Now to the future of one of the greatest microclimate forecast kari hall. Good morning, sam and laura. We start out with light rain across parts of the bay area and we are tracking those showers as they continue to move through, creating some slick conditions on those roadways as you head out the door. It is approaching san jose and will be there soon as we will start to see those showers moving in. Our temperatures are chilly. Its 42 degrees in the north bay and 43 degrees in the south bay. Highs today reaching the midmid5 mid50s. 55 degrees in San Francisco and were also taking a look at some showers that are making things wet. So, lets check in now with mike to check in and see how the roads are moving. You showed the shot of the bay privilege and steady in your camera and calmer winds and theres the Golden Gate Bridge and that mist and that drizzle. Slick rain and slick roadways and rain in many parts of the bay. What shows up in green. The highlighting right here. Highlighting the green on the sensors. It it kind of blends in and farther east and farther south things are calming down. As kari talks about, that system is coming in and watch the wet roadways as the morning commute gets started. Back tayou. Now to decision 2016. Iowa voters provided the first dramatic moments in the race for president with one nailbiter and one upset. The nailbiter in last nights caucuses is a democratic race. Most people went to sleep with a decision still hanging in the balance. Just hours ago, nbc news declared Hillary Clinton the apparent winner. But she and Bernie Sanders each officially received nearly 50 of the support. Martin omalley, by the way, officially threw in the towel last night on his campaign. The upset belongs to ted cruz who got the better of the donald. Cruz got 28 of iowas delegates. Trump got 24 tied with marco rubio. Ted cruz quoted the bible when he called it the biggest victory ever in iowa caucus history. Tonight, iowa has proclaimed to the world morning is coming. Morning is coming. This is the moment they said would never happen. We would go on to easily beat hillary or bernie or whoever the hell they throw up there. Next up is New Hampshire where right now sanders and trump each hold a sizable lead in the polls. The New Hampshire primary takes place one week from today. Also new this morning, a commuter train on the peninsula hit and killed a person walking on the tracks. Happened just after 8 00 last night near 25th avenue in san mateo. Service was slow for a couple hours while investigators canvassed that area. Transit Officials Say this is caltrains first futility of 2017. A troubling scene in the south bay. A 70foot tree toppled on a man in san jose killing him. Investigators want to find out how this could have happened. All took place yesterday afternoon. Coroner has not yet identified that man. Investigators are looking into a number of factors that could have caused the tree to topple. That includes recent winds and the drought. Many people in the area think the trees health could have played a role and now they want other trees inspected. Its happening all over. Just dangerous. Its something that needs to be taken a look at around here. Lots of kids around here. On that note, police say that several kids were able to escape the falling tree. A tree inspector is going to be at the scene this morning and try to determine what happened. Super bowl l turned its folks to the south bay. The red carpet was rolled out at the sap center for the leagues inaugural Opening Night event. What is traditionally been known as media day in the past Opening Nights, still had that familiar flair of interesting characters asking the players interesting in ing equally as interesting questions. We will see that for a few more hours as we take a look at that futurecast and the rain starts to move to the south affecting parts of the south bay and east bay during the morning commute. It all clears out and we get ready for another round of rain that will be moving in for tomorrow. Temperatures will be cool. We will oonly swnoonly see the the low to mid50s. You can see the misty and possibly rainy conditions and patches across that span and the tarp that was blowing around yesterday. It is calm this morning and less wind. More moisture. Coming up next, an International Emergency. The zika virus spreading at an alarming rate. The millions of cases anticipated across the world in the next year. Happening toda happening today the second sierra snow survey of the winter could lead to good news for the states water shortage. Waiting on todays results to extend Water Conservation orders. The department of Water Resources says january storms have improved state reservoirs still a long way to go to impact the drought. The survey taken in december shows the highest snow pack levels in five years. A developing story now regarding the recent zika virus outbreak. It is a global issue, but now the California Department of Public Health is warning people to take precautions against mosquito bites. Health officials advise people to remove standing water near their house and to provide insect repellent when necessary. Officials say six confirmed cases of the virus in this state all contracted while traveling outside of the country. Meantime, the World Health Organization has declared an International Emergency spread of zika. The as many as 4 million cases of zika in the americas in the next year. The group held an emergency session to try to evaluate the outbreak after a number of cases were linked to birth defects of abnormally small heads in newborns. All agree on the urgent need to investigate and understand this relationship better. The last time an emergency designation was used was in 2014 over the ebola outbreak. Back then, the World Health Organization was criticized over what was called a slow response. 4 41. Coming up, the stage is set for the super bowl coming to the bay area, but now the protest. Not at the game or the sport, but pay and a company that has nothing to do with football. Lets take a live look outside right now at the bay bridge. You can see those lights moving across the bay bridge. Looking good there. As we are starting out with some rain this morning and you may have to deal with some slick roads at times, but weve seen this moving through San Francisco and now its approaching san jose. Severely heavy rain at least to start out. We get a closer look at whats happening here. As we do see that rain moving down the peninsula and also across parts of the east bay and you can see that as it moves in. The bright reds and the yellows show the more intense rain as it continues to advance into the south bay. Our temperatures now in the lower 40s in livermore and san jose 43 degrees and also 43 in napa. Lets take it it hour by hour because, once again, this rain will be here during the Morning Hours and then by 11 00 starts to move on out of here as our temperatures warm up. Wont be that warm today. Well only see those highs in the mid50s today. And the showers will start to sink to the south by 10 00 or 11 00. And then by 3 00, 4 00, 5 00, we are just getting a few breaks in the clouds. Into tonight, we will have mostly cloudy skies. We start out the day tomorrow with some clouds and then look at what happens as we go into the afternoon. Some more rain moving in. We will see the showers at least for the afternoon to evening hours and then moving out by thursday morning. So between these two systems we are looking at the most maybe 0. 4 and at the least 0. 1. In parts of the south bay. As we head into the weekend, our temperatures will be much warmer. It is looking like an awesome weekend. Highs in the upper 60s, even hitting 70 degrees in the north bay by sunday. And a lot of sunshine to go along with it. Lets check in now with mike taking us to the north bay. Looking towards san rafael where the rain has come through and left slick roadway and minor puddling. Well show you the map because not a lot of traffic. The green highlighted throughout 101 novato down to the Golden Gate Bridge slick conditions there. Moving across the east shore freeway and a crash reported right around the coliseum. Ill swing that camera around and see if we can find it on the roadway. So far no major injuries and theres the green as we see through the east bay and now more rain coming down to the south bay as kari reported. Look for earnings today from pfizer and the dow 17 points to 1549. The nasdaq rising. Yahoo could unveil major job cuts today. The struggling internet giant reports earnings this afternoon and is expected to outline a restructuring plan. Wall street journal says that could include slashing 15 of its workforce or 1,600 jobs the core web business which includes email. Yahoo lost a lot of recent ground to google and other. Shares of alphabet today Google Parent Company beating wall street earning forecast thanks to more dollars from mobile advertising. The focus on the celebrations from the south bay to San Francisco have also become a grand stage for protesting groups. Last night uber drivers protested pay cuts staged a demonstration from Candlestick Park all the way to uber headquarters. Snarling traffic in the process for hours. They wanted their voices heard. This will wake them up. You know, its like david and goliath. 40,000 driver partners throughout the bay area and i think for many of them our message to them is that we realize that, you know, price cuts are difficult. And we mentioned a series of groups protesting. There was the justice for mario woods coalition, which welcomed the nfl to San Francisco during weekend festivities. Theyre calling for police reform. Police say people do have the right to protest, but not to break the law. 4 49. Happening today. As landon just told us yahoo reports earnings that some critics of yahoo use a moment to protest what they say are sales supported by yahoo . Yahoo ban sales of all ivory and most ivory products and admits enforcement could be possible in places like japan where some ivory sales are legal. Yahoo japan rolled out tougher ivory sale policies along with tighter monitoring. They plan to gather outside yahoo offices. The chief is hosting a virtual town hall on twitter at 7 00 p. M. Residents will be allowed to submit any questions they have about public safety. The chief will answer those questions in realtime. Police held a real town hall meeting last month where people showed up in person. They say they like the idea of trying it out virtually because it could be easier for residents to take part. All signs point to the raiders staying in oakland, at least for now. Both oakland city leaders and Team Owner Mark Davis says theyre working on a lease extension for next season. Libby shaft is not involved in talks with the raiders, but believes a deal will get done. The Coliseum Authority is handling negotiations for the lease extension with davis. Well, a tough decision for one School District grappling with an idea that most parents probably wish they did not have to think about. A San Francisco unified Schools Committee voted last night to support a plan to expand the Districts High School Condom Availability Program to middle schools. Planners say it would still be difficult for students to get and they would first have to receive counseling from a school nurse or from a social worker. Parents are very divided about this idea. Lets check in now with mike to see how the roads are moving. Kari, theyre moving well. Oakland 880 past the coliseum. A crash reported around high street on the southbound side. Didnt see any inactivity and no lanes blocked and we did see a caravan of a larger vehicle. Had basically a structure and houses on the back of their trailers moving south and they moved through without any problem all around the bend and that does indicate clear traffic flow right here. Moved the camera south and didnt see any slowing. Look at your map and leave that for 880 right around the coliseum area. The green indicates slicker roadways and one live camera out there being palo alto. The rain hasnt reached 101 at university but well track things with kari. Back to you. No details and a no contest plea for the owner of a south bay nudist camp who is accused of stealing water. Authorities say the owner in 2014 repeatedly trespassed and illegally diverted water from the nearby creek.
