A holiday trip took a tragic turn a gilroy family of five were killed when their plane crashed just south of bakersfield over the weekend. Their plane took off on saturday and they were headed to the Las Vegas Area when their plane disappeared off the radar. This morning, were learning more about the trail of clues left behind that could paint a better picture of what exactly happened. Today in the bay Chuck Coppola tracking the latest developments and right now hearing from a family member. Just trying to understand what happened. So far there arent a lot of clues but air Traffic Controllers lost radar contact with a plane around 4 00 p. M. Saturday and roughly a half hour later 4 30 p. M. Three radio calls for help went out for the pilot. Mayday. Mayday. What is 402 saying. A relative tells us thomas jason price and his wife, and their three children, 9yearold olivia, 14yearold, john and 10yearold mary were aboard the single engine piper that went down in an Almond Orchard some ten miles south of bakersfield. The plane left saturday for henderson, nevada. The National Weather service says it was raining where the plane went down where Current County Sheriff Deputies recovered five bodies from the wreckage. Just trying to do our best to either, the investigation and assist in finding what the cause was and make sure these types of tragedies dont occur, again. Coming from a relative, not the coroner, we should point out. The family was headed on to a Holiday Party in henderson, nevada. The aircrafts registration says the piper was manufactured in 1978. A horrifying scene last night in las vegas after a driver intentionally crashed her car into a crowd of people walking the strip, killing one person and injuring dozens of others. It happened near the paris hotel and casino. Police say a woman driving a car on las vegas boulevard veered on to the sidewalk sending people flying. Get this, she then backed on to the street and drove back on the sidewalk, again. Before she drove off. Police caught up to her a few blocks later. Witnesses said they couldnt believe what they were seeing. Suddenly saw like people fly in the air because the cars hit them and it was like a bowling ball hitting pins. Again, one person died. 37 more were hurt. Six of them critically. The story gets worse. The driver had a 3yearold in the car with her. That child was not hurt. While police say it was intentional, so far theyre not calling it an act of terrorism. 5 04 happening later today repair crews shutting down alvarado boulevard. That closer between fair ranch road and freddy street. Detoured on to smith street and union city boulevard in the meantime. That work is in the same area of this massive sinkhole from last month. Crews will shut down starting at about 8 00 this morning. Should be back open by 5 00 tonight. Given all this wet weather, bay area leaders this morning will press people to be prepared for the worst. Contra costa county will make an announcement at 11 00 this morning. The roads now covered with standing water and traffic was backed up throughout the bay area as the chp dealt with an increase in spinouts and crashes. Thats not the only thing slowing down drivers. Another thing were dealing with right now is debris washing down on to the roadway due to the rain because its been so dry, we have a lot of debris on the hillside. The chp wants to remind people to drive extra cautiously this Holiday Season as the wet weather continues this weekend and folks flush their way on to work. Now, we see that light rain moving in and were finally starting to see some of that in the south bay. Weve been so jealous of San Francisco. And now as we go a little bit closer, still some of those showers moving into oakland and concord and parts of the east bay. Youll have a very wet commute windshield wipers on. Temperatures now in the lower 50s and this is the way it pans out for the rest of the day. More green on the radar. By 9 30, everyone out on the road and we will have some rain falling. Then we will have some breaks. There will be times when you just see some clouds and then into the afternoon, some more waves of wet weather moving in and also into the start of the day tomorrow. Still some shower coming down and maybe late tonight and early tomorrow is when the south bay will start to see the heavy rainfall moving in and additional rainfall amounts may total over an inch. Maybe 1. 5 for walnut creek and fremont and then up towards santa rosa 1. 5. More weather systems passing as we go into the next several days. Expect it to be wet between now and christmas eve. Lets see how it looks on the roadways now with mike. Looks kind of sloppy over here, mike. The bay bridge toll plaza is sloppy, as well. Were on a typicalern but we expect a much lighter commute throughout the rest of this weekend. In fact, throughout the rest of the year. Well look at your map because this wet weather is causing danger on the roadways or an issue for caution. West 580 a crash there that has finally cleared the number of vehicles at the 24 connector. Another one in the backup and another one on the approach as youre hitting and a single car involved there. Single car 880 at university avenue. Reportedly in lanes although i cant see it on the camera. You may see it on the roadway and we see that slowing, as well. Your car may lose traction, slow down those speeds and allow for a reaction time and nothing major as far as the freeways are going and no closures and the rest of the bay bridge moves smoothly. We have an update on the suspicious object that investigators discovered aboard an air france jet that forced it to make an Emergency Landing. Kira anim happ happening today, the friend and former neighbor of one of the san deano shooters will face a judge. This time for a bail and detention hearing. Enrique marquez is accused with committing crimes of terrorism and federal weapons charges. Marquez purchased two assault rifles used in the San Bernardino massacre by farook and his wife, malik. The pair killed 14 people and wounded 20 others in the attack. Well, it is a fake. Thats what investigators are now saying about a suspicious object that forced an Emergency Landing in kenya over the weekend. It happened in midair aboard an air france jet traveling from the island to paris. The passenger told the crew that he found a possible bomb inside the bathroom, so the pilots made an Emergency Landing in kenya. Nearly 500 people were then evacuated from the plane on emergency slides. One passenger says many of them didnt know the real reason for the evacuation until it was all over. We didnt know what was happening, actually. And, so, we said we had to land because we had a technical problem, but it was actually not a technical problem. Authorities say that the fake bomb was made out of cardboard and a household timer. Six paernlssengers were being questioned by kenyan authorities. We learned at least one has been detained over that fake bomb. At 5 25. Coming up a plane crashes near bakersfield with no survivors. The details were learning about the south bay family of five as investigators try to figure out what went wrong. Kari hall is tracking the radar for us this morning. Kari, how much longer can we expect this wet weather . Raining in San Francisco for 24 hours and most likely rain for another 24 hours. But the south bay just now starting to get in on that wet weather. So, lets take a look at the radar now. Scattered light showers off and on all across the bay area. And just grab the umbrella and make sure youre prepared for not only the rain, but the wind and the cold air. As we start out with temperatures in the low 50s and highs today in the mid to upper 50s and, once again, more of those showers. Now, it looks like weve got a back up there. Look at the east bay camera. Mike, whats happening there . Thats the bay bridge toll plaza, kari. That particular camera. Also filling. We should have metering lights turned on any second and all these lights. East 8 oat university. I looked as far as i could and the low clouds and the mist and approaching university. Lets look at your map and just before you get to golden gate field and just outside of our camera range today the visibility and slowing out of richmond on that approach. A shooting outside a nightclub in san leandro injured four people. Happened just before 2 00 this morning at a popular night spot called Club Caliente police dont have shooter information for us but they are interviewing witnesses. Not clear if there was some sort of fight inside the club that moved outside. By the way, this is at 14th street and 146th avenue. Police say the owners of the club are cooperate. The victims went to two different hospitals and were told their injuries are nonlife threatening. What started as a holiday trip to begin the season turned tragic for a south bay family this weekend. This morning, were learning more about the gilroy family killed when their plane crashed just south of bakersfield over the weekend. Took off from reid view hill airport on saturday afternoon and headed to the Las Vegas Area when their trip took a turn for the worse. Their plane disappeared completely off the radar leaving family members deastronaut a s looking for some answers. Chuck copopola has more. The National Weather service says there was rain in the area where the plane went down and this morning federal crash investigators are going into the area to try to figure out what happened. The plane took off from San Francisco headed for henderson, nevada. Thomas jason price was at the controls flying his family to a Holiday Party. Sheriff deputies say they recovered five bodies. The relatives says prices wife, 41yearold olga price and the couples three children. 9yearold olivia, 10yearold mary and 14yearold john traveling together to that Holiday Party when 4 00 p. M. The plane lost contact with traffic control. Deputies are helping federal investigators. They located the debris field that was approximately one quarter mile in length. And we are just trying to do our best to assist in the investigation and assist in finding what the cause was. Thank you very much, chuck. We may learn more today about a mysterious death over the weekend inside of a cal fraternity house. Berkeley police say someone called Early Morning to report a 22yearold young man unresponsive inside of the house on channing way in berkeley. Friday the last day of the school semester. Police dont know if Fraternity Members were having a party but many students already left campus for winter break. The found dead was not a current student at cal. His death is only being called suspicious. Police do plan on updating that investigation later today. A judge today will issue his final ruling on clearing San Francisco polices who sent one another racist and hohome ophob tests. The Police Department waited too long to discipline the officers. At least nine cops sent a string of bigoted texts that surfaced back in 2012 but only became public earlier this year. Thats when the police chief thought to have the officers fired. The judge, friday, cited that the statute of limitations when he ruled they should keep their jobs. A richmond neighborhood evacuated after a possible explosive device was found inside of the home now, were learning it might have been intended to target muslims. The neighborhood around mcbride and san pablo avenues was evacuated while the bomb squad detonated that device yesterday. Officers say the initial investigation actually started on thursday. Thats when police got a tip about a man who said he wanted to harm muslims and may have some sort of explosive at his house. Detectives followed up and calling a suspicious device. Thats when the bomb squad was called in. They just sat down and i said, put in a box. Put it in the car. It was like a little pop and that was basically it. Police let everyone back into theirs shortly after that. Nobody was hurt. Police arrested a 55yearold man at the home. No word on what kind of charges he faces. New this morning, surveillance pictures of suspected thieves in petaluma. They stole electronics from a Verizon Wireless store on East Washington street right next to petaluma fairgrounds off the 101. That made for an easy get away just before 2 00 yesterday afternoon. They made off with hundreds of dollars worth merchandise. More surveillance pictures to show you this morning. This time of a scary crime scene in the north bay. These images show a man and his get away car in sonoma county. Investigators say he tried to break into a number of apartments along beverly drive. Eventually forcing his way inside one of them. Thats where police say he got into a bedroom where a woman was sleeping at the time. He woke up when he tried to look under the bed sheets. He jumped into that car. This morning, Oakland Police are trying to unravel a couple of shooting one deadly the most recent occurred on mandela parkway near ninth street just before 2 00 yesterday afternoon. A teen nler was killed. Two shooters ran away from the scene and less than a half hour earlier only blocks away three people shot under the interstate 880 approach to the bay bridge. That shooter also got away in a car. Police dont have the description of anyone and they cant say if those two shootings are related. At 5 36 right now. Alameda county Sheriff Deputies searching for a gunman who killed a man right in the middle of the street. This happened in front of the sim custom cycle shop near hayward overnight on sunday. Police say that there was some sort of event going on saturday night when a fight broke out. Then someone opened fire. When police arrived, they found a man dead in the middle of the street. Right now police are not identifying that victim. Theres no word on the identity of the gunman either. A former east bay youth pastor is facing child molestation charges this morning. 34yearold Gabriel Lopez is accused of molesting two girls. The victims told police it happened at a Student Ministry program in hercules where lopez was a volunteer pastor. Both victims attended the high school in crocket. Thatt es where lopez was a volunteer football coach. The search right now is on for the driver of a ford suv involved in a hit and run in fremont hap happened Early Saturday Morning at the intersection of fremont boulevard. The two men were walking in the crosswhen they were struck by the suv. The driver took off. Police did find debris, though, from a 1998 ford suv at the scene. The victims are both in the hospital thissing. One suffered lifethreatening injuries. We now know the identity of the man killed in the car crash when it crashed into the oakland, 31yearold jeffrey hart died saturday when his suv plunge under to the water. Witnesses say he was speeding when his car jumped the sidewalk, crashed through railing and into the water. It h it. The cashier was able to run out and help and immediately jump into the water. I cant even see my hand. Its too dark to see anything. I just go in there and try to find something and im finding absolutely nothing. When emergency crews arrived, a rescue swimmer with the Alameda Fire Department was able to find harts body but he was ronounced dead at the hospital. A desperate search under way for dozens of people after a landslide in china. Thats what youre looking at there in this video. Up to 20 feet of mud covered at least 33 buildings in an industrial area. At least 91 people reported missing. Heavy rains in that region saturated the soil making it increasingly unstable and, ultimately, causing it to collapse. Better news here at home a rain storm dumped fresh powder in the high sierra.
