"today in the bay's" meteorologist kari hall. chilly weather in store? >> we're getting ready for a very chilly day and one of the coldest nights weave had so far this year. as we take a look at the satellite and radar, we do see there's snow in the sierra and we also have that rain moving east. we've also been able to pick up on snowflakes flying over the mt. hamilton area and gilroy seeing the last little bit of that rain moving through. our temperatures will be very chilly, gusty winds and also some flooding concerns along the bay area coastline. i'll detail that coming up in a few minutes. let's check up with mike to see how the roads will be. >> looking behind me t bay bridge toll plaza. you see the sheen on the roadway, puddling in the parking lot. that's what you'll find, slick surface streets. we're looking at a light morning commute. a lot of folks hitting the roadways early in the morning just after the break in the commute because of the traffic -- because of the vacation holiday week. a little crash towards the bay bridge toll plaza, but nothing more than that. >> thank you very much. we move to our top story. first kat steinle, now a well-known oakland artist. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell live in san francisco with the twist in this investigation. bob? >> laura and sam, good morning to you. sfrins police tell us the gun stolen and used to murder an oakland muralist was taken from a south market area. yesterday the man accused in that robbery and mur dr appeared in an l.a. county court. you hear in the video he was not happy. he repeatedly yelled obscenities. his name is marquise holloway who police say shot and killed antonio ramos as he painted a mural over 580 in october. investigators believe holloway was trying to rob ramos of his camera. in the court case he says it was an accident. i.c.e. released a statement, a duty weapon belonging the an officer with enforcement and removal operation was stolen september 13th in san francisco from a vehicle being used by the officer. the nbc bay area investigative unit says since 2006, i.c.e. agents have lost 165 weapons. as far as the arraignment goes, they never got through it yesterday. they'll have him reappearing this upcoming monday. 4:33. happening today, a north bay man accused in the deadly stabbing of his mother and father is supposed to make his first appearance. authorities arrested 34-year-old nathan wilson on monday. he's accused of killing his mother and father earlier that day at their family home near sebastopol. family friends says for a long time wilson struggled with mental health issues. he'll be arraigned today in santa rosa. >> the south bay home a total loss after being gutted by fire. it started about 8:00 last night on wooding court in san jose. you see the flames quickly spreading. fortunately firefighters kpt it from jumping to neighboring homes. a family of three lives in the house. none of whom were home when the fire broke out. our crew was still there when the homeowner came back, devastating by trying to love at the bright side. >> it's a shame and heartbreaki heartbreaking. again, i'm okay. my wife is okay. my son is okay. my family is okay. so we'll get through this. >> amazing perspective for someone who just lost their home. firefighters say they won't even go inside to try to figure out a cause until later today. >> a little shocked at the same time. it's got to be tough. all right. the weather. a lot of people traveling for the holidays, either coming or going from the bay area. rain to start our day. >> rain to start, still wet as you head out this morning packing up the car. if you're heading the the south, you may still encounter some of that rain on the roadways like i-5 or heading down just south of san jose. so dealing with some of those lingering showers, and as we go into the rest of the day, looking at chilly temperatures. i'll detail that and a look at the weekend coming up. let's check in with mike. >> look at the sheen on the roadway, that's folks traveling northbound 101. that water still slikt here and on the roadways. watch those on and off-ramps. lighter traffic means we might keep the speeds a little higher. we don't have any slowing for the south bay. there was a report of flooding in the milpitas area overnight. really no major issues getting toward the 20-something points. it was a laugher. a possible health hazard. nbc bay area investigating a toxic spill discovered months ago. why where you get your drinking water matters. an investigative unit officials still can't seem to answer, this after a hazardous chemical leak was discovered more than seven months ago. >> environmental health inspectors say the leak may have contaminated underwater ground supplies. investigative reporter bigad shaban has more. >> good morning. the leak was discovered at an oil field in alameda county run by a company called e and b natural resources. crews there are still working to clean up the mess that was actually discovered at least seven months ago. county officials still can't answer basic questions about the impact of the leak and whether those living near the site could be in danger. about 400 wells are in the area, but state officials couldn't tell us how many people rely on that water. most, if not all, are private wells, so the water is never treatmented for possible contaminates before it's used for drinking and farmer. in a statement e and b says it believes the leak happened years ago before they ever bought the oil field. the company says it is taking responsibility for the leak. county workers in charge of overseeing the cleanup in livermore say the contaminated soil needs to be removed first before they can safely dig deep enough to test the water supplies. the county is requiring the oil company to provide those test results by december 21st, which means eight months will have passed before some people in livermore find out if toxic chemicals may have oozed into their water supply. >> this isn't the first time this oil company has had to report a leak or spill of hazardous chemicals. you can learn more by sunshine and gusty winds, too. we've been tracking the rain moving through, even a little snow over toward mt. hamilton. as we take a closer look there, we see the rain, last little bit of it moving through 5 and farther to the south. maybe 101 would be a better way to head south. we'll check in with mike for that. let's take a look at the current temperatures, 35 degrees in napa and santa rosa. 45 degrees in san francisco and san carlos. in san jose, 44 degrees, and look how much rain that last little bit of those showers dropped and about a quarter inch around union city as well as sunol. we had light amounts that doesn't include what we had yesterday. about .25 inch in milpitas as well as sunnyvale. as we go into the day, the winds will help dry things out and coming in from the north at about five to ten miles an hour. calming down as we go into tonight. the kammerer winds may allow for freezing temperatures to really settle in all across the bay area and in those valleys. temperatures today, no matter where you are, will be in the mid 50s. no wide range in temperatures today. mostly sunny skies heading into the afternoon. into the next few days we're looking to see when will it rain again. by monday, maybe if you're coming back from thanksgiving, you may have to deal with some rain then and then again on wednesday. so our weather may be starting to get a little bit more active here. let's check in with mike to see how the roads are moving. >> kari, it was active enough to leave water on the roadway in the north bay. a little puddling near the truck scale area. that's the word of caution, light traffic here. as we look at your map, traffic around the bay is very light. getting away toward the sierra, i-80. highway 50, 88, 89 all have chains required. i-5 is still open, but remember we did have issues last time when it had heavy rains. kari is talking about possible snow coming through the area. in the south bay hills we've seen some of that hit. don't worry. you won't build a snowman. those are the conditions, but it will be gone soon. junk food advertising on youtube kids is leading for calls for the feds to step in. >> you wonder why your and ex-prescription dates. it happened between november and december of last year and april to july of this year. hilton is offering free credit monitoring services to affected customers. youtube's kid's app is coming under fire again. consumer add cassie groups filed complaints saying they found hundreds of ads and promotions for junk food products for brands such as coca-cola, northwest l disease. the cdc says there's only about 30 such reported infections either. if you're worried about the spread of the insect in california, it's already in the state, although it's much more likely to be found in wooded areas than in your bedroom. the numbers keep going up in a nationwide e cola outbreak. it involves chicken salad from cosco. 19 people reported sick in seven states including california. five people have gone to the hospital for things as serious as kidney failure. experts say this is not the same type of e cola forced the closure of chipotle restaurants on the west coast. how the roads are moving. >> we're watching the king tides. yesterday we had the closure highway 1 at 101. right now they're all open again. this is san jose water kicking up on the roadways. dublin, not major amount of traffic on the roadway, but still a lot of cars. you watch these off-ramps, these folks doing just fine. this is why we warn, the slick off-ramps could mean you slip off the edge. the bay bridge toll plaza moving well as well. a light easy drive so far towards san francisco. back to you. thank you very much, mike. it is 4:55. a new clook for santa clara police officers. body cameras certainly becoming a sign of the times. the department says officers are now equipped with the cameras after a year of field tests and training. santa clara is the latest city to adopt the technology. it used both federal and city funding to pay for the $435,000 price tag. a conflict between federal and state law has some law enforcement officials worrying that a child pornography suspect may walk free without a trial. the conflict in the twoo laws is the focus of an nbc bay area investigation. right now federal law prohibits the copying of any pornography even for defense teams in criminal trials. state law allow it is practice leaving law enforcement in a bit of a quandary. >> we can't win. we either have to turn it over or a case could be dismissed against a
