When cinderella spins from her dress in rags and winds up miraculously in a ball gown, you literally hear a collective gasp in the audience. You can hear my voice, i am this is the best reason in the world to be hoarse. I laughed and cried all weekend long. Ill take my favorite thing because it was part of my weekend. On friday night, some new friends of mine, the clarks from australia, invited me to go to a dinner say it. At hugh jackman and deborralee furness home. You talk about pinch yourself. I met hugh many times through the years and hes the most generous, most gentlemanly star there is. Just no one quite like him. Hes kind to everybody. So i already loved him. Then i met deborra, who had been sick and still got out of a sick bed and greeted everybody so beautifully. I cant say what the dinner was about, because theyre going to be announcing it at the united nations. Probably in the fall. But leave it at this. There are apparently 143 million children without families, orphans in this world. If you put them all together in one place, it would be the ninth biggest nation. They have a plan for that. And they have hearts big enough to actually accomplish it. So i was not only pinching myself, but they so reminded me of paul newman who many of us were blessed to know, who really totally understood the concept of if much is given, much is required. He used every ounce of his celebrity to make the world a better place and raise hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars. Every penny went to newmans own. I was honored. The other thing you pointed out was how hugh jackman looks at his wife. You were talking about this in the makeup room. We all went around the table and said why we were there. I said, i dont know why im here. Im just blessed. But he stood up and basically was sitting across from his wife and started talking about what this woman means to him. And her character. And i every woman in the world and every man at some point in life should have somebody that loves them like that. And just so incredibly proud to be their partner. It was moving. But it put you in a wheelchair, which youre still in, right . Yes. Reaction to medication. Shes a singer. And an actress and very accomplished one. You can tell when you look at her her passion is performing, and it pulled her through some of the toughest days of her life and shes actually going to be singing the song that david and i wrote for her. Yeah, actually, i had to go back to shooting cougar town this season four weeks after giving birth to cricket. Which was a little intense. Was cricket a big baby or she was. She was 8, 5, but i was a big pregnant lady. I gained a lot of weight when i was pregnant and had to go back into work, which was tricky, but she came with me every day to the set. I had a baby nurse. Such a blessing when you can do that. It is amazing. Not every woman can. I know. I would say, if youre going to be a working mom, being an actress on a tv show is not bad. Not a bad way to go. Cougar town, fifth season. Yes. Wow. As you said it, i said wow, it is not about cougars. It is about this place where you all live and the routine the family, the family and friends, the culdesac crew hanging out, drinking wine. You love courteney, right . She was in the midst of a stress eating episode and she looked into the mirror and out loud said, this is ridiculous. I have to stop behaving like this. This was her aha moment. She jumped into action, she downloaded that app, my fitness pal, she started tracking all the foods she ate, she gave herself a caloric range of 1200 to 1500 calories, committed to three days a week of exercise, and shes about to walk out, half her size. One of the cool things i wanted to show you is we talk a lot about weight loss success and variety of foods. Shes done just the opposite. And he gained an exorbitant amount of weight. Hes a paramedic. He was on the ambulance, he got an emergency call, there was a patient, an obese man was stuck in a basement apartment. Him and his three partners on the ambulance had to get this man up on to a stretcher and up a flight of stairs into the ambulance. And andrew could hardly do it. He was gasping, he was weak and he realized at that moment that not only was his own health at risk, so was the Patients Health as well. Here is andrews before picture. All right, andrew. He did it through jenny craig because it was easy for him, meals were delivered, he worked with the consultant and they taught him how to do everything. I grew up in a loving, great family, but critical and i think that they made me who i am today and im very proud but i wanted to help people to have be able to speak a different language. When jeff berates you or how do you react to that inside or do you think it is just part of the shtick and part of the show . You know, i changed. And thats part of the book. I used to take it more personally. And it has been a ride, but i think my life, when i embrace failure, you know, and really said im going to take responsibility, im going to own it rather than put it on him or the situation, it is very freeing. And we are a dysfunctional family. Everyone is. It is. It is a partnership. It is a marriage, anything, it is a lot of work. You have to hang on and enjoy the ride. Yeah. She said during her life as an actress how she would not prepare for your auditions and things and think, i got this, i got this. And the thing i would say to young people out there is work, dont worry. Thats a whole chapter in the book. It is about the work. Thats what you can control. So work hard. And youll get to what you want to do. And also maybe youre not in this perfect job that you want to be in, but do the best you can and you will go forward. It will lead to the next one.
