>> a warm day. but overall we are enjoying some great weather for the bay weather that's belt comfortable during the afternoon. as you head out we are looking at all of our microclimates. 58 in the east bay and 50 in the north bay. nice and cool there with highs reaching 82 degrees. a little bit warmer yesterday. 83 in the south bay and 75 in the east bay. we'll talk about a hot weekend ahead. comthat'sg up. mike has an alert for the drivers on the nimitz freeway. >> the only thing going on on the freeways that might slow you down will be the construction but over here in oak bland another issue. we have midday games to talk about at the oakland coliseum at midday. off of the freeway, visible flashing lights just between 23rd and 5th the closest exits. the freeway goes right past. that will be the breaking news with the oakland police. we are going to stay in oakla oakland, mike, following breaking news. intense police activity near east 12th street and 15th avenue. the only information we have is officers are dealing with, quote, a critical incident. the call came in about 3:50 this morning. we are working to find out more information. damien is heading to the scene. more breaking news now. fire sweeps through several store rarnage units in alameda. >> bob redell is there live. bob, we understand damages could be in the tens of thousands of dollars. >> reporter: it's too early to tell but, yes, significant damage where on singleton avenue on the island of alameda at the all-safe storage fa safety. around midnight when the city of alameda fire department arrived, they found several units, namely these right here, on fire. we count at least six, possibly seven units destroyed. they also saw smoke pouring out from an additional ten units. the fire department sprayed water and foam and cut holes in the doors of the other units to give the smoke a chance to escape. total of 25 units that sustained heavy smoke damage. what made fighting this a challenge is some of the units were packed floor to ceiling with boxes and other personal items making it difficult to access the fire. no one was hurt and they are still trying to determine the cause. again, a fire around midnight destroying several units here at the all-safe storage on alameda. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks for the latest, bob. 4:33. it is day three of the republican national convention in cleveland. last night california delegates helped put donald trump over the top in officially secure the gop's nomination for president. >> 172, trump. >> donald trump actually sealed up the nomination that includes all 172 delegates from the golden state. first day of the republican national convention, quote ur surreal and accused the gop of only to us canning on america's division, not offering any solutions. clinton is holding fund-raisers in boston and brooklyn today. a former gilroy teacher is accuse of luring teenage boys into sending him explicit pictures. now he's expected to enter a plea in court today. douglas le is charge with 20 sex crimes against nine different boys. he allegedly posed as a girl online and tricked the boys into sending him nude pictures and videos. some of the victims are his former students at gilroy high school where he was a science teacher. let's check in with kari once again with a look at the forecast. >> warmer tomorrows as with head into the weekend. i'll have a look at that microclimate forecast coming up. clearview of the bay bridge shows a smooth flowing traffic as well. that's why we can see the flashing lights over the nimitz freeway. plus, an east bay family in fear after a bizarre kidnapping scheme. we'll show you how this played out and the warning that police are issuing. ma-seerunng th sueilnceide . morgan hill police are hoping you recognize this man seen running in this surveillance video. police believe that man shot nine rounds into multiple parked cars at monterrey and third streets on saturday night. it's in downtown morgan hill. no one was hurt was the cars that were shot were damaged. there's a kidnapping scam warning this morning. >> a union city woman who did not want to be identified says someone called her claiming to have her daughter and threatening to kill her daughter if she told anyone and didn't pay up. in the meantime, that woman's daughter received a call claiming that her mother was kidnapped. the mother asked her co-workers to call police while she tried to wire the money to mexico, which is what the callers wanted her to do. but before she could complete that transaction union city police were able to find the daughter and the mother. >> and they said we have your daughter, we have her. right before i gave him the transaction money. >> scary. police say they cannot trace the call because the number that was used was fake. so police say if this happens to you, ask to speak to the person kidnapped and try to contact your family members to make sure that you're not being scammed. a large marijuana bust now on mt. hamilton. these are some of the 4700 plants for the san jose sheriff's deputies confiscated along with pvc piping and other grow materials. this brings the number of raids this summer by santa clara sheriff's deputies to five. they say that $33 million of pot has been kept off the streets as a result. most recent raid last friday sheriffs arrested a suspect and confiscated an assault rifle. >> it's a safety issue for the people that walk through that property. we've seen in state property, county property, uc santa cruz property and they own large acre where suspects are going on their property and making the marijuana grows. >> in addition to the criminality, environmental damage is bad including pollution from all that fertilizer that the growers are using and the water they're stealing to feed the thirsty plants. 4:42. coming up, you'll see lots of kaiser nurses picketing. haveued eeninstd osann beaches and seaside on the monterrey coast this past week have turned green. instead of sand and surf, beachgoers are finding tons of seaweed, tons of it. one beach there is called sand city. now it's more like salad city. funny enough, experts had this particular kind of seaweed is edible. maybe you can get sushi. the seaweed is expected to wash away but it could take a week or more. >> that is really a lot out there. that's kind of gross though because when you're out there you're walking in it there's flies all over it. kind of duoesn't smell -- >> probably squishy to your feet. temperatures are going up. >> it will be a great beach weekend weatherwise because inland areas really be heating up. you will be looking for a place to go cool off. a live look outside now for san jose. it is mostly clear and a nice start, too, this wednesday morning. we will continue on with mostly clear skies here but clouds near the coast will be clearing out as we go through the day. now, it's 54 degrees in palo alto. it's 58 degrees in oakland and napa, 53 degrees. 56 in livermore. and a look at today's highs and where we're headed. up to 65 degrees again in san francisco. half-moon bay up to 68 degrees and 75 in oakland. meantime, we'll start to see more 80s on the map here from the north bay in santa rosa, 82 to 83 degrees in san jose and some mid to upper 80s for the valleys. over towards fairfield to 87 degrees. so our winds are changing directions and that's also helping to give us some slightly warmer temperatures. now coming in from the south even through most of the morning we'll have a light southerly wind. and then it gradually starts to shift more towards the southwest and that will provide a little bit of some relief through the coastal areas. keeping the temperatures down there. so as we go through the day in san francisco, a few clouds and some fog to start. and then it turns mostly sunny and breezy with highs there reaching into the low to mid 60s. in oakland in the mid 70s, mostly sunny skies throughout the rest of the day. at 8:00 we'll be at 61 degrees. over the next seven days this is when we will start to see those temperatures really going up. in san francisco, it will be in the mid 60s, up to 69 degrees on saturday. still not bad, 73 degrees on sunday around then as we compare that to inland areas low to mid 80s. up to 8. degrees on friday. 92 on saturday. and the valley heat continues into sunday and early next week with highs in the mid to upper 90s. wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of 100 degree readings on the map. we'll talk about that. now, mike's tracking the overnight road work. >> that's right, kari. looking over here. not much else going on besides that. we do have a little slowing on the dumbarton bridge. then i'll show you an issue over towards the san mateo bridge in a second but i want to make sure we see all of our bridges moving well. no problems across the carquinez, richmond, san rafael bridge. over on the left approach we have a couple of cash lanes not yet open. two lanes here. these lanes that have the backup are ready for cash. san mateo bridge, traffic flows smoothly. on the eastbound direction we have flashing lights and right here, a couple of lanes still blocked as we head over towards the hayward side. dead bat rays are washing ashore and no one knows why. a woman walking along the shore when she noticed a dozen dead rays. marine experts say large amounts of the animals die off and sharks have periodically been reported from san francisco bay. one theory is low oxygen and high salt content may have combined to lead to the dieoff. >> everything is kind of a theory until it's actually looked into is the way i look at it. so oxygen levels, do i think it is? it's a possible. possibly maybe something in the water? that's also a huge possibility. >> experts add that 12 dead rays is a pretty large number. kaiser nurses locked in a contract dispute are going to air their frustrations outside of several different hospitals today. no strike is planned. all of the hospitals will be fully staffed. but nurses plan to picket outside of four bay area facilities for a short time this afternoon. nurses say that kaiser is not meeting the staffing levels they agreed to in a deal that was reached two years ago. kaiser disagrees saying 3,000 nurses have been added nationwide over that timespan. facebook is planning to expand campus but the city of menlo park has to approve it. council members debated proposal last night to build office space and hotel near the headquarters. it's long state route 84 at the foot of the dumbarton bridge. you know it's clogged with traffic nur commute hours. facebook is pledging millions to tack the traffic troubles as well as to build affordable housing. will driverless cars be a part of the future? the symposium continues in san francisco. mark, the administrator of the highway traffic and safety administration. google is just one of the many companies experimenting with self-driving cars. back to school 18559. nasdaq to 5036. second busiest shopping season of the year is upon us. the average house healed plans to spend $488 on back to school items but those who started shopping before july there spend nearly $700. and those consumers tend to buy higher priced ticket prices early so their kids have time to use them. 3% is slowest growth since 2012. macy's is testing a mobile tool that uses artificial intelligence that let's shoppers get answers about the store that they're in such as where items are locate and there are questions they would normally ask a sales associate. it was swimmers and surfers in southern california want to know when they can get back in the water after a massive sewage spill that's closed wide stretch of coastline. beaches between long beach and seal beach have been closed since monday. that's when a broken pipe started sending raw sewage into the los angeles river. which then found its way into the ocean. so far, more than 2 million sgal lons of sewage has been spilled. it's apparently leaving a big stench along the area as well. health experts will test the waters again today to figure out if it's safe to reopen closed coastline. coming up, already leaving flowers on his star i long the hollywood walk of fame. garry marshall was only 81 years old. shifting gears. when it comes to pokemon go just about anything you hear these days you say might be hard to believe. the whole thing is hard to believe. that would have to include the expected turnout tonight for a first of its kind crawl. >> so organizers are using social media to plan a
