Nbcs Kerry Sanders has been following all of it for us and he has the latest. As to count one, i would declare that mistried. Reporter and a protest following the mistrial, anger and disbelief the jury could not agree on a firstdegree murder charge. Thats why were all here and were feeling like maybe justice wasnt done for jordan. Dunn claimed he feared for his life and fired in selfdefense. But was convicted on three counts of attempted murder for firing ten shots at the suv with davis and his three friends. The first thing he said to me is how did this happen . And i think he was in disbelief, how could they find seconddegree or attempted seconddegree murder on those three counts . Dunn now faces 60 years in prison for those convictions and prosecutors say they plan to retry him on the firstdegree murder charge. We will continue to wait for justice for jordan. Kerry sanders, nbc news, jacksonville. Another winter blast could cause more problems from the Pacific Northwest to the midwest. Parts of wisconsin are expected to get up to 8 inches of snow. And russia over the weekend. It lived up to its billing. Team usa won 32 in a dramatic overtime shootout. Take a look. Goal team usa wins. Two of the heroes of that emotional win are with us. Sharpshooter t. J. Oshie and goalie Jonathan Quick. Good morning. How are you . Doing good. By the time you got to the locker room after the game and got to your cell phones, were you besieged by Text Messages and emails and things like that . There were quite a few. Not as many as everyone thinks, but we had a couple. We were there cheering you on. Not only were people cheering usa, usa, they were cheering oshie, oshie, oshie. Have you ever heard that in your nhl career . Just once, i think in my rookie year. But it was pretty special. Really cool. Jonathan, when it comes down to it at the end, youre the only two americans on the ice for the last five shots. And from your point of view, is it a highstakes game of chicken . You against one guy with a puck and who blinks first loses . At times it turns into a little bit of a mind game. Because youre facing the same shooter youve seen a couple of times already. And you might have made one save and they scored so youre trying to figure out what hes going to do next. And whether hes going to go back to moves hes already beat you with or whatever hes going to do. So, you know, it was a lot of fun, exciting, and i had a couple opportunities to make a save to win the game, wasnt able to do it, luckily t. J. Kept scoring for us. You both did great. T. J. , i have to say the nhl has different rules. They cant recycle players in a shootout. Did you know that was the coachs game plan to keep going back in . I had a feeling i was going back in, i didnt know i was going to keep going. I was running out of moves. Happy the last one went in and opposite of what jonathan said, he bailed me out a couple of times. When one of us didnt do a good job, the other one bailed us out. When it comes down to it, this is not miracle on ice 2, its not 1980. The game has changed, the world has changed. The way you come up with olympic teams has changed. But nonetheless, the history is there. You probably neither of you were born at that time. Did it weigh on you . Did you understand the significance of taking on the russians on their home soil . You know, obviously with everything that happened with 1980, since then, i think its kind of rivalry that maybe died down a little bit. But, you know, playing any team on their home soil during the olympics is pretty special. And, you know, its not the win we want, the win we want is, you know, sunday. So we have a couple of games to get there. But, you know, its still pretty special to win that game. Weve got a blown up picture here for you, t. J. , of quite a moment. Ill lets let you see it first. Thats pretty cool. Its cool. What was going through your mind at that moment . What do i do next . Theres a little panic in there. Saw the replay. Looks like i wasnt shaking but i was underneath and really happy that last one went in. Well, you came through in a clutch. Thank you for being here. Great to have you here. Jonathan and t. J. , thank you. Good luck. Willie geist is over in the orange room. And a lot of people talking about these two guys in this game on social media. Absolutely. Send those guys up. We have a couple viewer questions for them, as well. Its been oshie mania for the last 48 hours. T. J. Oshie gained 140,000 twitter followers since the start of the Winter Olympics. During saturdays usa russia game he was mentioned in over 136,000 tweets just during the game alone. And the love coming in from all over the place. Check this out, celebrations spanning the globe. These are american soldiers stationed in afghanistan cheering as that last win. Meanwhile, back in the bars in the United States, barstools. Com capturing celebrations. Bostons bar and grill erupts. Thats boston. He plays in st. Louis. They love him there, too. New york citys saloon was going nuts, as well. And declans irish pub in chicago, it was 9 30 in the morning and they had packed the bar to watch this guy play. T. J. , come on in here, congratulations, man. Weve got questions from our viewers for you. Asking an olympian. He asks, whats a musthave before game day . Superstitions before the game . Eat anything, do anything before the game . I think typically every hockey player has a pregame meal and that usually consists of pasta and chicken or steak and then whatever kind of sauce you want. Nothing too crazy . You dont wear different socks, same socks . Not me, no. Some people have their things they do. I tend to keep it pretty loose. Okay. This one i think is more of a rhetorical question. Dixie asks, its from her husband. How does it feel to know my wife would leave me for you in two seconds . Thats a crazy one. Im not actually that cool. Dont answer that. Thanks for stopping by. Such a pleasure. Congratulations again. Well watch you this week. Guys, back to you. Meanwhile, we mentioned we were there at the game. I did not realize at the time how wrapped up in it i was until i saw that video of the winning goal when i pretty much lost my mind. But it was really fun. The atmosphere was great, it was exciting. So Many Russians in that building. I think team usa fans were very, very loud. And we decided to document it all on our smartphones. Take a look. 3 c1 30 seconds score, score, score yeah yeah yeah usa usa can i say, ive seen you before major news making interviews, not as anxious as you were. I was so nervous. I know. Score, score, score yeah i couldnt take much more of that. I couldnt. Nervewracking. It was great. And meredith had some crazy dance moves to distract the enemy. Right. All right. Coming up, an emotional day on the slopes as team usa grabs two medals in the mens superg. Well talk to silver medalist Andrew Weibrecht and Bronze Medal Winner bode miller, now the oldest alpine skier ever to medal. And can she be figure skatings gold girl of sochi . In the meantime, lets look at whats making headlines back home. Another blast of wet weather. Rain in the Pacific Northwest to a snow and ice storm in the midwest. The copilot of an Ethiopian Airlines plane is in custody this morning after hijacking his own passenger plane overnight. The flight was bound for rome but taken to geneva instead. He said he was seeking asylum in switzerland. And a new report shows up to 2 of all babies in the United States are conceived with fertility help. And well begin this half hour with the olympics and a big day for u. S. Skiers at rosa khotur. With the odds against him, bode miller gave it his most. His u. S. Teammate, Andrew Weibrecht an underdog. Living up to his nickname, war horse, he came speeding down the superg course winning the medal. When the results were final, miller had skied into the record books. But it was thoughts of his brother that left him speechless at the finish line, an emotional day in a remarkable career. And silver medallist andrew w weibrecht is with us. You wear that silver medal very well. Thank you very much. I read one article that said this was a shocking result, which makes me wonder, was this surprising to you . Did you shock yourself . Yeah, i did a little bit. Ive had a lot of really good skiing lately but ive also had a lot of injuries. I havent really had the continuity with my skiing lately to put everything together. It just happened to be a perfect time to make it all work. You won a medal in vancouver and then you had a rough few years. You had some injuries, you werent getting the results you wand. I mean, were there moments when you thought why am i doing this anymore . Why am i in this sport . Yeah. Its tough when you go in and you have a injury, you get a surgery and then youre out of shape, you try to build it back up, come back and then to go through that process and then, you know, just to get another injury and another injury, you know, it gets kind of wearing and it gets tough. Theres definitely times that i had a little bit of trouble with it. But ive got a great support system. My wifes been super supportive and my family and my mom and dad have really done a lot for me, supported me. So thats kind of kept me going. Well, Flash Forward to sochi and you gave us one of those awesome olympic moments when you crossed the finish line and realized you had won silver, it felt like all that emotion was written on your face. Can you even put into words how you felt, realizing what you had done . It was the most emotion i have ever had in a ski race. It definitely is the one race in my career thats meant the most to me. You know, to come and have a result thats that strong at this event, you know, after all the stuff that i dealt with is just it made all the tough times really worth it. Well, andrew, were so happy for you. Your country is proud of you. Thank you for being here. Thank you. And well send it over to matt. Congratulations, andrew. Lets turn to bode miller. Good morning. You are now the oldest alpine skier to win a medal in the Olympic Games. How does that sound . Ive been getting a lot of old jokes lately. I suppose i deserve them. I have been around a long time, but i actually got to knthrow a couple at a guy who got silver in ski jumping and his first olympics was 1992 so i got to throw a couple slings at him. You skied in the 13th position, you put in a great run to get into the medals but then you had to stand there and watch all the skiers after you try to knock you off the podium. Did it feel like an eternity . Yeah, it was tough yesterday because i made a couple mistakes, and one of the mistakes was on the bottom of the course. I was winning at the top against all these guys and i would have a. 05 lead on them and they were coming in. 006 behind and thats nerveracking because you know youre going to lose time at the bottom. We saw a very emotional side of you, not only on the interview but on twitter and the interviewer is getting attention for pushing too far on the death of your brother. Your take on that . Ive known kristin a long time, shes a sweetheart of a person. I know she didnt mean to push. I dont think she anticipated what my reaction would be and i think by the time she realized, it was too late. I dont blame her. I feel terrible shes taking the heat for that. It was a heat of the moment kind of circumstance. I dont think there was anything intended. Its just been a lot of emotion for me. You sometimes dont realize how much the pain and stuff until the dam breaks and then its just an outpouring. And you have the slalom and the giant slalom and they could be, you said, your last two olympic events ever. Are you prepared for that . Yeah. If these are my last olympic races, im proud of what i accomplished and i feel really good about my efforts in ski racing. So i dont really feel like it will be that emotional for me but you never know, it might not be my last one either. Weve been making jokes about the next olympics. Im ready, im prepared, i want to win these next races. I go in there with focus and i havent been thinking too much about the future, how im going to feel about it. All right, bode miller, were proud of it. Well see you in south korea, apparently. Congratulations. Lets get a check of the weather from mr. Roker. Our friends in the Pacific Northwest still getting hammered, Pineapple Express bringing a lot of moisture, high wind warnings, avalanche warnings. Its going to continue as the front pushes through. Were looking at 1 to 3 inches of rain along the coast. In the cascades we could be seeing 1 to 2 feet or more of snow and then to the south, record breaking temperatures, 80s and 70s in the southwest. Tomorrow theyre going to see more warm weather, temperatures in the rockies about 10 to 15 degrees above normal. As you slide to the southwest, temperatures approaching 90 good monday morning to you. Happy president s day. Temperatures are going to climb out of the 40s into the 60s later on except for San Francisco, about 59 degrees there later on today. I want to talk about your microclimate differences. We have rain moving in. Not until wednesday most of which is going to come through during the heart of your morning drive. But a lot is going to clear out before we even get into wednesday afternoon. By thursday the warmup begins, especially in the south bay. 67 degrees here. 63 in San Francisco. Close to 70 in san jose. And thats your latest weather. All right, al. Thank you very much. Coming up in trending, whats with the mustache . The olympian with the strangest good luck charm weve seen in sochi. I know some people say that im a dark horse. But i think im a little bit lighter in color. Its this confidence that is gracies trademark. A little bit of a fist pump there from gracie. Some say shes the fiercest of competitors. Do you think thats a good description . Competing when you dont feel like it and being able to zone everything out and focus on what you do. I think we all have to have that edge. Gracie found that edge trying skating for the first time at a Birthday Party as a child almost immediately she wasnt just good. She was great. After training most of her life in chicago, she recently made the move to a city more fitting for her nickname golden girl, los angeles. To train with Michelle Kwans former coach frank carroll. What is it about michelles skating you particularly like . Well, besides everything um i think it was her confidence and her game face. Are you trying to have your own game face going in . Thats what im trying to do. And with that game face, its clear just making it on to the olympic ice isnt the end game. Will that be enough just to have made it there . I think 80 . But that 20 of skating my best and making the podium, that would be that 20 that would be all. One thing is for sure, gracie may be the only skater bringing a unique skillset to the game. And with white and davis expected to retire after this season, what better way to cap an incredible career than with olympic gold . Theyre the picture of perfection. Remarkable. So good. And were going to be hearing from them in a little while. Meanwhile, some believe the excitement here in sochi is generated by the thrills and spills of great athletes like that. But we in the broadcast business like to think we can create a little excitement ourselves. Who really brings it . Is it the newscasters or the sportscasters. But first, lets get a check of the weather. Lets show you what weve got going for today. Wow. Its working. Its just not right. Some of the risks for our friends in the midwest this week, first of all, we are talking about warming temperatures. Getting in the 40s and 50s from springfield on into fort wayne and chicago. Plus, you add to that melting snow, up to 18 inches of snow is going to be melting. In fact, thats going to cause a problem when you add to it heavy rain up to a 1 to 2 inches of rain by thursday. You put it altogether and youve got the risk of flooding in the midwest. Today, were looking at icy conditions from the plains all the way back into pennsylvania. Wet weather in the Pacific Northwest. Sunny and mild through the southwest, 77 in key west today. High surf advisories along the Southern California coast. There you go. Todays olympic start is brought to you by kelloggs. From great starts come great things. Keeping my eye on the bear a little bit here. Okay. Now to todays olympic start. 18yearold skiing sensation Mikaela Shiffrin makes her debut tomorrow in the slalom. I caught up with her shortly after she arrived in sochi to talk about nerves, boys, and of course, gold medals. Im mikaela. Im savannah. How is it going . Are you working on your suntan during the Winter Olympics . Yes, cant you tell . I just cant believe how warm it is. You got here yesterday . Yeah. What do you think so far . So far, its a lot more busy than it was last year when we came for skiing. But its sweet. Its really good. I figure we better stop at the russian souvenir shop. Are you in the market for anything russian . I im open to options. You could have a chocolate gold medal until you get the real thing. Are you excited . Your first olympics . Yeah. Its cool. I dont know, its funny, im not really nervous. Everyones like im going to get nervous at some point, right . Smells like soap. Looks a little bit like cheese. We shouldve brought a russian translator. What is this . Looks like hot sauce. Dont taste it. Are these the mascots . Yeah, those are, there they are. All right. Thats a good one. Thats what ill do. Okay. Its a little good luck charm. Different is the Gold Standard right now. Are you looking forward to doing the kind of the olympic experience . Based off of what everybody else is saying, the olympic experience, which is the process not the results. And thats kind of how i go into everything anyway. But im hoping i get my experience from the top of the podium, you know . Im not going to just shun that away because i have a chance to do it. Unbelievable meteoric rise for shiffrin who leads the slalom race at this tender age. For you to be this close to that dream so young. Its pretty remarkable. Yeah. Its pretty exciting for me for sure. Thats one of the things people say, are you nervous . Are you going to cave under the pressure . Im like, well, gee, thanks. Are there other olympians youd love to meet while youre here . Yeah, every one. I probably wont meet that many. Because im like holing myself up in my room trying to just stay calm and not get too distracted. Is there an olympic crush . Yeah. Like no one in particular that i can think of. I couldnt just name one person. Im at that point in my life where im like, oh, boy. And im like focus. I have no confidence when it comes to that. Im like, okay, im just going to go the other way and hide my head in a hole, but, i mean, anybody whos nice to me, im like, he must like me. He likes me. Okay. Lets go. Good luck. Well, thank you. So exciting. Yeah. So cute. We got the replica bear. Mikaela is fine, she will compete tomorrow in the giant slalom. Shes amazing. Shes incredible. Shes awesome. Coming up, lindsey vonn will weigh in on bode millers historic medal here in sochi. And were going to catch up with the cover models from this years Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Theres no end in sight im going to need more time. All right. Welcome back to the olympic park here in sochi, russia. As weve been talking about this morning, it was an historic and emotional weekend for bode miller. His bronze in sundays superg, the sixth medal of his olympic career made him the oldest alpine skier to medal in any Olympic Games. Today olympic correspondent lindsey vonn, herself a Gold Medalist, is with us from vail, colorado, lindsey, good morning, good to see you. Good morning, matt. Good to see you, too. Hey, lets talk about this performance. Last time you were on with me, we were talking about bode miller and the disappointment in the downhill. You said hes got more chances to win medals and you predicted, i think that he would, good call. What did you think of his performance in the superg . I thought he did really well. The conditions were really tough. It was warm weather again like its been the last couple of races. And, you know, soft snow and he had obviously a lot of pressure. You know, he wanted to do well talking about wanting to do well for his brother. And he just executed very well. And im extremely proud of him. Hes just a great competitor. And someone that ive always admired. Yeah. Youve known him for a long time. You mentioned his brother. And im sure youve now seen that interview he gave after the race where he really got so emotional. Is that a side of him that you had ever seen before . Not really. You dont really see those moments of bode opening up very often. Hes pretty reserved and especially with his interviews. Hes he doesnt open up that way. So it was very nice to see that, obviously, under the circumstances you would like to see his openness in a different way, but, you know, it made you want to cry, you know. It was a really special olympic moment. And those moments, i feel like they come out and present themselves much more in the Olympic Games, and its very cool. Yeah. There is something about the olympics. Hes 36 years old, the oldest alpine skier to medal in an Olympic Games. Is that something you look at at 29 and say, wow, ive got a lot of skiing left in me . Yeah. You know, he is 36 and people may think thats pretty old, but in ski racing, i feel like, you know, especially for men, anything is possible up until 42, there was a swedish skier that raced in vancouver and was 42. Its definitely possible. And it gives me a little confidence going into pyongyang in four years. Ill be 33. So if bode can do it, i can do it. That works. I want to ask you about Andrew Weibrecht who is standing over here, he takes his second olympic medal in consecutive games now. Hadnt had that kind of success in podiums in the world cup or World Championships. Are you surprised hes able to rise to the occasion so much in the Olympic Games . Im surprised but not surprised. I mean, he had an amazing performance in vancouver. And once you know you can win a medal, that gives you confidence going into the next olympics. And, i mean, i think under all the circumstances, his performance is probably the best so far in alpine coming from starting number 29 and doing what he did. Hes never been on the podium like you just said. He really only shines at the olympics, which is pretty unbelievable. I mean to be that clutch and to make that performance at that highpressure situation is unbelievable. So i give andrew so much credit. He did an amazing job and im really proud of him. Ill pass that along. As i said, hes standing just over to my left. Lindsey vonn, thanks, lindsey, nice seeing you. Thanks. Good to see you, too. Say hi to andrew. I will, i will. Up next, three is better than one, Sports Illustrated goes all out for this years swimsuit issue. Well meet the cover models, but first, this is today on nbc. S swimsuit issue. All right. Were back in sochi with a little taste of summer if youre tired of all that snow back home. Yeah, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue hits stands tomorrow. The ladies are with us this morning from los angeles. Ladies, good morning to you. Good morning. Oh, not only do you pose in unison, you speak in unison. We love it. Some people call getting the cover of the swimsuit issue like the oscars of modelling. How excited were you when you found out, chrissy, was this a career maker . Just to be in the issue in the first place was kind of just absolutely massive for me, so to get the cover, totally unexpected, did not think it was going to happen. Oh, my god, i have not even seen this stuff. This is crazy. Im still in shock from it, and this is massive and its great to share with you, also. Its really exciting. Well, nina or lily, this is the first time i can remember weve had to use one of those were a little bashful about this ribbons to cover a piece of the cover. What do you think of the photograph . Do you think it pushes the envelope a little far . Thats actually the first time weve seen that cute little bow. Thats the best part. It makes it look dirtier. What is hidden behind this bow . Its just us. Yeah, but i think the covers so beautiful. I love its the three of us. I think we look healthy and happy and were having fun. And its real. A real moment, were all smiling and having a good time and they caught that. Well, you know, matt was just saying to me he reads it for the articles, but why do you think the swimsuit issue is such a big deal year after year . Well, its a legendary magazine, and they always bring beautiful women and, you know, its just about great energy and about embracing the woman body. And its all very independent, successful women, and i feel its special. These women go on to be moguls. They do so much and great work. And magazines on newsstands for half the year. So its a big issue. Not just a cover that would be exciting to get as well, but this issue is out all the time. And its really an iconic magazine. And to be a part of it and be a part of the 50th anniversary. Its huge. Thats massive. Its really, really big. Amazing. Well, big congratulations to all three of you on making the cover and being in the issue in the first place. Really appreciate you taking time to talk to us this morning. Thank you. All right. And again, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue comes out tomorrow. Coming up next, the hit of the sochi games, johnny weir on his childhood, wedding and headlinemaking wardrobe. But first this is today on nbc. Pretty shot of rosa khutor as we welcome you back to the olympics. Members of team usa are making headlines here. But also in sochi and around the world, theres a former olympian getting a lot of buzz. Access hollywoods billy bush caught up with johnny weir to talk about his newfound fame as a figure skating analyst for nbc. Hey, good to see you. On social media, matt, you can find a lot of comments about johnny weir taking a stand for gays in sochi, thumbing his nose at russian laws. But really thats people filling in the blanks. Johnny says hes not going out of his way to make any point off the ice. Hes just being himself. And that includes the fabulous wardrobe hes been sporting in sochi. The fact there are ten men vying for a bronze medal is outrageous. Everybodys waiting and watching to see what youre going to wear next. Are you going to run out of clothes . Were only halfway through the olympics. I way overpacked. So i dont think were running the risk of that, but i do think the pressure is on for me to look better every single day. We may see some same items but in different combinations, yeah . Im going to try not to do that. I have a computer log of everything ive worn. Oh, my gosh. Its the only way i can keep it straight. What were you like as a kid . What kind of boy were you . When i was growing up, it was still the late 80s, early 90s, and i knew that Public Opinion was kind of against gay people. I didnt know what being gay meant, i just knew you felt okay with it . I felt cool, i felt fine with being different. Aside from bullying how did you handle it . Im scrappy, a tough person. I wasnt afraid of other kids because i understood some day theyd wash my car. And thats what i had to believe and what i had to think to be Strong Enough to deal with kids and idiots. What does your mom say . My parents always knew. I never actually had come out to anyone besides my mom. And shes really the only person i came out to. Youre married. My husband was actually in the closet until about a month before we were married. Because hes russian . Because hes russian, hes jewish, he comes from a very strict and judgmental sort of world. [ speaking russian ] ive never felt bad being in this country. Ive trained here. Ive stayed and lived here for extended periods of time. And im not afraid of russia. Ive never had one bad homophobic experience. I havent come to make a statement in in way, ive come to russia to do my job and to do it well. And thats the most important thing about being in russia. An outspoken guy making a name for himself here in sochi. He is. And by the way, controversy follows john. Notice in the interview hes wearing a fur jacket. People are up in arms about that. Johnny defends it. More interviews on access hollywood, but he defends that jacket. Its something some people think its the mercedes benz, its a sign that youve made it. For johnny, its a fur and willing to take the heat with it. They have been a great duo as commentators. And weve got another u. S. Ice dancing duo, meryl davis and Charlie White making headlines on the verge of olympic history. Set a new world record in the short dance last night and one skate away from americas first ever gold in ice dancing. I recently sat down with them for a russianstyle meal and learned the key ingredient to their skating magic. Well, so youre in training . You have to be careful about what you eat. Yeah. I thought wed try russian food. That sounds perfect. Thats your cue. Well, first we have red caviar. Wow. I love it, i dont know about you. Is this what you normally eat before practice . Yeah, usually, you know. Okay. Russia, russia, russia. What do we have here . Im sorry, did you just speak russian . A little bit. What did you say . I said its really good, thank you very much. Wow. Lets hear your russian. All right. Lets talk. What is meryls best quality and worst quality . My favorite quality about meryl is how focused she is. How shes able to stay on task and really make sure were getting done what we need to get done. And i leave it at that. I think thats what a Good Partnership is about. What about you, meryl . Can i get you to dish . I think certainly there are days where we dont necessarily agree on the choreography or i might be tired and may want to go home and not work out that day. But theres never been anything to cause a problem. And i think 17 years later, thats why were still enjoying what it is were doing. The proof is in the pudding. Exactly. Did you really consider after vancouver whether or not you wanted to go forward . I think both of us knew we wanted to keep going but there was some part of us that was like, oh, we could just go finish school, how amazing would that be . Did you have to have the talk amongst yourselves and say, are we Going Forward . I think one of the greatest things about having been together for so long, we never really have to have the talk. Were always kind of on the same page and oh, thats what youre thinking too . Okay, great. Kind of great. Yeah. Pretty great. Meryl and charlie skate for gold in prime time tonight. Theyll be here live tomorrow. And we look forward to that. Were back with much more from sochi and the Olympic Games right after your local news. Youre watching today in the bay. Good morning to you. It is 8 56 right now. Another march and protest today in santa rosa over the death of 13yearold andy lopez. The sheriffs deputy shot the teen because he thought that lopez was carrying a real automatic weapon back in november. It turned out to be a gun replica. At 1 30 today, protesters will gather at the old Courthouse Square in santa rosa, calling on the d. A. s office to indict the sheriff. The group is also asking the Santa Rosa Police department to release its report on the shooting. Well keep you posted on that and also have another local news update coming up in just about half an hour. Have a great monday and president s day as well. Okay. Lets train like its race day. Whats up ted . I think i forgot to pay a bill. Yep, paid that one. What about your mortgage . Yep, paid that too. Alright were good then. Man i feel like im forgetting something. Eh, its probably nothing. You worry too much ted. Alright, hammer down bank from almost anywhere with the citi mobile app. Citi, with you every step of the way. From nbc news this is a special edition of todays take. With al roker, Natalie Morales, and willie geist. Live from the olympic winter games in sochi, russia. Welcome to today on a monday morning, its february 17th, 2014. Yes, it is president s day. Im willie geist along with al roker and Natalie Morales in sochis olympic park. Weve got fun things lined up this morning. We do. Big surprise, just off camera, very special guest. Not that bear again, is it . No. That bear. Wow. The bear. Man, the bear. The bear was aggressive. A little i think hed been hibernating a little too long. Came out of the cave. He was looking for honey pot. Whoa natalie el. Eh. I dont want to tell you. Dark natalie. I think they gave him a talking to. Because then he calmed down a little bit. I tried to intervene on your behalf and then i was victimized. It kept getting worse. You got the hug from behind. It was very much like when we had the halloween. I was thinking, like, please, dont let that happen again. Much taller. Youre going to like that. You cant unsee that. Hey, you guys at home are excited right now. Weve got this power ball jackpot, 400 million. Its the fourth biggest power ball jackpot ever, the sixth highest lottery prize of all time. Nobody matched all six numbers for saturdays, which was 330 million, the next drawing on wednesday. The lump sum in case youre wondering 227. 8 million. Weve got to call our spouses. Theres a little problem, though. I think the control room can help. Guys . Which ones ours . Are you going to split with us, guys . None. We get nothing . Weve got none. Theyre just taunting us from the control room. Thats not fair at all. But the odds of winning 1 in 175 million. I think 43 states, washington, d. C. And the u. S. Virgin islands all taking part. And our control room. Theyll share. Theyre not going to share. Seriously. Theyll share in the pizza party. Thats about it. These are the same people that when we have to work overtime run up, just take all the pizza and then when we get upstairs, theres nothing. And nobody shares. We touched a nerve on the pizza guys. Take this up offline. Im hungry. So right here in sochi, its a little bit strange the weather got really cold up in the mountains. Foggy. Its been fog. Rolls right in. Cant see them behind us. Yeah, check this out. This is what rosa khutor looked like earlier today. In the mountains where they do the skiing and snowboarding. Two events called off. The mens 15kilometer biathlon. I think the biathlon is the one to do. Im no athlete. I was going to say, i want as clear a shot as possible. Hey, bob its possible. Look at the venue there. Its ridiculous. Its like a bad daffy duck youre despicable. Theres the shooting range. I think thats a good call. I really do. Snowboard cross, so that apparently is, i guess, go on a little bit later under a modified format. Theyre going to use their standings from before from the previous year. They basically have qualified all go into the finals. There you go. I dont really know much. You really want to be able to see. If thats live fire, i think you want to see. One of the Great American stories here in sochi is meryl and charlie. Meryl davis and Charlie White moved a step closer to becoming the First American olympic champions in dance. They performed the music from my fair lady, scored a world record 78. 89 points. Take a 2 1 2 point lead over their training partners and rivals. They are the defending Gold Medalists, of course. They are unbeatable. At this point. 2 1 2point lead, theyre clearly favored for gold. Dont say it. Dont say that. Dont jinx. Dont say that you dont say that. Theyre not going what did you drink this morning . Did you have some vodka . No, i didnt, but im gonna. Hes going to. Theyve been skating together since they were 8. They were kids. Thats amazing. They are so young. Look at that. I love this. Its adorable. This is so cute. By the way, i interviewed their moms, and i think they get more stressed out than charlie and meryl. By the way, theyll be on the today show tomorrow with their mothers. Theyll be with us. Speaking of moms. Yeah. That is fantastic. Perfect. Tina, come on in here if you would. This is tina oshie mother and the real star of the oshie family. Yeah. T. J. Oshies mom. How much fun well, i dont know if it was fun, was it to be in that building on saturday . It was fun. It was an experience, it was surreal. What were you feeling . What emotions . Well, i was on my feet the whole game. And i was hoping we would win it before regulation time and then in overtime and then when it got to be a shootout, my heart started pounding. And i saw the coach give him a nod, t. J. Came out and started skating around and i just sat down and my heart started pounding. It just was i was nervous. And talking to you, you like a lot of us didnt quite know the international rules. We didnt know that t. J. Could come out again and again and again. So youre thinking after he gets through one, okay, im done, im going to sit down. But he came out five more times. Right. All the parents were looking at me, there he goes, tina. When he gets done and im like, oh, he made it and now i can cheer for the rest of the guys, im more at ease, lets get em. And then it came the fourth person and t. J. Jumps out again and i was like, i asked the dad. Can they do that . He cant go again, can he . And they were all like, i dont know. They didnt know either. None of us had seen that before. Olympic rule. And im, oh, no. And sat down and they were laughing. And im like, oh, my gosh. And my heart even right now talking about it was pounding. And he missed that next one, i believe. Its all kind of a blur. And then they went and all of a sudden i see the coach looking down the bench and t. J. Went to the defensive end and they were like then im like, they cant put him in again, right . And im asking the other fathers. Are you sure . They cant put him in. And they go, i dont know. Go in. One of the dads had been laughing during the game. I said what are you giggling at . He goes, im so nervous. And i started laughing. And then then they put him in again. And i started laughing even harder. I had tears. I was laughing. I couldnt quit laughing. And they kept going. And on the last one, im serious. If i fall, will you catch me . I was getting lightheaded. Up and down. I seriously really thought i was getting lightheaded and we won and had my go usa gloves on. What did he say to you when you first saw him after the game . He didnt really i waited it took him. Everyone was gone when he came back and he shook his head. He just hugged me and said im so proud of you, son. And he had done so many interviews he was just kind of the way hes carried himself since that game. Its such a tribute to you. The first thing out of his mouth was it was the goalie. Hes incredibly humble and unselfish and obviously got a great mom. And his father has something to do with that, too. I bet he does. He is very, very supportive. And you say you watch our show. Every day. Were honored. Yeah. Were honored. We love having you on. I cant watch it when im here. Now you can. Yeah. I have been trying to get the stream anywhere. But i cant see it when im here just like any media. Well, were so glad you stopped by the set. Its a pleasure to have you. Tina oshie, thank you so much. Yep. Well be at the next one. You bet. Thank you. Thank you, tina. Shes cute. Oh, shes so cute. Shes incredible. She also says because the wifi in the hockey hotel is not so good, t. J. Hasnt seen any of the craze about him. Hes not really aware of all the coming his way as soon as he gets a connection. Followers on twitter. He did, he just doesnt know about them. Theres incredible footage over the weekend. Luckily in longterm its going to be okay. Doctors, though, operating on russian ski cross racer maria komasarova after she was seriously hurt in training on saturday. She suffered a spine fracture, was taken to the hospital that was specifically built for these olympics. Vladimir putin visited her in the hospital on saturday. I think later airlifted to germany for further treatment. Remind you about how the risks these athletes take. The dangers. Look, they are pushing the limits. Any time youre on the edge like that. 85 miles per hour, i mean, its not something that most people can do. Another case in point, u. S. Snowboarder jackie hernandez. This is haunting, but shes okay was near the end of her 1,200 meter course and she was simply knocked unconscious. Oh, my gosh. You saw the way she hit her head. She briefly sat up after several minutes and communicated with medics before being transported down the mountain. She was knocked out cold. Scary stuff. And for the parents, who as you said, have to sit there. Tina seen her son take a couple knocks with a hockey puck or get checked one too many times. The name of the sport in a way comes with the inherent risk. All right. Take a look at the weather out there. A lot of risk, too. Weve got some severe stuff. Weve got another storm system coming across the country. Minneapolis right now in the thick of it getting some snow. And its coming down pretty good. Theyre going to pick up probably 2, 3, 4 inches of snow before its all over. This thing making its way Cross Country on the Weather Channel calling this winter storm rex. Winter storm warnings from minneapolis, green bay, down to chicago, also looking at area of snow across upstate new york, new york. Heres what we see as far as accumulations are concerned. Fairly light. About 2 to 3 inches, as much as 6 as you get into green bay. Then you come across the great lakes about 3 inches into the northeast, anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of snow. The good news is, its a happy monday. Happy president s day to you. Temperatures this morning are still pretty chilly in the north bay. 47 here in the south bay. Headed towards the 60s. Mid 60s at that. 63 degrees along the peninsula in san jose today. East bay at about 65 degrees. Were only going to have about 59 in San Francisco. But hey, thats average for this time of year. We do have some changes to tell you about. Patchy clouds will return by about 5 00 p. M. This evening. As an area of low pressure starts to get closer to the coastline, this is going to bring in thick fog tomorrow morning and rain. Coming up next, the american skier who shocked spectators at rosa khutor in the mountains and around the world with the race of his life. Xarelto can cause bleeding, which can be serious and rarely may lead to death. You are likely to bruise more easily on xarelto and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. Tell your doctors you are taking xarelto before any planned medical or dental procedures. Before starting xarelto, tell your doctor about any conditions such as kidney, liver, or bleeding problems. It was a big day for the americans at rosa khutor where Andrew Weibrecht stunned the world taking home the silver. A run down the course forced teammate bode miller in third place. The 28yearold from new york is here with us this morning. Andrew, congratulations. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. A lot of people saying it was surprising. You said earlier it was somewhat surprising to you. Because youve had a tough four years, injuries at one point you werent funded by the u. S. Ski team anymore. Did you ever doubt your abilities to be here and get that medal . It was, you know, theres a lot of bumps in the road since the medal in vancouver. And, you know, it was tough to kind of keep my head up a little bit sometimes. But i kept kind of soldiering on. And did the surgeries, came back from the surgeries, did more surgeries. And, you know, im really happy to be sitting here and to have pushed through all that to get back to this level. Were looking at your final run here. What was going through your mind while youre doing this . Do you go into auto pilot . What are you thinking . Yeah, i mean, a lot of times in the run, it just theres a lot of thoughts going on before you start and then once i got on the course, its just it really is kind of an autopilot. And instinct and everything else, years and years of training sort of take over. Andrew, ive got numbers in front of me. You never finished better than tenth. But you have two olympic medals. You won one in vancouver and silver here in sochi. How do you explain how you step up on the worlds biggest stage . Well, you know, i really built into the vancouver olympics and i was on the younger side then. And that medal really surprised me. And since then ive kind of lost four years of my prime time in my career to injuries and all that. So i think, you know, that part of the reason why my world cup results are so lackluster. You know, just was fortunate actually in the last couple of weeks things have really picked up for me. And you love a spotlight, right . Sort of. You do have the nickname war horse, which i think i understand why you earned that. But where does that come from . Our head coach. He i really dont know where it came from. Were winning a gold medal in not knowing stuff right now. 26 of americans are unaware that the earth revolves around the sun. 1 in 3 says science should get more funding from the government. This comes from a poll that finds 1 4 of us say, no, no, no, the earth does not revolve around the sun. Wow. Thats all we have to say about that. Yes. Its like jaywalking, right . Kathie lee gifford thinks it revolves around her. Oh shes not even here to defend herself. Youll hear about that later. All right. Mr. Roker, how about a check of the weather for us . I dont even know why. Lets show you whats happening. We are talking about Flooding Risk in the midwest later in week from wisconsin, michigan, illinois, indiana, its going to warm up. So temperatures start warming up into the 40s and 50s on thursday. Now, on the ground already, we have up to a foot and a half of snow. Thats a lot of moisture. Add on top of that another inch to 2 inches of rain and you get the possibility of flooding on thursday. But before we get to thursday, weve got today, more icy conditions in the Lower Mississippi river valley, wet weather through the gulf and look for a more heavy rain and snow in the Pacific Northwest. Thats whats 9 32. Happy president s day to you. Beautiful day in San Francisco. Old glory getting a little bit of bikiniup. We dont have any clouds to show you. The clouds will return the second half of the day. San francisco, everywhere else, mid to upper 60s. 63 degrees. 51 in tahoe. Mild and mostly clear. Rain on the way as we head through wednesday. Hope you have a fantastic president s day. And thats your latest weather. All right. Sequins, feathers, plunging shirts and itsybitsy skirts. Now, were not talking als wardrobe. There it is. The outfits worn by olympic figure skaters. Men and women they can make or break the performance. For a second i almost believed you. That polar bears got her running scared. Everyones a critic of these outfits. Fivetime National Champ and olympic silver medal gives us a peek at all the costume drama. In a sport where points can be won or lost at dizzying speed, something as small as this can make a difference. The deduction there is for the feather actually falling off her dress at the very end of the performance. I saw that. Thats ridiculous. Hardly. Costume choice in skating is serious business. The costuming can be a secret weapon and can really make or break a performance. Jim peterson coaches the american pairs team. He glued almost 1,500 crystals on that dress himself. Heres a dress designed for the american ice dancer with a few secrets. Power mesh. A skaters best friend. Crystals in the color of the aurora borealis. And fishing line in the hem to give the skirt movement. And skaters costumes take a beating. Jason brown lost 12 pounds on his road to sochi throwing himself into his river dance free skate. We kept tailoring it smaller and smaller and smaller. Trying to hit that sweet spot between functional and fabulous is a neverending challenge. The only problem with her performance was the costume malfunction. Too much is never enough. Commentators johnny weir and Tara Lipinski should know. Either youre going to make it interesting or make it simple. I looked ridiculous about 97 of the time but i own it and i loved it. And each has had their share of mishaps. And i may be the first man it ever happens to, but i was wearing a small bun. I pulled my mullet back and i got it stuck in my zipper while i was skating. It was kind of like this. Then theres also the 50 rule that you have to be dres d dressed, you know, 50 of your body has to be dressed. Its a good rule. A solid rule. Other than that, your only limit is your imagination and your confidence. Yeah. A lot of confidence there. You can see what the skaters are wearing tonight in the ice dancing gold medal final in prime time on nbc. And by the way, much more commentary from johnny weir and Tara Lipinski on nbcsn. And where is Teddy Roosevelt . Theyre not allowed to speak. I would love to ask teddy if fdr is so upset that you made it and he didnt. Kind of. Well try to put them in the correct order. If you looked at mt. Rushmore, what order would the four be in . We should wait until george gets here. Why dont we use the three and if he comes in, well figure it out. He was first president , he deserves a little more respect than that. I dont know what order theyre in. I dont either. We should delay it until we run out of time. I would like to keep them in the exact order theyre in now. Roosevelt and move on down jefferson and are we correct in that order . Are we right . Nobody knows. The answer is it is washington. We cozied up too a little bit and watched this great if you have a chance, this is my favorite thing, a documentary called 20 feet from stardom, back feet singers 20 feet away from the big mike and you wonder why are they not the star . They have voices like aretha franklin, darlene love, listen to this. If you really want me home the do run, run, run the do run, run that was perfect by the way, so it goes through darlenes life when she was younger and backup singer. It is a fascinating, fascinating, fascinating documentary. They get a real look at what it is really like. They do. They have the anonymity but the excitement of being part of it, you know . We have the where is our jimmy fallon sign . Here it is. Okay. So we dont we begged him. We just sent him one email, but anyway, he was busy. One of most touching moments whaz wife co was his wife coming up to him and embracing him and taking care of him. Doesnt matter who you are. The most human moments are what make the olympics so profound. The other thing great about the olympics, the games are terrific, but some of the commercials are incredible. This ameritrade commercial, it just shows all the work that goes into being an olympic athlete and it is such during such a short window of time. Noelle pikuspace does it again thats the best there is so much work. God bless them. Wow. The most beautiful commercial. I could watch that over and over again. Lets do it again then. I heard some accounts he was going to name it after himself. Im surprised he named it after hising to marry his girlfriend . No word on that. She is divorced. He almost didnt make it to the birth, he was in england doing the x factor judging and she went into labor a week and a half early. Theyre living together for the next month at least. We wish them a lot of happiness. We certainly do. Youre watching today in the bay. Good monday morning to you. Police are looking at Surveillance Video this morning hoping it will help them find the person who shot a man outside San Franciscos westfield mall. The shooting happened last night near the intersection of market and powell streets. Police say the gunman shot the victim several times and the victim actually stumbled down the escalator you see right there into the powell street bart station. Thats where he collapsed. Doctors say the victims injuries are very serious. Police do not believe that the shooting was random. Also another shooting investigation at a separate bay area mall. This one in san jose. Police there are looking for a man that they say shot two people in a crowded shopping center. The shooting happens after 1 30 in the afternoon yesterday near the intersection of burdette drive. This in the kings plaza shopping center. Police say it was a driveby shooting but some people said they saw the shooter standing in the plaza. Well have a quick look at your weather coming up. Welcome back. 10 29. Nicelooking day shaping up. Temperatures are still cool enough for a jacket. 55 degrees in San Francisco. Youre only going to climb by four degrees more as we head throughout this afternoon. Temperatures are going to be on the mild side. So between about 58 to 59 degrees in San Francisco. Clear morning, patchy low clouds later on today. Getting into your tuesday, thats when that thick fog returns. And this fog is going to create some pretty difficult travel for tomorrow morning. You do want to keep that in mind. Otherwise, a goodlooking week shaping up. That will clear out and make way to a warming trend. By the end of the weekend, we get our next chance for rain. As long as were talking about rain in the forecast, its a good thing. Weve got two more months of rainy weather, and then things start to dry out as we get into spring. Over to you. Well take what we can get, thats for sure. We do have more local news coming up in about half an hour. Our show starts at 11 00 a. M. Well see you then. Were back with more of today on this president s day. Hope youre having a nice one. Just three days after another holiday valentines day. Oh, yes. If youre one of the loving couples engaged this weekend or married for years but still wondering if you and your spouse really do belong together, have we got something for you. We asked you to go to our website and take elizabeth carols compatibility quiz. Elizabeth is the host of marriage boot camp. Oh, really . Yes. And shes here with license, marriage and family therapist hal runkel. A lost peopt of people aroun valentines day, you see people and you think, wow, they have a perfect relationship. It looks that way peeking in. It does. When you look in on a special occasion, you dont get to see them take down the walls and peek behind whats going on there. And thats what we do. Thats what most therapists are kind of voyeurs, we see behind the closed doors whats going on, you know . Does it take a long time to find out which marriages are going to work and which are not going to because the parties involved. Right. Researchers found you can tell actually, one of the greats of research has found that he can tell in 15 minutes whether this couple is going to john yes. Based on what . A couple of different things. How they start their conversations. Do they start their conversations like because the way you start it is the way it is going to end. If there is a soft startup, like, honey, i want to talk to you about something on my heart, thats one indication. And hes looking for the level of resentment. So when you start a conversation like that, like offensively, usually youve got pent up resentment and youre waiting to pounce. In the compatibility test, thats one of the questions you ask, is there resentment between the two . Biggest killer of marriage. How is that exposed . Resentment is a fascinating word. It is literal. It means im carrying around a sense of injustice. Instead of dealing with that in a constructive way, i resend it back through my brain and resend it again and it builds up to where my ability to hold it back erodes and it explodes. Like putting a band aid on something cancerous. And it will metastasize. It will grow. It will continue and if that doesnt get cut out, exposed which means address conflicts, even though youre uncomfortable, address differences you have, but address them quickly, relatively. Dont let them fester. Some people are just unwilling to do that. They just are. And theyll go through the whole counseling process and the whole time, im only doing this so i can get out and say, see, i tried everything. Just to sort of confirm the world view. Im a victim. He did me wrong, she did me wrong, they confirm that. We say, okay, do you want to be right or do you want to be happy . And you say when you go to marriage counseling, 80 dont remain together. The statistics are very, very negative when it comes to marriage counseling because you have two people pitted against one another, trying to engage the counselor, trying to get their side said, okay. So 80 of those statistically end in failure. Where as the marriage boot camp, we have an 80 success rate. And youre willing to do the work. Thats the difference. Here is the other difference. We dont necessarily put you with your spouse during boot camp. We pair you up with hal and say, okay, you guys do your thing and lets just observe how it is. And hes going to be different i dont think frank would like that. No wonder it is successful. Couple of other quick questions. Is your sex life working is another important one. I tell guys, one of the big g lie of guys is they need sex and they need to communicate that need. Whether or not you want it, i need it. Your marriage needs a unique, physical, Spiritual Connection with each other that you dont have with anybody else. If thats not happening regular regularly, then things happen in peoples lives. Our Service People come back and theyre not able to perform or i work with 7,000 Army Families a year and i see that all the time. There are still ways to uniquely connect. Even if it is not even if it is not full copulation, it can still be i think we need to always say that. Because sex is not everything in a relationship. We say in marriage boot camp, sex is the physical manifestation of the invisible connection. And if you dont have some form of physical manifestation, the bond is compromised. If there is not that happening, then usually it is because of that resentment that the other person is holding. That resentment, hoda, i told you. Thats good. Together youre good. Were a cute couple. Trying to share hal with everybody today. If you and your partner got engaged this valentines weekend or the last six months, we want to see your video. Enter our pop the question contest. We would like to hear from you. What you need to know if your child suffers from Food Allergies. And the hottest new toys straight from the toy fair right after this. Everyone knows a child with a food allergy. If youre the parent of one, it can be scary and frustrating. As many as 8 of children in the u. S. Suffer from them. If that doesnt sound like a lot, how about this, Food Allergies in kids increased 50 in recent years. We want to find out why. Here with what parents need to know is dr. Scott h. Fisher, professor of pediatrics at mt. Sinai in new york and author of Food Allergies a cleomplete guide to eating when your life depends on it. And hes here is with madelyn fernstrom. What i would like to know and hoda too, when i was growing up, nobody had Food Allergies or at least we didnt know it. Nobody talked about it. Whats happened . Our own studies show that tripling in peanut allergy in children, more than 1 of children with a peanut allergy. There is lots of theories. Short answer is we dont exactly know. It is obviously the environment, our clean living, our immune system, is it attacking things like foods it doesnt need to attack. What do you think . Part of the problem is youre going where is all this coming from . Were like super clean. Hygiene hypothesis, were not allowing our bodies to develop a strong immune response because were hyper clean, you dont keep your kids around places, you are doing all these things to keep antibacterial soaps so were not fighting this. Because the food supply changed, a lot of processed stuff, things added in. Another theory is maybe our bodies are just seeing this differently and were not really directing our immune system to really develop the way that they should be. This is but there is no there is always some theory. Is there a lot of research being done about it so some day well know . Guidelines have changed. Many years ago people said dont even eat if youre at risk for allergies, dont ease these highly allergenic foods until the child is 2 or 3 years old. We learned it is actually probably better to let the child eat unless they have allergies. Yeah. At what point should you introduce that to your child . Practically speaking thats going to be a choking hazard. There is no more limitation to wait to an age of 3 for a child with allergies. It is okay to introduce as long as they dont choke on it earlier than that, as long as there is no other signs of allergy in a child. They need teeth to chew. People are so afraid of feeding their kids. Instead of that six months, one year, 18 months guidelines you get from your pediatrician, people are holding on to several years of age. And thats not good either. The bottom line is that a healthy diet is what the studies are now showing is most helpful to reduce allergies. How Much Research do we have to do before we we know that. And watching your child. We look at top a or sometimes nine the idea is look at your child. Youre not allergic to everything. You may have a genetic predisposition. If you have an allergy or asthma or skin irritations, these can be inherited. But dont be crazy about this and say, look at things. Dont have a list of eight allergen things. If your mild is allergic, there is a fear you should give him or her a little of it at the time. Be careful about that. The good news is that there are some treatments that were looking at. Desensitizati desensitization, giving a small amount it still experimental. We see pitfalls. People have allergic reactions. This is not to do at home. This is not somebody who got a little bit of hives from something. It is to help a child from hidden sources of things because you want to make sure theyre not going to have peanut oil is in so many different things. Epipen. Right now, the problem is you have to avoid the food and treat if there is a problem. Our studies are hopefully going to find better ways to treat this. And people can look at clinical trials. Gov to look at studies on therapies which would be great. But right now, if someone has a severe allergic reaction, they take the selfinjector of epinephrine, it reverses the severe symptoms like troubled breathing. We have a generic version, called an aviq and epipen. If someone is having more than mild symptoms, the epipen has a lock on the back, now it is unlocked, pressed into the part of the leg, you heard it click, it is a trainer. Count to ten and take it awa and this opens up. Lets move on and talk about snacks that kids go to birthday parties, stuff going on, they run into stuff. Part of the problem is you cant make your child feel isolated. And everyone knows, youre the kid with the food allergy. So fruits and vegetables are always a goto. Have some things to dip it in. You can have anything like black bean dip or Something Like hummus but be careful and know what the child is allergic to. It can have sesame seeds. It can be a nut better like sunflower butter can be a great alternate to Peanut Butter and hummus for dipping so your kid feels like theyre part of the same and the other children can eat that as well. Most people want packaged snacks, not taking fruits and vegetables. There is fruit leathers or applesauce. If you want baked goods. Make it at home, but be really careful, especially for nut allergies. And some of these products like dr. Lucy who is a pediatrician, whose child had Food Allergies, made something ready to buy and it is right on the box. Read the label. Thank you, both. Thanks so much. Plant yourself on the sofa. Well show you how to beat the winter blues. Our gardening experts, the gorgeous ones are are here. First, this is today on nbc. Theyre here to help you bring back the feel of spring into your life and bring it indoors. Nice to see you guys. Nice to see you as well. Before we tiptoe indoors, are there any plants working and living outdoors . Right now were under a foot of snow. A foot of snow on friday night, but the snow is good, it give a blanket for the bulbs popping out hopefully soon and more water. More water. Going to be a beautiful spring, hopefully, because of that. With all the water, it better be. Lets take us inside then. I think a lot of people forget when theyre designing the inside of their home that you need to add something living. So the two corners of this room, a great plant for an odd corner, adds some light and a lot of color and unexpected piece of design to a room. People are so afraid theyre going to kill it. That can be quite an investment, a tree that big. Absolutely. They have to learn how to take care of it. Are they tough to care for . Behind you is an umbrella tree, it looks like little umbrellas, it is easy to maintain. It will tell you when it needs water. The leaves will start drooping. Nasa did a study. You need one plant for 100 square feet. It will help clean the air, help give you more oxygen. Tons of them. I love them. I get that got to get something green, you know . I think you can tell when they need water, not something you really need to Pay Attention to all day every day. Brown means what and yellow means what . Brown means you overwatered. Yellow means underwatered . Im asking, which is which . I think brown means overwatered. You think . You have to clean the leaves. You do . Yeah. Youll get dust on the leaves and this is where it takes in all the carbon dioxide, emits the oxygen. If you dont clean the leaves. Look at that one. That one was really dirty. It can take a while, i many say. Yeah. Thats right. You do a little at a time. Like dusting your house. How much light do these guys need . All they need is a little indirect light. Same with these. In this study, nasa said, 100 per square feet. Ivy is hard to kill. That is tough. Just about a minute, kids. We have great Indoor Plants for your cactus barely needs any water. You have rocks, charcoal to absorb the moisture and sand on top of your potting soil. Thats a fun project for little kids. I made this one myself. It was really, really easy. I love the succulents. Theyre nice. What about this . We have plants that peel. We have some mint, parsley and of course aloe. And my mom had a big aloe tree growing up, she had three boys. This one is a little sad now. On the ride up, we kept it too close to the window. But with aloe oh, my gosh. See, it is coming out. Right there. Hodi. Fixes you right up. Thank you. Thank you so much.
