>> temperatures across the valley turning a little bit warmer as we head into the afternoon. our temperatures right now though not warm at all. upper 50s and drizzle along the coast. san francisco, highs today around the tri-valley. mid to upper 80s. 82 in san jose. low 60s in san francisco. the tri-valley the warm spot today and also the slow spot for your morning commute. >> i did see earlier slowing on the sensors. it's dark so our maps are lit up by green. going to zoom in to where there was slowing and might be gone already as you're approaching vasco road. there was debris reported westbound 580. looks like that has cleared. watch for the next few minutes. there may vab traffic break. live look over here. there are no problems once you approach that dublin interchange. clear flow there. we continue with our breaking news out of italy this morning. as you see some reporters out there gathering the latest information. that's where a deadly earthquake has left parts of several towns in ruins. the earthquake struck early this morning about 100 miles northeast of rome. this is what's left of one building situated in a local town that was devastated by the earthquake. there are reports of people still trapped in the rubble of structures. some of which are hundreds of years old. many were sleeping when the earthquake struck. frantic efforts are under way to rescue those victims. kris sanchez is monitoring that situation from our newsroom. she will have an update at the top of the hour. breaking news this daly city. a man was injured in an overnight shooting. it had not far from john daly boulevard in mission street and the daly city b.a.r.t. station. pete suratos is at the scene. what are you learning about what happened? >> reporter: that shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. at a dead end street here in daly city city. in the distance it may be hard to make out but this area is still taped off, at least on the top of the hill at this dead end street. we did speak to daly city police and they got that call around 12:30 a.m. about a man who had listen shot in this area. now, when they arrived they found a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the stomach area. he was rushed to sf general for surgery and we're still waiting to get an update on that victim's condition and we still don't know at this time if this shooting was targeted. now, no arrests have been made according to daly city police. if you have any information contact daly city pd. live in dality city pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thank you for the latest there, pete. at 4:33. gut wrenching story out of the north bay. two sisters 4-year-old haley and 7-year-old caitlyn marcus drowned as their mother's truck plunges into the russian river. the girls were in the backseat where their mother sara behind the wheel. they were heading off to school yesterday when somehow the truck spun out of control and landed in the river. the mother survived the crash. the families from the small town of jenner. san jose police officer behind bars this morning accuse of providing information to street gangs. officer derek antonio is charged with five felony counts of unauthorized computer access among other charges. it follows a five-month-long investigation into a vietnamese street gang. officer antonio has been on administrative leave while the department conducted an internal investigation. san jose police will hold a news conference on their investigation later today. oakland police are hoping that somebody recognizes the people or the car seen in these surveillance videos or photos. police believe one of the people seen here is the suspect in the shooting death of a musician. emilio was shot and killed outside the golden gold bar in april. mercedes bensz silver s series. $35,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest. 4:34. san francisco shoe shine worker is in critical condition after a cab jumps a curb and crashes into his stand. another shoe shine employee was also injured. the crash happened yesterday right by market where samson and sutter streets meet. there were no passengers in the cab at the time. it's not clear why the cab driver jumped the curb. the driver was also taken to a hospital. no word right now on his condition. 4:35. another robbery at san francisco's twin peaks. police say two tourists were robbed at gun point monday night after 10:00. the vick tips say the suspects took their backpacks with two tablet camera and cash. both suspects ran off after that robbery. fire crews rush in to battle flames in the chimney fire yesterday but they weren't able to save a number of homes and structures. the fire burning in the san luis obispo area has destroyed 45 homes. it started two weeks ago. scorched nearly 40,000 acres and it's only 35% contained. in an eerie coincidence today also mark two years since the crippling napa earthquake. 6.0 quake that damaged more than 600 structures combined rebuilding costs exceeded a billion dollars. most of napa at this point is obviously back up and running. one building that suffered historic damage is not expected to be full any functional again until at least the summer of 2018. happening today, vta and b.a.r.t. officials are going to brief u.s. transportation leaders on the transit agency's long-term expansion into the south bay. u.s. transportation secretary anthony foxx is going to survey the nearly completed first phase of b.a.r.t.'s expansion extending from fremont into berryessa. that phase is expected to be up and running as soon as next year. then phase two will eventually extend b.a.r.t. into san jose. it's 4:36. coming up investigative unit exclusive. what some injured workers say it's hard to get their medical care after getting hurt on the job. plus -- >> the morning again starting off with a little bit of low cloud cover in san jose. 60 right now as warming into the agencys in the evergreen school district later on today. more for the warming trend mid week coming up in our forecast. and those low clouds not low enough to touch the high rise here at the san mateo bridge. moves well across the bay. we'll talk about something going on for the south bay coming up. plus the emergency plan to get more police officers patrolling the streets of san jose. what measure the city wants to make happen, next. you're watching "today in the bay." get medical care. our investigative unit is looking at the workers' comp system that patients say unfairly denies treatment. tonight at 11:00 we'll show you what happens when people try to appeal those treatment denials. state data reviewed by the investigative unit shows in the vast majority of cases reviewers agree injured workers don't need the medical treatments their doctors request. the system say it proves the process is working. critics say it's one sided. >> i do think they have to be challenged if there are failures and certainly i think it has to be considered a failure of the city leaders have come up with an emergency proposal to put more police officers in patrol cars. that plan would give the police chief emergency powers that would allow the department to find a way around state law to make staffing changes. specifically we're talking about the ability to shift supervisors and detectives out on to the streets. the city council is looking to vote on that emergency proposal next tuesday. in the meantime coming up next, florida has its first nontravel case of zika outside the miami area. the state's governor is not declaring that area though a transmission zone. plus hillary clinton waking up in the bay area today. we'll tell you why she is where she's headed later for the release of more e-mails this fall. criticism continuing to swirl over those clinton town. and it's the usual game plan. quick visit for some big money. the democratic candidate attended an event yesterday in piedmont. then this afternoon mrs. clinton is going to be at luncheon in redwood city. tickets range from $1,000 to $27,000. then tonight the headliner is going to be in los ats to hills at a dinner cohosted by apple ceo tim cook. all of her visits are private and closed to the media. donald trump hopes to erase clinton's lead in florida. he will be in the must win state today. he is doubling down on his call for a special prosecutor to investigate hillary clinton's e-mails. the clinton campaign is bracing for the release of nearly 15,000 additional e-mails this fall. in the meantime a new "associated press" analysis shows more than half the non-government people hillary clinton met with while secretary of state were also donors to the clinton foundation. new concerns over the zika outbreak in florida this morning. now health officials think it may have spread to hundreds of miles from miami to the tampa area. governor rick scott announced a person contracted the virus without traveling out of the country and without being in the miami area. now state officials are working to find out how this person contracted the disease. governor scott says there are now 42 cases of non-travel related zika in the state including this latest person. scott also says there is not enough evidence to declare the tampa area a new zone for transmission. laura, a choking hazard prompted a recall of about 91,000 building play sets for babies. the recall involves three alex jr. branded sets of infant building toys. 22 reports so far of the ends of small parts detaching and posing a choking hazard to children. fortunately no injuries have been reported. the
