>> meet bird of prey. it's a wonderful face that hosts baby birds and it's a rehab center that gets these birds back in the air. >> you okay? >> vultures circling overhead are a clear sign that you are at the center for birds of prey. here hawks and other large birds are trained to show off their awe-inspiring flight. the training starts early. >> doesn't like being in that box. >> this barn owl sports hads baby down feathers. >> a name to most would constitute an animal being a pet. we have to be careful that people don't associate this cute young animal that is hanging out around people and behaving like a pet might. >> this little guy may not get a name, but he has a zoo in colorado waiting to host him. he cranes his neck to focus and explores his surroundings like a toddler. he is hungry and i feed him the lunch of gourmet mice. >> if you put it in his face and wiggle it. >> they do more than train our feathered friends. it serves as a hospital for injured birds like this hawk undergoing anesthesia for an x-ray. >> a fractured humorous. we inserted a pin surgically to align the bone during the healing process. >> from wounded wings to broken bones, about 500 wild birds are brought here every year. the goal is to help heal them and when they are ready, the center releases them back to the wild. like this american bald eagle. >> why is the focus here on birds of prey?
