Super bowls in history. The deflate gate and tom brady. Footballs in this game set to receive unpress departmented security. Savannah and al are live in phoenix today friday, january 30, 2015. Announcer from nbc news this is a special edition of today at the super bowl. With matt lauer, live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza, and Savannah Guthrie live from phoenix, arizona. Good morning. Welcome to today on friday morning im matt lauer with tamron hall. Savannah and al are in phoenix getting ready for super bowl xlix. Savannah, whats with the down coat. Is it that cold out there . Its not that cold. Its rainy. I cant believe it. Its chilly. You can see your breath. Its been raining unusually wet. Yes. So you are well within your rights. The weather is a little bit i guess leaving a little to be desired. And weve been taking turns washing watching the footballs for the nfl. Is so i wont get fined. Apparently not. Al, weve got a big storm out east. We do. And thats our top story. Weve got another snowstorm that is going to blanket the northeast. As you take a look were watching this, and it is going to be bringing a real mess. And then theres a second storm coming back in. The rain thats here is going to make its way across the country causing major problems. Weve got dylan dreyer in stanford, maine. Good morning. What do you see . Reporter im seeing more snow, savannah. Thats on top of the 32 1 2 inches of snow this area picked up from the blizzard. Thats the highest total all across the state of maine. Now, i started off the week with my yard stick. It was too big to measure the 2 inches in pittsburgh but now its not each close to being big enough to measure these mounds of snow piling u. Crews have been working around the clock to just put the snow anywhere they cap. The mountains are grow, and storm weary residents and crews have another six to 12 inches of snow to deal with. I couldnt have done this week without the blue mobile. We started in pittsburgh earlier on monday when the storm was in its infancy. We met up with the blue mobile to get us through the snowy streets of boston. My crew got us to nantucket amend here we are in stanford, maine. New storm, more snow. Matt. Dylan, thank you. Meantime, the fate of two isis hostages uncertain this morning, a day after a deadline passed for a prisoner swap to secure their freedom. Nbcs bill neely is in amman, jordan. Good morning to you. Reporter good morning, matt. Im outside japans embassy in jordan where the vigil, the wait continues. Two nations a world apart but yew united in horror at this hostage crisis. Anger and anguish in jordan, no deal for their hostage, for his family its overwhelming. They are desperate for the life of this pilot to be spared. The terror group isis which is holding him says it will, if this woman is freed. Shes a failed suicide bomber on jordans death row. But its threatening to kill this japanese journalist if the deal isnt done. The deadline at this Border Crossing has passed, jordan is demanding proof from the terrorists. We have asked for a proof of life and we have not received anything as of yet. Reporter japan is in shock, isis has killed one japanese hostage already, the mother of the latest kenji goto pleaded for her son as did his wife. I fear that this is the last chance for my husband. I hope our oldest daughter who is just 2 will get to see her father again. Reporter japan says it wont do deals with terrorists, but its clear jordan is ready to swap for thepy lot. She was part of a gang that killed 60 people ten years ago. Her suicide belt failed to detonate. This is an ordeal for the pilots family as the sun set deadline was followed by silence. And still no word this morning from the kidnappers, isis, japan and jordan say they are working closely and round the clock to find out what on earth is happening with the lives of their hostages are still hanging in the balance. Bill, thank you very much. Excruciating for the families. Now to a story out of los angeles overnight. A deadly hitandrun involving notorious rap mogul suge knight. Betty nguyen is here with the latest. Good morning to you. Reporter good morning. Knight is no stranger to runins with the police. He is under arrest on suspicion of murder. What was the fight about . Can you say anything about the allegations against you . Reporter suge knight surrendered for questioning this morning after allegedly running two men over with his truck, injuring one and killing the other. Authorities claim that the mogul plowed into a group of people in compton thursday, shortly after an argument. It looks like he drove backwards and struck the victims and went forward and struck them again. Reporter his truck was found in an empty parking lot. People we talked to said it looked intentional so were handling it as a homicide. Reporter his Attorney Says his client was being attacked and in an effort to escape he hit two other people. There is an investigation going on. Let the Sheriffs Department conduct their investigation. Reporter suge knight is known for cofounding Death Row Records in 1991, one of the biggest hiphop label, launching the careers of popular rappers like snoop dogg. He has a history of legal troubles. He served for years for violating probation from a previous assault, returning to prison again in 2003 for assaulting a parking lot attendant. Just last year he survived being shot multiple times a it a hollywood nightclub, if if convicted in this latest incident suge knight could face up to 30 years in prison. Authorities say the hit yamd run happened after a shoot for an upcoming movie. Still no details on what started the argument. Betty, thank you. Theres new information this morning on the Measles Outbreak tied to disney theme parks in california. More cases are diagnosed, Health Officials believe they know how this began. Dr. Natalie azar is a news contributor. They say this was probably brought to the United States by a foreign tourist who went to the theme park and then spread the virus. Why is that significant . I dont know how much its going to we cant close our borders, were not going to have the same conversation as with ebola. This is issue is that internationally we are certainly seeing much lower vaccination rates than were seeing here. We said from the beginning that our outbreaks in this country are due to two things, importing these cases from abroord as well as our nonvaccination rates. Its prompted dramatic action from a doctor in california who says he will no longer treat any patients at his practice who have not been vax nalted for measles. He says this, quote. Parents who choose not to give measles shots they are not just putting their kids at risk, they are putting other kids at risk especiallien my waiting room. Howe do you 2350e8 . Its a very inflammatory comment. Legally we are bound to treat patients and we cant discriminate on the basis of philosophical or religious beliefs, that is my first comment. His concern about saying that these unvaccinated children could potentially expose other people in the practice, is incredibly important and valid. So i think this opens up a discussion and i think its something that the medical community as a whole is going to have to grapple with. A lot are going to talk about this. Before i let you go there are face caises in phoenix where the super bowl is. Should people be concerned if they are going . If you are unvax nalted you better think twice about going. What is a wha a measle virus loves, a lot of people in close quarters, this is exactly the kind of atmosphere that a virus can spread. If you have Young Children and not vaccinated you have to stay home. Obviously this applies to adults as wet. We get more emotional when it comes to children. People have to be aware. They are making preparations, they say we have measles outposts and looking for people who might have the tell tale rash, et cetera. Its a big deal. Natalie azar, thanks so much. Good to see you. Natalie is only assignment. Tamron is in with the headlines. Good morning. The taliban is claiming responsibility for an attack in which a gunman shot and killed three American Contractors and one afghan man. It happened thursday in military section of the kabul airport. The taliban fighter wore an Afghan Police uniform and infiltrated the ranks of Afghan Forces to stage that attack. A showdown on capitol hill thursday after some protesters interrupted a hearing, just before former secretary of state Henry Kissinger was to testify about global challenges. Arrest Henry Kissinger for war crimes. The disruption lasted about two minutes. Officers led them away. Senator mccain apologized to kissinger and lashed out. You know, youre going to have to shut up or im going to have you arrested. If we cant get the Capitol Hill Police in here, immediately. Get out of here you low life scum. The incident raised questions how the demonstrators could get so close to kissinger without being stopped by security or police. Some tense moments on a boston commuter train thursday after a train car filled up with smoke. Cell phone video shows a man smashing a train window and several passengers climbing out. Apparently they had trouble getting the door open, the Transit Authority blamed the smoke on a propulsion system failure and there was no cause for kernel or danger. A jockey is facing felony charges accused of zapping a horse with a buzzer during a race. Officials say it happened earlier this month at the Sam Houston Race Park in texas, 43yearold roman chapa won the race. It looks like he is holding something in his left hand. Buzzers are used to send an electrical shock through the horse making the animal run faster. If convicted chapa faces up to ten years in jail. A happy ending this morning for a koala bear we told you about earlier this month. The bear nicknamed jeremy, he gained attention after being pictured receiving treatment for his burned paws. He made a full recovery and released back in the wild. Jeremy was injured in a bush fire. A photograph of him lying with all four paws soaked in a medical solution was shared on social media. Matt, as you well know there was a campaign to knit gloves or other koalas but he is better and back in the wild. Thats a good outcome. It is. The cutest ugliest things in the world. They are really kult. Until you realize they are wild. Thank you very much. Back out to al in phoenix, mr. Roker. Hey, well, weve got this storm system thats causing rain here in phoenix. Its going to spread across the country. Heres where it starts off. Weve got wet weather today in to friday through saturday as it makes its way were watching rain and then icy mix develop, from st. Louis, chicago, spreads to snow, cleveland by sunday morning we are looking at this spreading into new york. Sunday afternoon it makes its way further to the east, and we are talking generally by sunday night about 3 to 9 inches of snow that will continue into monday into the northeast with some places picking up a foot or more. Well continue to track this throughout the day. Were going to get to your local forecast coming up in the next 30 seconds. For better or worse, in sickness and in health. I cant what . Lisa wait ahh god taxes are your year, only much simpler. You can handle simpler. Intuit turbotax. Its amazing what youre capable of. Happy friday to you. Im meteorologist christina loren. We have a little bit of fog developing out there but a really nice finish to the day and to the week coming your way. 54 degrees in San Francisco, 42 degrees right now on the east shore, and were looking towards 67 degrees on the peninsula later on today. 68 for us here in the south bay. With patriots die hards and seattles 12th manpowering into arizona, the frenzy that only the super bowl can forge is growing as we all countdown to kickoff. The excitement wont end in the stands. Defending champion Russell Wilson okay looking to lead his team to backtoback titles know what is makes footballs biggest stage so exceptional. The super bowl. Its the greatest moment there is in terms of sports. So there will be a lot more lights, more action. Its appreciation not lost on his new england counterpart tom brady, back for an nfl record sixth super bowl appearance. Its really a privilege. I dont never take these things for granted. Part of what makes sundays game unique is the presence of a massive alist including halftime headliner katy perry who will help take minds off the patriots recent controversy. I think i can assure everyone here that nothing in my performance will be deflated. To see wilson, brady, perry and the entire spectacle from inside the university of phoenix stadium may cost the most in the games 50year history. The cheapest ticket now going for over seven grand. Last year there would have been 4,000 Tickets Available at this time. Today there, 200, 300 on the entire marketplace. Even more expensive Super Bowl Ad time, a 30second spot for expected audience of over 110 million viewers, is going for 4. 5 million. Hi, im kim. For Many Companies its a Winning Ticket with so much of america tuning in to see which team will hoist the lombardi trophy. And there is a real sense that we are truly going to see the two best teams play on sunday in the seahawks and the patriots. Walking around the city were not just talking about fans descending from new england and seattle. They are of course coming from all around the country, really all around the globe. So much excitement especially folks from the Greater Pittsburgh area, savannah, all come, i believe, to see that man. Yeah, glad you gave me a good segway over to hines ward. Two super bowls himself, mvp in one of them for the steelers. Now we have your resume. First of all lets do deflategate. A head of owe feshfficiating gauged the footballs before the game but that wouldnt have been recorded or we dont know what the measurements are. Does this strans the story . Are we like we dont know. We dont know what happened. Still up in the air. I think for the players theyre not thinking about it because they know there is nothing thats going to happen before the super bowl. So now its all about getting to the last day of preparation, preparing for the super bowl on sunday. And but for the league, the best Case Scenario for the league is to have a Seattle Seahawks win this game. That way they dont have to deal with all of the chaos after. Say more. Roger goodell is going to have his News Conference today. I found it interesting that you feel like it would be better for the league in terms pufting it behind him if you had a seahawks win. Correct. They probably wont say it out publicly but they have to be cheering for the seahawks to win this game. That way they dont have to deal with all of the issues. Take us into what the players preparation is like and also the butterflies they may be feeling. Youve been there. Yes. Its not one of those this is another game. No its not just another game. Friday is your last day of preparation. Saturday a lot of teams move to another hotel, and really just try to get concentrated on the super bowl sunday. Regardless how you want to prepare its still the super bowl. Its the biggest game in the world for a lot of players what they dream about as a child. I know going into the game i couldnt sleep the night before. Looking at the clock and its 12 00, look over. Its 12 15, its 12 20. Man, just want to go to sleep. Youre replaying and visualizing what type of plays youll make. You were mvp. Imagine if you had gotten a good nights sleep before what you could have done. Exactly. I want to say its not often you are outiced on your own set. Look at that. I normally dont bring these out. Normally awalk around. I yawn. But these this is what its all about. To put yourself in the position to go out and get a super bowl ring. I was blessed to play in three super bowls, won two and named mvp so life is good. Blessed. Do you have a prediction . Im going with seattle. Just because of the defense. I think they really can control. But tom brady, to get this black cloud from his head he wants to throw the ball 50 times and have an impact on this game. I feel he has a lot to prove. Good to see you and your bling. Catch super bowl 49 here on nbc. Well have a lot more from phoenix coming up. Now back to matt in new york. Ask him who designed one of those super bowl rings. Did you hear that . Matt wants to know who designed one of those . I designed the bigger one. Nice. He actually did. Very cool. Good to see you. Savannah, thank you. Josh, thank you. Sheinelle jones is in with another story tied to this game getting a lot of attention. It is. With the super bowl this sunday you could say players from both the patriots and the sauks are preparing for the biggest event of their lives. The super bowl is a big deal but so is having a baby. We all know babies come whenever they want to. So lets talk about seahawks quarterback richard sherman. He could potentially have conflicting celebrations. His girlfriend ashley moss is due to give birth to the couples first son early february. She is in arizona right now to cheer on sunday. Many have been asking what would he do if she goes into labor during the game. Heres what he said on thursday. Im focused on the game right now. Hes not supposed to come on sunday. Obviously that change some th
