When fans enter the park, they may notice something a little bit different. You are looking live now at the new protective netting. The purpose there is to keep foul balls and broken bats away from fans in the stands. Now, all that netting is redesigned and extend to the home plate edge of each dugout. The height is now 25 feet instead of 20 and thanks to new technology, several support poles were removed, which actually means there is less blocking the view for fans. Giants president larry beard tells us fan safety is a huge priority. Were a big opportunity for families to bring their little ones and a lot of kids in their onesies who are months old and when a ball comes shooting back at you and you have those little ones, that could be dangerous. So, we think the netting is going to be a protective shield for people and also not really be intrusive at all in terms of the viewing. A day yesterday in which we had temperatures that were approaching or hitting 90 degrees. Doesnt exactly feel that way right now. No, felt like summer yesterday. Today is a cool start to our morning. Lets check in with meteorologist anthony slaughter live near willie mays plaza. Good morning. Looking at clear skies for the most part. And you said it, the big story is those temperatures. Not as hot as it was yesterday. And that is some great news because definitely dont want to be out in the ball game with 80s and 90s and all that sun. Definitely would need some sunscreen and not talking about the high temperatures. Look at the temperatures were expecting today. 73 in san mateo and even pacifica and seeing temperatures in the 90s. San francisco mid60s late on this afternoon and across the north bay, east and the trivalley. We are expecting temperatures cooler, more tolerable, still above average, though. In the mid to upper 70s. Now, weve seen folks coming in this morning and the sun starting to come up and the town is really starting to get abuzz as folks are getting ready to head into the stadium. Sun coming up and weve got the stage set for a great day here at at t park. Lets toss things over to mike right now and see that morning commute shaping up. A great day. Home opener and we have San Francisco by the way by the 280 extension. Going to be crowded. Right now traffic moves very well. A slow drive across the span for the bridge westbound we had a stall around Treasure Island and recovering now and the metering lights are also on and look the rest of the bay, very easy drive. You saw the giants playing and the as up there, as well. Warriors played tonight and tonight the sharks are off to playing in the south bay. Those are all things to watch for. Right now not much as far as the traffic flow goes. Crash in fremont. Tesla southbound 880 moves well past the scene of the crash and over here towards tesla. Back to you. Mike, thank you very much. Little ballpark gardening going on right now. Wait for it. Something that fans wont argue with right now new food and options that ballpark. There are plenty of them. Where are you now, kris . Im out here at the concession level just beyond the outfield and i tell you, if you are purest like me you get a hot dog, a beer and some peanuts. But so much more here at at t. New this year a porcini doughnut with cheese on top. Sounds delicious. I think ill give it a try. Definitely goes against my purest values. fried brusal sprouts and we went inside one of the pizzerias here. Were talking about slice house. They are offering up some flatpizzas made from one of their ovens that was brought over from italy. This is a really big deal. A lot of pizzas being made there. We talked to the owner on what it is like to be on the other side of the counter. The amount of pizzas we produce here is insane. Especially in a short amount of time. Thats why when you go through our spot, youll see triple stacked brick ovens in there. Three brick ovens on top of each other and just banging out pizza after pizza. Theyre starting to wake up because i think somebody is starting to cook something in the distance. I smell something. By the way, half of the fun of adventurous eating is, of course, taking pictures of your food and posting them on social media. The San Francisco giants are very connected. 16 Different Social Media outlets. They have 1600 wifi spots here within the stadium so you will be able to take that porcini doughnut and make your friends jealous all across the mlb. Sam and laura. There you go. Instagram and tweet until your heart is content. By the way, kind of looked like a flat bread pizza more so than a doughnut. Look whos getting critical now. We will sample it and find out. Coming up, we talked about food at the ballpark and a new brew in town and really fits the team like a glove. Just like a glove. Plus, three championships in five years. Chalk it up to an even year magic. But does buster posy buy in . Hear what he has to say, coming up next. We already know buster. But here are some of the stats you wont find on the back of his baseball card. Back in college posy played every single position in one game and also considered a pediatrician, career in baseball didnt work out. Going to be a doctor. He finished high school with the fourth highest gpa in his class. Smarty pants. Widely known as the best actor on the team. He shared a look. An expression that works with every tiype of emotion. Happy, embarrassed, shocked. Its really catching on in the clubhouse. But theres only one original. Never duplicated. I want to show you some cutting edge technology. This is a vhs tape. Push that tape in and hit play. This is a flip phone. Have you seen these before . Its called a compact disc. Oh. Looks like were getting a facsimile. What year is it to you . Its old. Youd rather use Newer Technology . Definitely. Well, ive got something to show you. This is the 2016 chevy volt. It uses extended range electric technology. The prius hybrid uses Battery Technology developed 15 years ago. Chevy expects volt drivers to get over a thousand miles between fill ups. Its got every technology there is. The prius actually belongs on the table. Welcome back. A live look at at t park this morning. As you know, the giants making a huge splash this off season. Snagging three key players theyll play right there in the middle of it all including outfielder denard span. Heres what he had to say about his hopes of winning a championship. Even if it looks good on paper, we have one of the best teams in the game, but we still have a lot of work to do. Walking around seeing everybody with these big rings on, i want one. I need one. Drafted by inminnesota twins back in 2002. Most recently with the washington nationals. Span is known for stellar defense. By the way, he also hit a home run on opening day and hes taking over duties in center field whilo giant angel pagan has split over to left field. When it comes to the giants, there is, in case you didnt notice, a pattern of success going on here. 2010 world champs, 2012 world champs i and 2014 and so on and so forth. While on paper giants are one of the most talented teams in the league, the players know nothing comes easy. We have to go play and on paper we look pretty strong and you have to stay hungry. Just because you look good and feel good, you have to want it. Deep left center field. Hes modest. Hes cautiously optimistic about this. Vegas odds have the giants among the top three teams in the sport, to not just make the playoffs, but odds of winning the world series. Now, for the giants to make a run at another championship, it appears they will have to do so without tim lincecum. For the First Time Since 2007 the giants opened the season without the name nicknamed the freak. Tim lincecum a free agent right now. Underwent arth oscopic surgery and supposed to pitch in a show case for teams back in february. While he is not a giant right now, he isnt with eeth team right now. With the giants back in town, businesses are right back there with him. The yard at mission rock is opening for its second year with burgers and more beer. The popup village made up a repurpose shipping container. Kind of cool to see. Focus on sparking new activity in the new mission bay neighborhood. One of this years new comer is bill compo. The ballpark and hot dogs and hamburgers. What is great about this partnership and were bringing a different type of and the San Francisco is just a city that loves those values. You can find the yard on part of the giants parking lot, a, its open from 11 00 in the morning until 9 00 at night seven days a week. We mentioned beer in the yard and this year there is a new brew in the mix, as well. Probably because its orange. Quite literally orange. Theyed up to create the giants orange splash lager. Brewed using all natural techniques to give it a nice, orange hue. We brewed it with orange peels and orange juice in the brew, you can taste the oran orangeness in a nice, refreshing lager beer. While its available at the ballpark, also available in Stores Across Northern California and nevada. This marks the first collaboration between a Brewing Company and any Major League Baseball team ever. I love it. Kind of cant wait to try it, right . I think today might be the day. Little early in the day. The sun hasnt come up just yet. Lets check in with meteorologistany slaughter he is live outside of at t park this morning with a look at the forecast for this big game day, anthony. A big game day and a gorgeous start to the day. Lets talk about the forecast this morning and get you into the game day forecast. Here it is, first pitch 1 35. 68 degrees is what were expecting. The thing youll notice about today its cooler and more clouds, especially once we hit the afternoon and evenings. Well be mostly cloudy by this evening. 65 in pacifica and mid60s across the rest of San Francisco and across the north bay, the east bay and the trivalley were expecting temperatures much more comferrable and tolerable today. Midlife 70s and Room Temperature expected there. Now, in the course of the next couple of days, well undergo some changes and this cooling trend is because our winds have shifted around an area of low pressure and a disturbance working its way up the coastline and come in from so cal. Once we beat them, well send the rain back to southern california. Overall, friday does look like the day to watch for showers in the forecast. Well clear out saturday morning, but expecting to stay cool in the course of the weekend across the entire bay area from San Francisco from the north bay and the south bay. The temperatures will stay cool in that sevenday forecast even into next week and another chance of rain next week and well stay on the cooling trend over the next couple of days. Again, a beautiful sunrise back here live and all the sights and sounds and the signals are going and we have construction crews heading up fun things out here. Well continue to check back in out here and lets toss things back to mike and see how the morning commute is shaping up. The shots behind you are still great and i would think it is fake. Just like behind me, 100 real. A smooth drive through the south bay and light build around the bay. Tip slow spots and south bay and east bay and no surprises here. Look, the sharks are playing tonight and we also have the as and warriors playing tonight. Expect some traffic over here midday and over here in San Francisco, of course, were at at t park all morn because of this home opener all day. The Winnipeg Jets are taking on the sharks in the south bay. Right back to sam and laura live at at t park in just a minute. Virgin American Airlines isnt gone just yet but scott mcgrew joins us to explain there already are plans to bring it back anyway. Thats right. Virgin america was sold to alaska airlines, kira, over the next year or so, we do expect alaska will end the lease on those cool virgin planes and absorb the staff into alaska airlines. Virgin america was our Hometown Airline and a big supporter flying the world series trophy around painted a beard on the front of one of their planes. The founder of the virgin brand, richard branson, told travel magazine hed consider starting a new airline within the United States with the virgin brand. The article came out as named Virgin America as the best airline in the United States. Bl branson was a minority owner. American law says foreigners cant control the domestic airline. All those stories that laura just mentioned. We went to send it back to kira klapper. Good morning, sam and laura. Good morning to you. San francisco controversial city policy is up for discussion today. For more on that, we go live to Chuck Coppola and this issue has gained nationwide attention. Absolutely. Good morning, kira. A beautiful city behind me and also a sanctuary city. Which means it does not cooperate with the feds when it comes to matters of immigration. Specifically this legislation is pending todays back to an incident that happened last year. Thats when a man named Juan Francisco lopez was wanted for deportation by the feds was released from a San Francisco jail. He reportedly found a gun at pier 14, picked it up, fired it and it killed kate steinle. Now the matter is that the sheriff at that time did not notify the feds that he was releasing lopez sanchez. That sheriff subsequently lost reelection. The new sheriff Vicki Hennessey wants to notify the feds. She wants to make it a policy to do so, but the supervisor in San Francisco named john avalos wants to make it law not to notify the law. If youre keeping up with that, youre doing pretty well. They want to codify, not notifying the feds about releasing of undocumented people in San Francisco. That challenges the sanctuary policy. Now, the new sheriff will testify today, so will a number of police oofficifficials. All beginbegins. Authorities have released new video of the socalled man in white behind the Brussels Airport bombing. Theyre pleading for the publics health. Earlier video of the suspect showed him walking through the airport with two accomplices while those two men blew up themselves in the attack. Other top stories were following. Thanks for holding down the fort in the studio. The giants will mark the 17th season at at t park with baseball history. Members of the 1986 will be honored at the ballpark on saturday, 11th. The 86th season was clarks rookie year. And he, in large part,ed with helping lead the giants from a franchise worst record of 62100. Those days seem like a distance memory. That was 1985. Willie mays and orlando, not bad company to be in. No kidding. Most fans will get their hands on a giants opening day calendar, but plenty of other freebies for fans to look out for this season. Thats Madison Bumgardner and decided to go with a hitting stance, not from the mound pitching. This bobble head is going to be given out check your calendars, june 25th. Then on august 28th, fans will get a mike bobble head. Honor the third anniversary of the 20win season with the giants. Also a hunter pency powered by the sun. That means his whole body will bobble. Theres that, also, gnomes, too. The bobblehead, gnomes and Madison Bumgardner at the plate. Always such great give aways at this park. Now, lets bring in today in the bay kris sanchez in the dugout store with a look at some of the new giants gear. We are always ready to get our hands and bodies on, right . right. You know all those freebies are nice, but i tell you anything you pick up here will be worth your money and there are some new items this year. Well show you this one, first. Is a special partnership. This is a new partnership with levi doing special edition denim jacket or for of the mlb teams. These seem like right up your alley the orange shorts with the sf logo all up and down those shorts. Of course, the opening day tshirt, which is an obligatory purchase on this very special day. Also, a lot of things for the little ones. We found some things for your kids, laura. Some bare ets for the little girls and how about a Little Orange jersey for jack. You never know what the weather is going to be here at at andturand t park and we found a hat and sunglazs. Because sometimes the worst sunburns you get are here at at t park. We know the game starts at 1 35 today. You have plenty of time to get in here during your lunch break before you head on to opening day and, of course, theyre playing the dodgers and they will be. In the dugout store, kris sanchez, today in the bay. No dodge blue in there. A lot of orange. I will check out the orange and shorts. Be a little bit fair. See if you can get a tan for those legs and those shorts. Checking the first pitch forecast with anthony slaughter. He is live near willie mays plaza. How is it looking out there . Sun is up and a gorgeous start to our day. Yeah. I mean, you can see for yourself. I will step out of this shot so you can enjoy the sun rise and all of its glory and were waking up to a spectacular day here across San Francisco bay and just beautiful here for opening day. You couldnt ask for anything better. We have some very hot temperatures yesterday. Nothing like that coming our way today. As you get going out there this morning. Its chilly. Temperatures in the 40s and 50s and even in downtown San Francisco right now. 61 degrees. Not all that bad, but, again, a big difference from yesterday. Later on this afternoon, 78 degrees in san jose and 75 degrees later in san mateo and breezy later on this afternoon and wind out of the west, southwest and across the rest of the north bay, the east bay and the trivalley. Mid70s, again, is expected across really most of our inland locations today. So, as we head through the rest of the day. Well continue to keep you updated with whats happening out here. Folks getting going and the crecrew s setting up things and getting some of the swag ready. A lot of traffic to buzz around here, mike. Well continue to follow that. What is happening on those roads right now, mike. How is it looking . Any better . Appropriately orfrnge tange background there. We are talking about that one the focus points and over at at t park and over at the bay across the coliseum. As start there later in the afternoon and the warriors play tonight. Watch that. Right now slowing over through the east bay and hold holding the east bay toll plaza and no problems or surprises over here. We touch on the south bay where the sharks play tonight. That is four games going on today and a slower drive building from the northbound direction. Expect all these patterns. Over trivalley over towards sunol and also southbound 680 from the Mission Grade down towards Mission North and Mission South because of a crash over on the shoulder and also slowing over here towards the san mateo bridge and a live look shows you a steady build has now taken a toll on the speeds and slow drive across 92 and building for 84 just south of there. Thats the dumbarton bridge. Back to you. Thank you, mike. At just 26 years old Madison Bumgarner known in haddistry. He seems so calm and stoic. His teammates have a few ideas of that coming up. The new technology letting fans get on the field with their favorite players. Aladyeenistic. Dd buarns ungares even when i first came over, hes young. Hes always had one of the strongest fires, i think, within that youll ever see in a competitor and hes just, hes a perfectionist. Hes got the emotional strength of knowing hes a powerful, powerful presence and competitor. He has grown into one of the best personalities, presences, talents ever in the game. Nobody on here in the eighth. Struck him out three up and three down. Watch this guys evolution. Just when you think its kind of reached its peak, he has another dimension. Something that he loves to do. You can see that. Hes passionate. And hes the kind of guy that you want to take the ball and i think thats whats going to set this rotation apart from some other ones. Hes always been confident, but i think confidence has grown even more. I think he really expects every time out to go and pitch eight or nine innings. Im just amazed. Nobody talks about it enough. The amount of innings he threw in 2014 and to throw as many as he did last year was really incredible. Matt bum got mad game in his young career. Hes already reached a historic feat. Heres some things you might not know about that country boy. His family and friends call him madi. His first word, believe it or not was ball. So many of his family members live just outside of hudson, north carolina. That area of the state is just known as bum town. What a classic player. If youve ever dreamed of being on the field along side mad bum, this may be your year. The team is giving fans an allaccess pass without costing an arm and a leg. Very excited about is a partnership with the bay area Palo Alto Based and take a look at these head sets here they got as an example. Later, ill let you know how you can get in on this. All do is you put your audio, you put the headset on and immediately theres a visual. I cant see the camera any more. I am in the middle of a here. This is spring training in scottsdale. Im seeing people like buster posy walk by me. And Madison Bumgarner practicing and you feel like youre right in the middle of all the action. I thought i was looking at you guys. Put it right back on and youre right back in the action. It is incredible. You can look basically 360 degrees and youre seeing everything possible. So, this is part of a Fan Experience that the giants are hoping to give you. Thank you, nicole. And they actually are to have this apparently here at at t park for fans to check out all summer long so that you have it available and really quickly just to show you where this is headed, they have this heading to mobile. Theyve got these viewers here. And you just put it right on to your phone. You put it on and, boom, same thing. A lot of exciting things happening. The giants trying to partner to get the Fan Experience really going. Just one thing to look forward to this year. Here at at t park, stephanie chuang. That mobile version is sweet. Isnt that amazing all the things that they have. If youre planning on skipping work or work today, Brandon Crawford has you covered. The shortstop posted this note on twitter with the caption to the sf giants home opener should be a citywide holiday. The note says we have a very important business meeting at 24 willie mays plaza. Please excuse their absence and feel free to join, as well. Thanks in advance for cooperating. Youve been a giant help,ed Brandon Crawford. Hes like getting the principal signaturethere. What a start to our day. These are live chopper picks from above at t park this morning. That grass is manicured, ready for the big opening day here for the San Francisco giants taking on the dodgers. They are in rarefied air as they go back for another championship. Anthony slaughter standing by right now with a look at your forecast. What are we going to see here today, anthony. Good morning. Waking up to temperatures much more than we saw yesterday. Leave that jacket as you get going and looking at temperatures in the 50s across most of the bay area and few 40s across the north bay and the thing to note here this morning is the sunrise. It is just spectacular this morning. A perfect day for the ball game here across San Francisco bay. Now later on this afternoon well see clouds rush in ahead of a storm system that will bring some rain as soon as tonight in some parts of the bay area. Now, your forecast at least for today does keep things dry. And first pitch were looking at temperatures right near 68 degrees. Cooling with those clouds continuing to increase. And talking about breezy winds this afternoon. Gust anywhere from 10 to 20 miles an hour. Maybe a few foul balls over towards left field. But well be hitting home runs here across, at least the giants will. 78 degrees across the rest of the bay area for the south bay and 65 for pacifica and expect 76 today for santa rosa and 74 for oakland and 74 for ramon. Now, as i mentioned, the big story today is the big shift in the weather. Not dealing with any 80s and 90s and because our winds have shifted around an area of low pressure or high pressure, i should say, just to our north. Youll notice a disturbance coming in from the south and that will increase clouds today and give us a chance of rain as we move towards tonight into tomorrow. And that chance of rain looks like it will linger for the first half of the day on saturday. So, the next three days getting you into the weekend does keep things cool. Talking widespread 60s as soon as tomorrow and that will continue as we head to saturday and sunday. The showers are expected to be very light. Not a big storm system by any means. But it will be a nice, welcome sight to see. Especially after those temperatures we saw just yesterday. Again, temperatures today, much more tolerable. Where they should be for this time of year. In fact, even for our inland locations still above average. Back out here live, well continue to track things as we get going this morning. Folks are all abuzz.
