this coming after feinstein got an earful at a town hall in san francisco yesterday. >> stand up! >> about 1,000 people there. audience members spend the majority of the town hall meeting with the senior senator shouting at her. feinstein was applauded for saying she would vote for a bill to ban untraceable and unlimited political contributions, then she got booed when she said she could not support single-payer health care in the country if it meant more government control. the loudest calls were for the longtime senator to show more force in opposing president trump. >> you want me to speak, you're going to have to let me speak. you're asking an individual senator to do something that may be very difficult to do. >> this is just the first stop. senator feinstein is holding another town hall thursday in los angeles. >> today in oakland, hundreds of people are expected to rally at city hall over a controversial resolution that would create sanctuary work places for immigrant workers. it is expected to pass. emeryville passed a similar resolution just earlier this month. >> we are expecting more rain in the forecast. does that sound familiar? been like this right now on your tuesday morning. governor brown's proposed 12 cent gas tax hike, part of his transportation package, getting closer to reality right now. yesterday, state senators approved nearly a billion dollarsf worth of road and train projects. specifically where that money is going to go. the governor's transportation bill is expected to raise about $5 billion per year for road and other transportation projects. one of those projects was approved yesterday. an ace commuter train expansion between the bay area and the central valley. that was made to swing the vote to sweeten the pot, if you will, of republican state senator anthony cannella out of parts of the central valley there. the plan involves extending the ace line from stockton to merced. the state assembly must still approve the bill. >> time for weather and traffic. if you have been out and about, you probably know that everybody is talking about the weather and the rain and what not. we thought maybe it would taper off, but no. >> off and on. one minute you think it's all right. you step outside to take a long walk with the dog and before you know it, it's pouring down rain on you. >> i ran for 2 1/2 hours yesterday in san francisco. training for a marathon. it started as soon as i stepped outdoor and didn't stop when i finished. >> a deliberate test of your endurance. he's dedicated because for me, i would have gone right back on in the house. >> right. >> that's the kind of weather we're going to see. off and on at times. some showers moving through. you see that right now in san francisco. they have been getting the brunt of this rain moving in. but then in san jose, it barely rained at all yesterday. at times, we had sunshine coming through. so a very sloppy drive across the golden gate bridge, and temperatures are cooler than yesterday at this time, now at 54 degrees. it's 56 degrees in oakland. 55 in san jose. and napa this morning at 54 degrees. going to see those high temperatures reaching into the low 70s today. so a little warmer than yesterday. and maybe even a few more breaks from the downpours. 68 degrees in danville and in walnut creek, 69 degrees while san mateo will see a high of 65. the embarcadero up to 62, and mid 60s, upper 60s as well for parts of the north bay. looking at the radar, a lot of the heavier rain we had earlier this morning moving on off towards the east, but we still have the wet roads and it will be the kind of day as you try to figure out how to dress, a hat and long sleeves. even thowe will have clearing as we go through the day, we will also see times of rain. as we go hour by hour, we still see some of the spotty showers moving through. at 11:00, all cloudy, and then a little bit of light rain here and there. but going to be that spotty activity. although most of the bay area will be dry, there will be some areas still seeing rain, and then early tomorrow morning, we get clearing, but then another round of showers will be coming in late tomorrow night into early thursday morning. this will also be a quick one and done. so getting a look at that seven-day forecast. expect the highs to reach into the low 60s today in san francisco. a few spotty showers as well tomorrow. once again, that will be during the evening, and moving out on thursday morning. then we get some dry and warmer weather in time for the weekend and early next week. check out this weekend. highs in the upper 70s for sunday. and vianey, you have been tracking several issues out there already on the roadways. >> yeah, and one of them, as always, for when it's raining, unfortunately, is the santa cruz area. it does look like that 17 is still seeing some backup out there, and it is because of an earlier crash. we have some stop and go traffic just near summit road. you can actually see the speed sensors picking that up where you see that highlighted orange. all in all, the speed sensors are showing a pretty good view across the board, but you know what else is showing some slowing. our new waze app, and our nbc bay area wazers are showing slowing near oakland along 580 right near this route where you see that turning red, going at 24 miles per hour. if you're looking for alternate routes, it's easy to set a start point and you set your end point there, and it gives you alternate routes. they pop up fairly quickly. it of america's high scaled immigrant visa program. the visa program allows high-tech companies to hire skilled applicants from other countries. the executive order won't immediately take effect but it will likely lead to changes after a thur ereview. president trump leave believes the program undercuts american workers by bringing in cheaper labor from somewhere else. >> charities are supposed to help out veterans accused of stealing cash, though, now. the reason california's attorney general wants the wounded warriors support group to shut down. >> first, happening right now, the country of turkey remains under a state of emergency. the council of minister there decided to extend it another three months after a failed coup last year. the state of emergency involves greater security this wet tuesday in 2 1/2 minutes. a massachusetts man accused of 4:54 right now. happening today, a massachusetts man accused of killing a former google employee will be arraigned later today. he's facing murder and attempted rape charges in the murder of vanessa mar caught, out for a jog near her mom's home about 50 miles west of boston. this happened last august. >> new this morning, the supreme court blocked arkansas's first inmate execution in 12 years from happening at midnight last night. he was one of eight to be executed before the end of this month. arkansas was on the time deadline because their supply of execution drugs is expiring. a spokesman for the arkansas governor says that the supreme court's decision did not serve justice to the victim. >> there's been a lot of talk about inmates. i would encourage you to remember the victims throughout this process and their families who have had to go through this nights mare for 20, 25, 30 years. and tonight, the justice they were hoping to get, they will once again not. >> with this, the scheduled execution for two more inmates is also now in jeopardy. but five executions are currently not facing any legal road blocks. california is suing two charities that support veterans accusing them of taking money and spending it on places like shopping sprees at places like victoria's secret. xavier becerra filed that suit against the wounded warriors and another group. the suit alleged that operated ran raffles to raise money but used the money for personal travel, dining, and shopping. becerra wants both charities to be terminated. >> great resort casino is looking to expand again by adding another 200-room hotel. there's a public hearing on that proposed expansion tonight at the stony point christian fellowship. the new wing will be built on an existing parking lot and would employ about 150 people. the casino added a 200-room motel last september. >> today is the tax deadline. if you're going to and drizzling everywhere in the bay area. you have wet roads, even though for the most part the rain has stopped falling, and as we get a live look outside at san jose, the roads are wet, the cloudy skies still overhead, and temperatures are mild. as we go through today, the temperature trends shows we'll be in the upper 50 at 10:00, and then at times, some rain falling. cloudy skies, sun peeking out, and then the rain starts to fall again. another one of those days. be prepared for it all. as we head through the forecast, going to see clearing, and we'll talk about the timeline for that.
