Chp officers and firefighters being hailed heroes this morning for jumping in and saving the life of a fellow officer involved in a fiery overnight crash in the trivalley. Bob redell live in livermore with the details on the wreck. One of the reporters live on the scene out there, bob. Good morning to you. That officer was with the San Jose Police department and in the past two hours was able to walk out of the hospital on his own after a very serious accident that took place behind me on eastbound highway 84 in livermore. Considering the circumstances, he is a very lucky to be alive. Just a little after midnight last night, this Police Officer was driving in his personal suv, heading home, eastbound highway 84, when he rear ended a big rig here new ruby hill. It just so happened this was in a Construction Zone. The car that he was in, the suv, caught fire. And he became trapped in that vehicle. It just so happens there were two chp officers nearby working that Construction Zone. One of them used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire while the other called the Fire Department to finally have the officer removed from the wreckage. He was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where San Jose Police supervisor was dispatched to assist and show support for his colleague. And again, that San Jose Police officer, while hurt, was able to walk out on his own out of that emergency room around 4 10 this morning. Reporting live in livermore, bob redell, today in the bay. German authorities investigating a bus bombing that hurt a Soccer Player and ended up cancelling a Champions League match. The soccer club was posed to play monyesterday when a series of explosions, three of them, struck their bus. One player was injured, but his injuries are not considered life threatening. And a quick look at the san mateo bridge, getting across the bridge itself, very slow, but you saw the flashing lights over there, midspan, they were heading toward a disabled big rig and hopefully they can clear that. We will have this storm system churning up the coast and bringing in some rain later on this evening. We wont see rain all day, but it will be cloudy. A little sunshine, and then we start to see that rain moving into San Francisco and right over at t park in time for the first pitch at 7 15. As we throughout the game, it will be raining. You want to make sure you have the rain gear as you sit out there and enjoy the game. It will be windy, cool, and also very wet. We will start out the day with some light showers at 8 00. Doctors say he may nee skin graphs and recovery could be at least six months. What an ordeal. Nbc bay area responds to a nevada woman who says her new floor didnt look so new. Just six months after it was installed. She turned to us for help. Chris is joining us for her story. Thee years ago, the woman paid Lumber Liquidators 5100 for a new kitchen, dining room, and living room floors with installation. But she says just six months later, she noticed discoloring. She reached out to lumber liq d liquidators asking its to honor its warranty, beutshe said the company said no. It blamed the staining on other site and environmental conditions like extreme heat or improperly mant fnls. Which arent covered under the warranty. She disagreed. Lumber liquidators suggested she use a mr. Clean magic eraser on the stain. She says she tried that but it didnt work. She said thee then noticed another problem. There was bubbling between the planks. Its right there in that picture on the righthand side, a little right there. If you look closely, youll it. She said she asked Lumber Liquidators to fix that too and the company said no again. Insisting nothing was wrong with the product it had installed. So she shared her story with us. We contacted Lumber Liquidators and it repeated its stance. Nothing is wrong with the product. The staining and bubbling were caused by surface moisture, like using water to clean the floors. Now, thats not covered under the warranty. And she did share with Lumber Liquidators she did use water to clean the floors. Ultimately, the back and forth did stop. The company agreed to refund her the cost of the floors, 2700. In a statement, Lumber Liquidators told us its decision is based on the fact its communication could have been better and it wanted to make the situation right. Im going to say theyre making progress over there getting across the span itself, these travel times have been about 15 to 20minute delays. Lets look at the bay brich approach. Were getting reports that police shot and killed a man who they say was suicidal and killed his two daughters, ages 8 and 11. We passed by the element in east oakland where you had parents preparing for this protest. They dont want to see any more cuts to the district. The city has cut Discretionary Spending and put in place a hiring freeze at the start of the year. Theyre low on School Supplies and even paper towels. But last month, the district anoujsed it wasnt enough to help decrease the deficit as much as they hoped. With a parent of a fourth grader at a local Elementary School in oakland who said enough is enough and the cuts are already affecting the student body. When my student is in a classroom where his classmates arent getting the support they need, then it just affects the entire class. So weve got kids who are at different learning levels. They need extra help. Thats why we have intervention teachers. Now, the parents will do more than just protest here in downtown oakland this afternoon. We now know more about the inmate died at a milpitas jail. Patrick mehsud was a disbarred lawyer serving time for an armed standoff with San Francisco police last year. Investigators believe he jumped to his death from the second floor of the jail. This morning, Santa Rosa Police asking for help identifying several gunmen. The shooting happened yesterday. Police received several calls reporting gunshots on olive street. About 4 25 in the afternoon. Once officers arrived, they found a parked car with bullet holes. No shooter or victims. Those words, those vows being taken quite literally for a bay area newlyweds who are now opening up about how they were infected by a braineating parasite in hawaii right after getting married. Ben and eliza traveled to maui in january for their honeymoon. While they were there, they contracted rat lung worm disease, triggered by parasitic worms that when ingested can invade the human brain. Its scheduled to omen next summer but theyre setting aside about 13 million in funding. Despite the end of the drought, some water customers in the north bay be getting a break. Sonoma county water agency issing its water rates. Some of the rate hikes already factored into current rates due to drought and conservation efforts.
