>> i call this the digital desire moment. people take out their smartphone, start taking pictures of all the kids at the birthday party. seems to be fine but they post it online. you haven't asked consent for all the minors to be into the picture. i think people think about this and ask. >> sign a waiver at the door. >> you can ask, don't assume. if you're taking pictures, i might post these, is this okay? if one person says no, then consider it a no and only post pictures of your own child. >> but the child is with all the kids at the birthday party. >> let's say there is, like, a recital or something, your kid is tap dancing and other kids around. >> i think schools and organizations have to look at this. it is not like the old days when somebody had a picture and you say can i get a copy of this? now it is there. >> the concern is what? >> what is the concern? they're not tagging them and saying who it is and where it was and where they live or anything like that, what is the harm? >> some people are doing all of that, but if they aren't, you're saying, what could be going wrong? number one, don't want photos of your kids in bikinis or in the tub or anything like that. polar end of the spectrum is pedophiles could get a hold of that or show up on sites where you're being associated with pornography and things of that nature. on the other end of the spectrum, you're not getting a chance to build your own online reputation, it is being made for you. >> i think there is a question of misuse and abuse. it also is -- we can teach our kids to be responsible for themselves, online and offline and that's a start. you are responsible for this body you have. and certainly how it is portrayed. >> let's talk about -- okay. when someone takes a picture and we hate it, and it is -- >> that's the world we live in. >> let's say you're at the pool and someone snaps a picture of you, you're out at the beach and someone snaps a picture and it is online and it is unflattering and you want to take it down -- >> i want that up everywhere. that's the last time i looked good. that's the last time. that's the last time. and i enjoy the memory. >> pretend for a minute it was me. so how do you get it off? how do you take it down? >> ask your friend to take it down. if they say no, maybe -- >> what if she won't? she keeps putting it up. >> you need to approach this with caution. if you demand they take it down they may fight back with that, why. if you ask for a favor, look, i'm not comfortable having my pictures on the internet, could you do me a favor and take it off for me. >> by that time, other people could have already -- it is already out there. >> that's the rule of thumb. anything online, even a private facebook page or private tumblr account, if one friend decides to share that was into your account, if one friend decides to share that, it can get out. >> so many kids in college are drunk when they're taking pictures. they're not in their right mind and their minds have not even developed their frontal lobe yet. >> that's right. but i think if someone asks you to take it down, take it down. my daughter will look at photos and say don't post that. and i don't. >> it is also no fun anymore because everyone is like, i don't look good, i don't like that. >> that's instant gratification. you go right through, look to see if you got a great shot and post it. you are in control -- >> what if it is a great shot of you and not the other person. >> that's all that matters. >> thank you. >> thank you, all, very, very much. great advice for soon to be college grads trying to figure out what's next. guess who's with us? >> down there, but loosely. and look how much she -- she completes the look, notice the pale complexion and the red lip. >> the red lip. >> that smoky eye. >> she always has a heavy line, right. >> do you like taylor? you blew it out and put stuff in it? >> yes. it is mousse. mousse adds volume. so this is slicked back, but soft. then she holds it all in place with spray. >> how did you get the volume up top there? >> last one. >> alimony may be tax deductible by the parent -- payer. >> by the payer? i'm saying true. >> hoda wins. >> here is your prize, hoda. >> aw. >> thank you so much. a college grad meets some successful people. >> katherine schwarzenegger is with us. we love her, coming up after this. >> this is "today" on nbc, hoda. college graduation is a scary time, especially if you have no idea what you're going to do after you get that cap and gown. >> most of us have been there. and here with great advice is katherine schwarzenegger, author of the new book "i just graduated, now what?" >> if her name sounds familiar, that's because katherine is the daughter of maria shriver and arnold schwarzenegger. >> just as gorgeous as your mom. so nice to have you with us. >> and your hair is like hers. >> i know. thank you. >> this is an interesting book. we both think that somebody as famous as your family is, you never have a worry in the world, a care in the world. >> yes. >> couldn't be more wrong, according to this book. >> yes. i graduated almost two years ago from usc and had absolutely no idea what i wanted to do and was terrified of what was going to come next in my life. and i came up with the idea to do this book and interview people that i think my generation would want to hear from and get their advice. >> your second book, by the way, too. you were crazy enough to write one while at usc. you got your degree for communications. you kind of had a sense of what you wanted to do, didn't you? >> i did. but communications as your major can kind of take you in so many different directs which i loved, since i didn't know what i wanted to do next, so it was a great -- >> your generation is kind of different i have to say. i think you guys -- most people in our generation would stay in a job for a long, long, long time. and you guys sort of kind of skip around a little bit. >> yeah. it was -- now you can have eight different jobs by the time you're 30 and that's okay. and you can, you know, go in so many different directions, which is what i really learned from this book in interviewing all the amazing people i interviewed. >> who did you love that you interviewed? >> i loved everyone i interviewed. some of the people i interviewed, my brother suggested to me, my sister suggested to me, i got a lot of different people's input of who to interview. >> jillian michaels said, rejection is god's protection. i thought that was -- your brother patrick is an actor like my daughter, and they get rejected a lot. so that's the one that jumps out at me. look at it that way. it was meant to be. >> i think with everyone's story in the book, interviewed so many amazing people that everyone seemed to have a common theme of everything is meant to be. if you don't get chosen for the job, you know, it is meant to be. >> even your mom, it is funny, she was at your graduation, she said, take a pause, don't freak out, don't go sprinting off. >> not everybody can. >> of course. i think her main point was to really, like, take a moment, say, i graduated college, that's a huge accomplishment and, you know, pay attention to that, don't just run through life like everyone else does. >> now you have a blog. >> yes. >> and a whole website and you're on your path now. >> yes, i'm on my path, but i'm also not as anxious about the unknown as i was when i graduated. i literally was, like, i was freaking out. and just very nervous for my future. >> i remember when i graduated, i didn't have a job for six or eight months and everyone was working and i felt terrible. they were telling me what they were doing and i was sitting around like a blob, it makes you -- it does add anxiety. but i think the book will help alleviate it. >> terrific. each chapter is not so long that you get bogged down in the story, a little inspired. >> yes. >> give mom and dad our love. thanks, sweetie. tomorrow, our guys tell all. >> charlie daniels will sing for us. >> is he >> i'm here to help. you and i will get through this together. ♪
