identifying a man wanted in connection with those weekend bombings, both here in new york and in new jersey. that injured at least 29. take a look, here is his picture. his name is ahmed khauhan raham. said to be living in elizabeth, new jersey t town where five explosive devices were discovered near a busy train station and where police have been searching a building. we have complete coverage beginning with nbc national correspondent miguel almaguer. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. police have launched a regional drag net releasing the photo and name of a person they want to question. this as several law enforcement sources tell nbc news they fear a terror cell may be working in this area after three explosions rocked the region, and could have easily killed someone. considered armed and dangerous amad khan rahami wanted in connection with the bombing saturday night. he's the man seen on video near the explosion and near a pressure cooker that didn't designate. the 28-year-old afghan native lived in elizabeth, new jersey where overnight a blast sent shock waves through the community. police startled, the public rattled. the smell of gun fire in the air. a back pack with five devices inside suddenly exploding, hours later heavily armed fbi agents arrive at this nearby home. officials say all part of their investigation. back at the crime scene, the mayor says the bomb squad accidentally triggered the blast. >> it was not a controlled explosion that occurred when they were cutting in order to make it safe. >> reporter: before 9:00 p.m. sunday investigators say two men discovered the back pack in a trash can, pipes and wires inside, a few hundred feet outside of a neighborhood bar. police shut down the adjacent train station, suspending commuter traffic for hours, the danger to the public soon became clear. only one of five devices exploded. thankfully no one hurt. but the blast powerful enough to kill. >> the loss of life could have been tremendous. >> the people doing this, they have no value on human life and it's really difficult to understand their rationale. >> reporter: shortly before the explosion, 10 miles away, investigators stopped a vehicle of interest near the verrazano bridge. five people taken in for questioning in connection to the terror investigation. no charges filed yet. the blast in new jersey comes after a powerful explosion in manhattan injuring 29 saturday night. earlier saturday in seaside park, new jersey, an ied exploded along the route of a charity race before it got under way. this morning, several law enforcement officials tell nbc news they are concerned an active terror cell with multiple players could now be at work in new york and new jersey. three explosions over the last 48 hours, and now a massive manhunt for this man. it's believe that rahami lived in the residence where the fbi is now searching, it's only a mile from where we are from where the bomb was detonated earlier. investigators have not said if they have a lead on the man's whereabouts and have not said what the connection may be to those five individuals pulled over and then questioned by investigators. matt. >> miguel almaguer, thank you. i want to turn to nbc's justice kors spoken debt pete williams talking to sources all morning long. let's start where miguel ended off. do they know if there is more of a connection between the five people, have they find this guy? >> reporter: five people questioned are members of his family i'm told that the questioning is about over now so he is the key to this, and you're right, matt, this thing moved so fast and i'm told there were three reasons that led them to him. first of all, two of the three devices that were planted did not go off. the cell phones were attached to them, they had numbers that were dialed, that was a piece of evidence and secondly i'm told a fingerprint was found on one of those unexploded devices that led to rahami and the third is surveillance vooxt officials say he is seen on surveillance video at both the bombing scenes you're looking at stills that the new jersey state police say were taken from the surveillance video in new york that showed him, this is the earlier picture of him that has the hair and the beard, they put out two other still pictures, but this is from the surveillance video. so those three things together, thefingerprint, the surveillance, and that explains all of this activity. >> let me stop there because you mention the fingerprint. is he someone who was previously known to law enforcement, pete? >> reporter: no. but because he came to the united states his fingerprint would be on file. he is born in afghanistan so they would have his fingerprint from that. but i'm told he was not really on any kind of terror watch list. i don't know exactly what the encounter was, the fbi had some peripheral knowledge of him but he was never considered -- not under surveillance, he was not on any kind of a watch list. >> all right. pete, thank you very much. richard engel is chief foreign correspondent. sean henry is the former assistant director of the fbi now president of crowd strike. good morning to both of you. sean, let me start with you. here we go, these undetonated devices create a wealth of opportunity and evidence for law enforcement. what do we know, what do you think about the sophistication of the devices and of the suspect or the bomber? >> that's right, matt. the fact that those devices weren't exploded is a treasure-trove for law enforcement. it will generate a lot of investigative leads. the fbi has a t-dak which is a multinational or multijurisdictional center, fbi, atf, department of defense, they looked at over 100,000 ied's over the last 12 years and collected a lot of signatures so they are able to look at the type of components that made up those devices, look at the triggering devices, also be able to exploit as pete said if there are finger precipitates, dna. i think the fact that they were able to identify rahami is quickly it was a key piece of evidence in the ability to look at this to put out this all point bulletin. >> look at the bigger picture for me, though, the fact there are four different forensic scenes, crime scenes, does that lead investigators in the direction that this one suspect or a one suspect acted alone as a lone wolf, or there is a larger cell at work? >> i think the investigation is going to bear that out. i think that they probably will be looking for multiple subjects. that's not clear at this moment. but i can tell you that getting rahami is key to them because he is the link if in fact there are others out there, of course one of the most important pieces here is being pro active to try and disrupt any potential future acts. the fact he is -- his name is ot there, his picture is out there, police officers are looking for him, that's somewhat disruptive, perhaps keeping him away from his cell. i know they execute add search warrant on his home in elizabeth, new jersey. didn't find bomb making equipment there. we don't know where that might be if there are other locations he may have been at. >> richard, let me turn to you. this man hunt is early but we don't know how long he has had in terms of a head start. it's 48 hours to release his name but he could have been on the run for much of that time. >> he has been operating, according to the officials, believing that he's the main suspect. it doesn't mean he is still here. to answer the question you raised earlier when you compare this incident to brussels or paris or some of the other home grown or directed terrorist attacks, this seems quite on an amateur scale. several of these bombs didn't work. they missed their target. the one that blew up in new york didn't succeed in killing any one. still injured 29 people but it's a quite amateur attempt to carry out a complex attack. >> talk about the timing, though. these bombs were found some exploded, others did not, on the weekend before dignitaries from around the world arrive here in new york for the meeting for the united nations. is this designed in your opinion to send a specific message at a specific time? >> hard to know. on one level it's a very good time to carry out an attack because there is so much attention, so much security. on another side you could say it's a disastrous time because there is so much extra security. i heard the bomb that went off on 23rd street. i happened to be two blocks away. in minutes there were police, fire departments, national guard, fbi on the scene. in minutes. so, if you want to grab attention, it's probably a good time. if you are actually trying to carry out an attack that has a big effect, it's a very time when there is a lot of reinforcement. >> these five pipe bombs in a back pack in a trash can near what would be a busy train station, do you get the sense that that was the intended target, or that these were dumped there by a suspect who simply had to drop and run? >> you know, it sounds like that may be the latter. of course, we're not going to know. i don't know there were triggering or timing devices found there. the explosion that occurred was based on the robot trying to disable that device. but the investigation, talking to people in that general area, this is going to be another few days. try and determine who in fact is involved, what their specific motivations are. transportation we know is always considered a target. and there has been increased patrols, police presence at amtrak and subway stations around the country. that's an important critical infrastructure and we know terrorists attempt to target those. >> sean, quickly, richard, we hear see something, say something. that worked in a couple occasions. >> and on a massive scale. it's apb has been put out to every cell phone in the new york area. everyone's looking for him now, his picture. i think if he is detained, based on previous incidents like these around the world, generally the suspects are detained he will have a lot of the answers. >> richard engel, thanks. sean, as well. in the wake of all of this both presidential candidates are speaking out about national security with the election 50 days away. so here is the state of the race right now. hillary clinton is holding a news conference right now, before heading to philadelphia where she'll address young voters at temple university. she'll meet with several world leaders at the united nations general assembly, that takes place here in new york, including the president of egypt, don at trump planning to sit down with the ejimtion leader today. first he will hold a rally in florida, his third visit to that state in recent weeks. peter alexander is at trump tower down the road from us. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. 50 days until the election, exactly one week until the first debate. and responses over the course of the weekend offering a real time point and counter point between the candidates. hillary clinton and donald trump demonstrating striking differences on style and strategies on issues of national security. after the explosions the sharp contrast from the candidates' responses. >> before i got off the plane a bomb went off in new york. >> reporter: donald trump quick to react even before new york city police identified what happened. >> nobody knows exactly what's going on but boy, we are living in a time we better get very tough, folks. >> reporter: later turning heads with the tone of his tweet expressing warmest regards, best wishes and condolences to the bombing victims and their families. hillary clinton's initial response more measured. >> i think it's always wiser to wait until you have information before making conclusions. >> reporter: later condemning the apparent terrorist attacks urging americans to choose resolve over fear. the nation remains bitterly divided. more people believe clinton would make a better commander in chief but trump is more trusted on terror. he is fending off criticism from another leading republican, robert gates, the former defense secretary under presidents obama and bush. gates calling on clinton to address her trustworthiness deficit but trump beyond repair and unfit to be but said it might be necessary. matt. >> peter alexander, thank you. another big story we're following, a major pipe line leak in alabama, fueling a spike in gas prices across the east coast and the south. colonial pipe line's line 1 from texas to new york harbor supplying 40% of the fuel to the east coast. a quarter million gallon leak was discovered last week forcing it to shut down. fuel supplies in at least five southern states are threatped by the spill. experts project prices will go up by as much as 20 cents per gallon. the company is constructing a bypass around the leak site. cell phone video showing the moment when a small plane with an apparent engine fire fell from the sky near phoenix, arizona. it crashed into a house. two people were home at the time. they were not hurt. the plane's four passengers were all skydivers who managed to parachute to safety. the pilot was a skydiver. he was taken to the hospital with minor burns. and movie fans are remembering actress charmain carr who played leasele von trap in the sound of music known for the song 16 going on 17. carr co-wrote two books about the classic and frequently attended fan sing along events. she was also an interior designer with michael jackson among her clients. carr died saturday in los angeles from complications of a rare form of dementia. she was 73 years old. gottal here. >> a lot of wet weather morning where a massive manhunt is under way in the new york area for this man here, he is 28-year-old ahmad rahami, sought in connection with bombings in new york and new jersey over the last 48 hours. we know that he is a naturalized u.s. citizen, his last known address in elizabeth, new jersey, that address was searched by agents this morning. we want to get back to nbc justice correspondent pete williams. let's walk people through who may be joining us now, how did they come up with this guy as a suspect? >> right. they have been hunting for him about 14 hours now and decided to make his name public a short time ago to get help finding him. they say that he can be seen in surveillance video from both the new york city locations where bombs were planted saturday night. in fact, this is a still frame from the surveillance video released by the new jersey state police just a short time ago. but another key piece of evidence they tell us this morning was a fingerprint found on one of the unexploded bombs, and they say other key information came from the cell phones that were found attached to two of the unexploded devices. so clearly, the bomber thought that everything would be blown up, the cell phones destroyed, but two of them did not go off. they have been able to exploit that. so, the family home was searched overnight in new jersey, members of his family were stopped and questioned, we're told that's over. and police are now on the lookout for his car, 2003 blue honda civic with new jersey plates. >> and prior to this, pete, had he come to the attention of law enforcement in any way? >> reporter: in some minor way i'm told. i'm not sure of the details but he was not on any kind of watch list. as for whether others were involved, officials say they believe he was the only one involved in the bombings but they are now trying to figure out whether he had help. >> and obviously in talking to his five family members who were stopped in that car on the verrazano bridge they would be asking those family members about any known associates that he would have. >> reporter: yes. the other question of course is whether this was directed or inspired by isis, whether there is an overseas connection and a senior official tells me they are a long way from knowing the answers to those questions. >> all right. pete williams, as always, thank you. tom costello is following the investigation and concerns over how easy it is to make these kinds of bombs. tom, go morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. so we're standing in the exact spot where that unexploded home made bomb was discovered and the surveillance, video, captured rahami in this area. so what is really of interest here to many bomb experts there does seem to be similarities in design, at least to the boston marathon bombing, 3 1/2 years ago. overnight another explosion in new jersey. after a police robot examined a back pack that appeared to contain pipe bombs left near a train station. the incident coming as investigators are looking into similarities between the weekend's bombings and attempted bombings in new jersey and new york. perhaps the best clues left right in the middle of the street saturday night, an unexploded home made pressure cooker bomb with an old fashioned flip phone attached to the top. investigators are closely examining video of someone rolling it down the street in a suit case before walking away. likely the same type of bomb that went off a few blocks away injuring 29. and another that went off in a trash can in new jersey. all three bearing similarities to the pressure cooker bombs that went off at the boston marathon on 2013, killing three and injuring 264. for the nypd, the unexploded bomb could mean the bomber or bombers have left behind a gold mine of evidence. fingerprints, wires, soldering, the phones and the numbers dialed and received. >> i want to be trying to track the bomb components back to the purchase place to where the cell phones were bought or the bomb components or any of the explosive materials. track it back as fast as i can. the bombers are loose. >> reporter: the bomb that did go off shattered windows and fired shrapnel at cars and people passing by. one woman struck in the arm, another bleeding heavily. >> we will find whoever did this or whatever group did this, and they will be brought to justice. >> reporter: explosives experts say the bomb's design is similar to the instructions al qaeda provides would-be terrorists in its magazine. new york officials stress so far there is no known link to international terrorism. this morning with world leaders gathering in new york for the u.n. general assembly, the city is waking up under an even tighter security blanket, more than 1,000 extra officers and national guard troops on duty. >> coming here it's pretty scary. >> nerve-racking. you got to go about your business so what you going to do. >> reporter: even with the fbi questioning five people this morning after authorities stopped a vehicle of interest crossing a bridge heading into new york, the concern at least one bomber and maybe more are still on the loose. >> bomber is not experienced, with early in their bomb career but they have a lot of tee sire to kill but haven't been able to kill as of yet. >> reporter: so the fact that rahami allegedly may have constructed these bombs, yet at least two failed to detonate, is critical in them being able to gather the information and link those to the suspect. they took the bomb discovered here as well as the fragments of the other pieces of bomb, they had to detonate the one that was here, they took everything to virginia, the fbi lab in quantico to try to gather as much information as they can. matt, back to you. >> tom for us in new york. let us put that picture up. this is the suspect, ahmad khan rahami. the fbi wants to find this man, considered armed and dangerous. if you recognize nim or you see him, do not approach him yourself. call your local law enforcement or the fbi. let's give al a kpans to give us a check of the weather. >> if you are heading east, we've got a lot of wet weather along the eastern school board so airport delays at laguardia, jfk, washington, d.c., and philadelphia. so keep that in mind as you travel. as you look out west, we've got some moisture coming up from hurricane paine. things looking pretty high and dry out west. in fact, the only real showers we're going to look at today, cool in seattle, 65 degrees, everyone else temperatures at or above normal. that's going to be the case for a good portion of this week until the latter part of the week. temperatures will calm down. but as we also look at today, you can see those showers in the pacific northwest, sunny and hot through texas. some morning fog, southern california that will burn off and then plenty of sunshine. here's the big problem along the eastern seaboard. heavy rain from new england all the way down into the mid atlantic states. let's look at the week ahead. again, that wet weather along the eastern seaboard starting off for today. we've got wet weather in the pacific northwest, as we move into the midweek period more wet weather, heavier showers and thunderstorms around the plains, and the upper midwest, sunshine in the northeast. a little on the wet side as the moisture from paine continues to make its way and continues to be felt and look toward the end of the week, a lot of heavy showers and thunderstorms through the northern plains, wet weather through the four corners. along the west coast gorgeous weather, showers in northern new england and the southeast, and you can see temperatures stay warm right into the midw good monday morning to you. was he on the radar at all? >> not that we've heard. no. they don't -- i've not heard that he was. but if you step back for a second, this thing has moved remarkably fast. we just had these bomb planted over the weekend. they already have a person of interest here. this is an extremely rapidly moving investigation. pened over weekend and they already have a person of interest here. >> alerts going on off cell phones in this area. pete williams, thaurnk you. another incident being investigated as a potential act of terror by the fbi, a stabbing attack at a mall in minnesota. at least nine people injured before that suspect was then shot and killed. >> reporter: good morning, matt. the fbi was asked was this suspect on their radar. they said at this point in the investigation, it's too early to comment. did searches of the suspect's apartment recovering computer equipment and several bags of potential evidence. the suspect's father told "the minneapolis star tribune" his son was a somalian student in his twoents. while an online message with a group linked to isis says the attacker was a soldier for isis, but there is no solid evidence to verify that claim. in this town home to hundreds of somali refugees, community leaders are speaking out against the violence and fear the possibility of anti-muslim backlash. >> this community does not condone terrorism, does not support terrorism. >> reporter: one by one, stretchers streamed out of a minnesota mall. >> shots fired and people stabbed. >> reporter: victims of a stabbing rampage at the hands of a suspect dressed in a security uniform attacking at least nine people with a knife. >> everybody locked their doors and took off running. >> reporter: inside the mall, a lockdown for hours as police tried to calm the nerves of hundreds of shoppers caught in the chaos. >> it is going to take a while. >> reporter: witnesses say the suspect yelled about allah and islam during the attack. >> he just charged me with a knife and he said are you a muslim? are you a muslim? >> reporter: police say the man with a knife stabbed nine men and women aged 15 through 53 before being confronted by an off-duty officer about five minutes into the spree. >> if not for him being there this clearly would have been much worse than it was. >> reporter: now the fbi is looking into this case as a potential act of terror. we are now being told that all nine victims have been released from the hospital. all of them are expected to make a full recovery. matt and savannah? a challenge. >> well, good morning. >> reporter: i'm on the road 200 days a year. which means lots of restaurants. >> the kind of things they have on the menu here are eggs benedi benedict, design your own omelet. ham and cheese. all the sort of things that joy says i should not eat. >> reporter: what i could eat based on the diet's criteria -- "today's" nutritionist joy bauer created a meal plan. two hard boiled eggs, slice of tomato and a cup of berries. later on the day on a run at the airport in charlotte -- >> gelato. i hear it yelling my name. tacos. tacos. i want to eat a taco. >> i haven't had much to eat. while i haven't been hangry yet, i'm beginning to get a little upset. this is not fun. >> reporter: my 300-calorie meal -- bland broccoli and just a portion of the meat. >> piece of chicken that fits in the palm of my hand. >> reporter: but in the first week i lost -- three pounds. week two, alternate days i ate normally one day, they n fasted the next day, eating fewer than 600 calories on those days. one of those days i was covering breaking news in milwaukee. my 300 calorie meal -- peanut butter on a rice cake with a banana and a cup of plain greek yogurt. >> this is a special report. we have breaking news on the investigation into this weekend's bombings in new york and "insurgent." here is the president. >> governors cuomo and christie as well as mayor de blasio. we've seen apparently a pipe bomb go off in new jersey, seaside park where it could have seriously injured our u.s. marines and spectators who were there for a race, the bombing in the chelsea neighborhood injured more than two dozen people. we are extremely fortunate and grateful that nobody was killed and our prayers go out to all of those who have been injured. we want to wish them a speedy recovery. i especially want to commend all the outstanding police and first responders in both new york city and new jersey for their extraordinary professionalism and their quick response, which surely prevented even more people from being hurt. and ensured people got assistance quickly. the investigation is moving rapidly, as is my practice i'm going to leave it to fbi and law enforcement to provide details. i think everybody is aware at this point there is a person of interest, who is the focus of the investigation. and the fbi can give you further details in terms of how that is proceeding. i told governors cuomo and christie and mayor de blasio that they and their teams will continue to have all federal support as they move ahead with their investigations, tracking down every lead and working to keep the people of this city and this region safe. law enforcement is asking for the help of the community. everybody in this region, i want to repeat what we've said before. if you see something suspicious, then you need to say something. contact local law enforcement. in the meantime, i would ask that the press try to refrain from getting out ahead of the investigation. i am extraordinarily happy with the cooperation that's been taking place between the fbi and state and local law enforcement official. they are moving smartly on this investigati investigation. it does not help if false reports or incomplete information is out there. try to as much as possible stick to what our investigators say because they actually know what they are talking about. meanwhile, i know that the united nations meetings here every year already create an additional workload for new york, but given the u.n. meetings we also have a particularly high level of federal resources here to help as needed. we want to make sure everybody is working together seamlessly to get to the bottom of what happened, to find those responsible and make sure justice is done. meanwhile, while all this is going on in new york and new jersey, we're also focused on the stabbing attack at the shopping mall in minnesota. at this point we see no connection between that incident and what happened in new york and new jersey. our attention there is on the people injured. we are very grateful that no one lost their life, thanks to the quick action of a brave off duty police officer, the suspect was killed and we avoided more people being hurt. i had a chance also to speak with governor dayton this morning. i assured him that we will provide all the assistance that he needs in the investigation. the fbi is investigating the minnesota incident as a potential act of terrorism. we will direct the full resources of the federal government to make sure the investigation goes forward aggressively. finally, i want to take the opportunity to reassure the people in this city, this region and americans across our country that our counter-terrorism and law enforcement professionals at every level, federal, state, and local, are working together around the clock to prevent attacks and to keep us safe. they are the best of the best. over the years they have thwarted many plots and saved many lives. we are incredibly grateful for their service today and every single day. we will continue to lead the global coalition on the fight to destroy isil, which is instigating a lot of people over the internet to carry out attacks. we are going to continue to go after them. we're going to take out their leaders, infrastructure. they are continuing to lose ground in iraq and syria. later today i'll meet with prime minister abadi in iraq to sustain that momentum. as we take away more territory it exposes isil as the failed group it is. it will make it harder to recruit and inspire people to violence. we're going to continue to enlist tech companies and community and religious leaders to push back on online content and all messages of hate. you know, at moments like this, i think it's important to remember what terrorists and violent extremists are trying to do. they are trying to hurt innocent people, but they also want to inspire fear in all of us and disrupt the way we live, undermine our values. and so even as we have to be vigilant and aggressive both in preventing senseless acts of violence but also making sure that we find those who carry out such acts and bring them to justice, we all have a role to play as citizens in making sure that we don't succumb to that fear. and there's no better example of that than the people of new york and new jersey. when i was speaking to governor cuomo and governor christie and mayor de blasio, one appoint that they all made is, folks around here, you know, they do not get scared. they are tough. they are resilient. they go about their business every single day. that kind of toughness and resolute ne resoluteness and the recognition neither individuals nor organizations like isil can ultimately undermine our way of life, that's the kind of strength that makes me so proud to be an american, and that's the kind of strength that's going to be absolutely critical, not just in the days to come but in the years to come. by showing those who want to do us harm that they will never beat us, by showing the entire world that as americans we do not and never will give in to fear, that's going to be the most important ingredient in us defeating those who would carry out terrorist acts against us. thank you very much, everybody, as i said you will be receiving, i'm sure, ongoing briefings from both fbi and local law enforcement in terms of the details of the investigation. >> president obama in new york for u.n. general assembly meeting. i want to get right to our justice correspondent pete williams. if you notice on the bottom of the screen we do have breaking news as that press conference was happening. pete, what do we know? >> i'm not even sure the president was aware of this, kate, as he was speaking but several law enforcement officials at fed, state and local officials ahmad khan rahami was captured a short time ago in linden, new jersey, which is about four miles away from linden, new jersey where he was apparently living and where those pipe bombs were found and detonated this morning. we're told that about sometime between 10:30 and 11:00, there was a shoot-out between rahami, who is seen here in a still picture that new jersey police say was from the surveillance video at the new york bombing scenes. of the surveillance videos at the new york bombing scenes. they say he was in a shoot-out with police in linden, new jersey. a short time later they called for the bomb squad. he was apparently wounded in that shooting and has been taken to a nearby hospital. we don't know his condition. but this is breathtakingly fast here, kate. just this morning at about, oh, 7:30 or so, the police made his name public after they'd been searching for him from the previous 15 hours or so. based on what i am told is a mul multiple evidence. timing devices on the flip phones had numbers that police were able to follow through on. then the surveillance video. all of these things added together led to him. after they couldn't find him after searching his house, questioning members of his family, they decided to make his name public, and less than three hours later he was involved in a shoot-out with police. and three and a half hours later he was in custody. so an astonishingly fast development here, kate. >> remarkable how quickly this is all moving. the pictures that we're showing are all of the same individual now in custody. pete, do your sources, law enforcement, think there might be others vord or are they fairly convinced this is the sole person behind these incidents over the weekend? >> that is unknown to them. of course they believe he is involved. as to whether others are involved, too soon to say. no conclusion reached on that. they don't know whether this is all the work of one person, whether someone else was involved. they just don't know that. >> all right, pete williams following all of this for us. "nbc nightly news." i'm kate snow in new york. this has been an nbc news "special report." for a marathon. when is it okay to bleach or dye your hair? >> this is a biggie. women, if you think about it, nine months they're like can i do my hair or not? we want women to know that they can do hair treatments. when we think about the chemicals that they are exposed to, they're really not that toxic. there's also that assumption people think it is absorbed by the blood stream. it's not. you can use semi-permanent dyes or henna. or best case scenario, if you're really worried, don't do any hair treatments during pregnancy or wait until after the first trimester, which is the first 12 to 13 weeks. >> okay. herary te ar here's a big one. when is it okay to have a glass of wine? >> as a health care provider we generally recommend do not take any alcohol during the pregnancy. the reason is we know there is fetal alcohol syndrome which is the most preventable form of mental retardation. if you don't want any risk at all, don't put yourself at risk. women do metabolize alcohol differently. >> we don't know how much would cause fetal alcohol syndrome. >> absolutely. >> when is it okay to take pain medicine and what kind? >> yes. so pain obviously during pregnancy can become an issue. we want to know as a health care provider is it pain that started before? did you have a history of migraine headaches? or is it something that's new in pregnancy. if it is new and you are masking that pain, that may hide some diseases or conditions during pregnancy. mild pain, we usually recommend for you to take acetaminophen and not ibuprofen because we don't want to affect the baby's kidneys, the amniotic fluid levels. if you are taking narcotics, make sure you do that under the guidance of your health care provider. >> that's some strong stuff. >> can be. >> finally, the question of all -- when is it okay to head to the hospital to have this baby? >> this was your question. you were like when can i go to the hospital. some of the key factors as you get towards that time when you are 40 weeks, which is, again, term, obviously if tu break your bag of water which is a sudden gush of fluid. or maybe sometimes a constant trickle, then go to the hospital and be evaluated. fetal movement. if you find the baby is not moving as much as you like, then you really want to pay close attention to it. if it seems to become more of an issue, talk to your health care provider. bleeding is also a big factor that we want to make sure you aren't bleeding too much. coming close to the end of pregnancy you may have a little bit of spotting. but heavy bleeding, weep want to make sure there is no placental issues. and contractions. five minutes apart or less. >> when in doubt, call land's memoir. just an amazing story about m s masculinity and what that looks like today and his journey through fraternity culture and his experience with hazing which really got out of hand. i knew the role would challenge me and make me grow. >> you mentioned hazing. you don't think this is an indictment on the fraternity culture in general, but you do want this movie to shine a light on one particular aspect of that. >> yeah. i think that all of us were really conscious of making sure that we didn't make a movie that was an indictment of fraternity culture because there is a lot of good things in it. even in filming the movie, being around the other brothers, both biological brother and the brothers in the fraternity, you see that there are some things that can help you grow and become a better person. but a lot things that make it challenging. >> almost every college and university in this country has cracked down hard on some of the hazing practices that in the past had been part of pledging a fraternity. and yet it seems as if these things continue to make headlines almost every year. why do you think it remains intact? >> you know, i can only speak to my experience in making the movie. i didn't have a traditional college experience. what i saw was that when you get a bunch of young men together without any real consequences for their actions, it is kind of a battle to be alpha and be the best and bad things happen in that scenario. my little brother just started college this year. i said look, man, before you decide to pledge to a fraternity i would love for you to see this movie just pass a bit of an educational tool, something to say that's the case scenario. >> go in with eyes wide open. >> exactly. >> if you were in college now you would be a 24-year-old freshman. you just had a birthday. >> i did. couple days ago. >> what did you do? >> had a show in phoenix. just wrapped up a tour with demi lovato. did 42 cities in like nine weeks. last show was in l.a. two days ago. i kind of celebrated my birthday there with friends and celebrated with a great tour. >> how about the jonas brothers in terms of new music and any chance of reunion? >> joe's doing really well with his band now, dnc. they actually popped up and surprised the audience in l.a. >> we had them here. >> i saw. it was awesome. and kevin's doing well with his new business >> it is a higher smoking point. literally want to burn as much as i can the scallions and really char it on the outside. use everything, too. the good thing with the scallions, the burn you burn it, the sweeter that's going to get. as that starts to char, you kind of see this here. that's been grilled. we'll just chop everything up. >> you eat the little fuzzy things? >> oh, yeah. keep it on there. there is no reason to do a dice or anything like that. just chop it up. this is kind of the base. i like to have the texture of this because to me this is the whole point of why this vinaigrette is really delicious in some applications. so scallions are going to go in. as that's sort of going around, add some yuzu. >> what is yuzu? >> it is a japanese scitrus. lemon and lime married together. if you don't have it. little bit of lemon, little bit of lime. sesame oil. some chopped garlic. some chopped ginger. little bit of soy sauce. >> you can use low sodium if you want. >> exactly. grape a little bit more grapeseed oil. go ahead. you don't have to do the emulsification. you don't have to whisk it. this is really, really simple. then we'll start to come over here with the fish. this is the snapper. typically, i don't like to season the skin side. >> really. >> i just do the flesh side. if you add a lot of salt to the skin side it takes the moisture out so it tends to give you a less crispy skin. i know billy loves this crispy skin. >> on chicken the skin is very fattening. is it?
