>> what's interesting parents think if your child doesn't have a bowel movement everyday they think they're constipated. if they don't have three a week, then you should worry. >> if their belly is sticking out, may be hard or hurts them. if they go to the bathroom and it's hard pebbles. when they wipe, there could be blood on the toilet paper. >> you say eat a lot of fiber. >> there are fiber requirements for kids. take your child's age and add five to 10 grams to get their intake per day. >> that's brilliant. some kids and i unfortunately was like this as a child like to use their own toilet. it's a privacy thing. any tricks for that? >> it's common. have good bowel habits and a routine every single day. try to get your kids to go to the bathroom after meals. you go after meals you have a normal reflex that makes you go. they are less adverse sitting on the toilet. >> what about a restaurant, just encourage them to go? >> yeah. it sets up a bad habit if they're comfortable only going in their own home. >> ibs irritable bowel syndrome does affect kids too? >> it does. if they have diarrhea and feel better afterward, they're probably developing it. some outgrow it. sometimes it goes into adult hood. >> we know from studies we know restriction helps ibs. >> at what point does your child need to see a specialist?
