i am wearing shorts under here because i'm already sweating in here. >> is it really going to be that hot? >> yes, it is, laura. welcome back. we will have some weather that will make you feel like you're in florida. we are in for some 90s this week in parts of the bay area. we start out this morning at 48 degrees in the north bay. 57 degrees in the east bay. looking at the highs this afternoon. not too bad. we'll talk about that warm up and when to expect it. it's coming up in a few minutes. let's head over to mike keeping an eye on the east bay. >> overall i want to show folks the speed sensors are nothing to be surprised with. highway 13 just at the bottom just before the merge with 580 and a crash and that may be blocking part of one lane and not enough to cause any slowing and same thing with the disabled vehicle, but watch that. we may have that connector away from the bay bridge with some flashing lights. the rest of the bay bridge moves very well. guys, the first story you have really irritates me, i'll hand it off to you. >> a lot of people, mike. thank you. two thieves ransacked the make a wish foundation. they made away with a scooter once owned by hunter pence. they broke into the charity's office near at&t park saturday night. took ipads, laptops and that scooter that was auctioned off for $40,000. >> most of all, we want justice. our organization drives to grant every wish child's wish and we would hate for this to set us back. >> i can't believe it, it's scooter gate all over again. that scooter was stolen from pence once before a short distance from at&t park. a man arrested in a dramatic raid in san francisco due in cour petrov was taken into custody after they served a search warrant. an investigation of a gun at that house last month. petrov is now suing alameda deputies during an arrest that was caught on video. prosecutors are pushing for jailtime at the sentencing of a police sergeant convicted of indecent exposure. he was found guilty of exposing himself and propositioning a store manager at a san jose shopping center. the prosecutor tells "the mercury news" he beserves time behind bars because he knows a veteran officer that knows better than to lie under oath. this time near philadelphia where a train with hundreds of passengerso s crashed into a pi of construction equipment. two amtrak workers were killed and more than 30 passengers were injured. that train was traveling from new york to savannah, georgia, when it slam under to a back hoe and partially derailed. passengers say it was loud and dusty. >> the train was like rumbling and then we got off track, i guess. and then just a bunch of dust. it was just dust everywhere. >> the two workers killed were the back hoe operator and supervisors. this is just the latest in a series of accidents for amtrak. in may of last year, eight people died when a new york bound train traveling at twice the speed limit derailed. last month three dozen people were injured when a passenger train derailed in kansas. the ship carrying 200 migrants that arrived back in turkey today from greece. they were all deported from greece. many from pakistan. this is part of the european uni union's new plan to limit migration to europe. the move is facing heavy criticism. greece is deporting migrants, we just mentioned that. california making some history later today. governor brown expected to sign a bill into law that would make minimum wage $15 an hour by the year 2022. that signing ceremony is going to happen in los angeles. california is the first state in the country to commit to that $15 an hour wage. caught up with the governor in oakland. >> the idea being those who earn the least do need more. they're going to pay for housing and food and maybe college for their kids. so, it's a matter of justice. it's a matter of making a secure, harmonious society. >> so, small businesses are going to be granted an extra year to comply. critics say the decision will cause layoffs and raise the cost of living. the current minimum wage in california is $10 per hour. and speaking of firsts, san francisco could be the first city in the country to offer six weeks of fully paid leave for new parents. under this proposal businesses would have to pay workers 45% of their salary during a six-week leave. the state covers the other 55%. that proposal would apply to businesses with 0 or more workers, but some companies are outraged saying that would be way too expensive for their bottom lines. all right. well, speaking of taking care of little babies out there. let us check in with kari hall this morning. look at that hot forecast for us. you're looking great these days. >> thank you. we will have some weather that is great to start out this week and then through the middle of the week, i don't know about that. let's take a look at the current temperatures now. nothing to worry about. it's 55 degrees in san jose and 57 in oakland and 47 in napa. today it will be windy with some clearing skies and beautiful afternoon. up to 66 degrees in the mission district. some mid to upper 70s for the south bay, as well as the north bay. and the tri-valley today up to 78 degrees. we'll talk about that warm up, once again, coming up in less than ten minutes. let's head over to the tri-valley now with mike. >> where you're talking about 78 degrees not far from here. this is dublin. a good amount of traffic, but not enough to cause the slowing. we show you the sensors over by the dublin interchange. slowing out of the altamont pass. over on the shoulder as you're passing by. we're watching the entire area and watching for the north bay build and not any slowing but an earlier crash for west 80. things move well towards the bay bridge. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. coming up next, the south bay city trying to tackle a problem that has plagued many of the cities in the bay area. what laundries and showers have to do with changing city streets. san jose city leaders trying to tackle the issue of homelessness in silicon valley. already approved mobile showers and laundry service now considering affordable housing. two proposed sites for future queme developments. the purchase price for the land is more than $1 million. now, the city council is going to discuss those plans tomorrow. students in san francisco misbehave at school but probably won't get suspended for it. new data released shows more than 40% drop in the number of suspensions over the past three years and expulsions have dropped 75% in the past five years. that's because there's been a significant shift away from zero tolerance punishments that city's public schools in recent years. tobacco retailers may have to wait a little while. today the pittsburg city council will consider a new ban. give city leaders time to draft an ordinance to regulate tobacco and ecigarette retailers. all smoke shops currently in operation will continue selling their tobacco products. all eyes on california as the race to the white house finds its way to the golden state. bernie sanders making his mark here in the bay area. other candidates are campaigning in the state that could make or break the entire nomination process. snownd styindyesrdawrkedavoacrso not in our neck of the woods, but this is in hartford, connecticut, this morning. boy, frigid temperatures there actually freezing this bridge. at least the cars are making their way across right now. but snow and gusty winds wreaked a lot of havoc across the northeast. toppled trees and a big rig couldn't stand against the winds in new jersey. at least two people died and several others injured as blizzard-like conditions hammered the region. thousands still without power this morning. >> gray skies and bleak looking conditions there. not our problem here. >> sunny california. >> the snow that is here is melting right now. >> rapidly. >> and temperatures are rising. good morning, kari. >> it sure brings back some memories of connecticut seeing that snow there. now we have some very warm temperatures. we're going to do just the opposite of what they're feeling out east. now, it's 52 degrees in palo alto and 56 degrees in concord and 47 degrees this morning in napa. it will be windy, too. the winds rushing in from the northwest. here's 3:00, we have inland area winds with it about 15 to 0 miles an hour and still gusty along the coast and we may have the winds up to 30, maybe 35 miles an hour right around a half moon bay. let's break it down for palo alto and 54 degrees at 8:00 and rising into the low 60s and 11:0061 degrees. it will feel like summer over the next couple of days as high pressure builds along the coast and that will keep any weather systems from moving in and, also, create some very warm air. that rolls in here by tomorrow. it continues into wednesday, as well as thursday. we may have some record highs. some spots hitting the 80s and 90s along the coast we'll have some 70s. we will see that as you can see at the bottom of the screen between tomorrow, wednesday and thursday and then the temperatures come way back down. this is the reason why. we'll have so much cooler air moving in and a big drop in those temperatures will go from the 80s and 90s to highs in the 60s by friday and much cooler air followed by showers and possibly some heavy downpours in a few spots. so, as we enjoy the nice, calm weather today. we will have some nice weather out at a's game. the first pitch at 57 degrees and 63 degrees why the fifth inning and at end the of the game 58 degrees. we will, once again, have breezy winds. looking athead the weekend after some very hot temperatures for this time of year, we're going to bring it back down to about average. especially in the south bay. 67 degrees. some scattered showers on friday into the rest of the weekend and also snow in the sierra. highs reaching 60 degrees in san francisco by the end of the weekend, it will come back down to what we've gotten used to. highs in the 60s for the weekend. i'll talk more about that coming up. let's get an update from mike about what's happening on the roadways. >> we'll take you for a live look out here. and we're looking at a smooth drive right now. some flaws along the coast, guys, but not a problem as far as visibility on your map. no problem as far as the speed sensors and the orange highlighting is a tip of fog coming towards the area right now. the bay bridge toll plaza moves very well and that crash for 580 eastbound over in oakland just by highway 13 over there. and a disabled vehicle, no slowing there or for the rest of the bay. a live look right there in fremont, traffic flows right now 4:47. back to you. it was an emotional moment at brussels airport as the first flight takes off following last month's deadly terror attack. people cheered as that plane lift under to the air. the first of three scheduled flights yesterday. all were stopped in europe. tighter security at the airport, if you can imagine, where you can still see the damage from the bombing that killed more than a dozen people. still, airport officials say resuming operations is a sign of hope. >> i think it's a very emotional moment for all of us me, personally, of course. we all worked day and night over the last 12 days to make this moment possible. i think it's very important. >> today the brussels airport is offering flights to more destinations and that includes new york, as well. well, from primary after thought to now political powerhouse. for the first time in years california's primary expected to play a critical role in selecting our next president. >> california is a rich, delegate state for delegates from both parties. sanders is hoping a win here could pave the way to a nomination. >> the longer this thing goes on, the larger california lose. the longer they believe they have a mathematical path to victory, they'll put more and more resources in this election because from their standpoint t could be the tipping point. >> hillary clinton has been stopping by the bay area, as well. stopping by stanford two weeks ago. ted cruz was in orange county last week. hillary clinton and donald trump in the lead. california holds its primary on june 7th and people in wisconsin vote tomorrow. >> where the golden state votes for to you. that's right. so, we'll talk about oculous and wall street looks to add to last week's gains. futers are pointing higher. the dow, the nasdaq and s&p 500 rising for six out of the past seven weeks and the dow and the s&p sitting at their highest level of the year and that's on the back of a pretty strong friday's job reports and then lower oil prices, as well, helping out. look for data on factory orders. just to give you some levels here and a recap of what happened on friday. the dow retreating off 17,000. and the nasdaq also gaining at the end of last week. 4914. let's talk about more flights. more flights are arriving ontime and airlines are losing fewer bags but passengers are still complaining. the department of transportation say complaints dropped 34% last year to the highest level in 16 years and cancellations and delays. discount carriers spirit and frontier seeing the most complaints. frontier says more passengers tend to lodge their complaints directly with the airlines and those numbers are actually down. if you were hoping to explore virtual world from your living room, as you mentioned, you're going to have to wait a little bit longer. facebook oculous says a shortage is slowing the delivery of the headset that just went on sale. another set back for the device which is getting mixed reviews for high cost and potential for discomfort. now telling cal train will offer more cars that accommodate bicycles. ridership has grown to an average of more than 60,000 riders each week day. that's 2,000 more per day than just last year. continuing coverage now. no real relief but b.a.r.t. passengers at the end of the line. not yet ready to resume normal service. service has been affected now for more than two weeks from an electrical problem that is knocking ow power to train cars. over the weekend, b.a.r.t. did resume normal service as a test, but apparently the system is not ready to handle the heavy weekday commute. shuttles will continue to run between the two stations. new this morning an outside chance some californians will say good-bye to shorter showers. water conservation orders may be lifted for some people, even as the drought lingers for a fifth year. members of the state water resources control board will open a discussion today on the next steps for the drought emergency. one change possibly is to relax or drop water restrictions for el nino-soaked californians. rules for people in southern california would likely remain in place. >> it's nice to see the brown gone from all of our hills when you drive. >> more
