[ cheers and applause ] this is it. you're here. thank you so much, everybody. let's kick off the week. here's what people are talking about. big news over the weekend. on friday, donald trump agreed to settle his trump university lawsuits for $25 million. then on saturday, he called the u.s. treasury department and said, "i'd like to make a a withdrawal. [ laughter ] is that how this works?" [ applause ] get this. donald trump claimed that he decided to settle the trump university lawsuit so he could focus on running the country. then he went back to tweeting insults at the cast of "hamilton." [ laughter and applause ] get that out of the way first. did you hear about this? vice president-elect mike pence went to see "hamilton" over the weekend and he was booed by people in the audience when he entered the theater. if the crowd wasn't mad enough already, pence waited until a a quiet scene to open up a bag of skittles. and you go, "come on, what is this guy doing? come on!" [ applause ] this is pretty interesting here. after mike pence was booed at "hamilton," donald trump tweeted that he heard that the show was, quote, "highly overrated." [ laughter ] as it turns out, trump has actually tweeted a lot about other broadway shows as well. for instance, he tweeted, "just saw 'rent,' such a sad story. i teared up when the landlord didn't evict those kids." >> steve: wow. [ laughter and applause ] wow. >> jimmy: another time, trump tweeted, "can't believe i just wasted two hours watching 'hairspray.' only went because i thought it was about me." [ laughter and applause ] no, "hairspray." >> steve: yeah, it's a a different thing. >> jimmy: trump also tweeted, "just attended 'the lion king.' total rip-off of the movie. wtf, unoriginal." [ applause ] finally, he tweeted, "wish i'd sat in the front row when i saw 'cats' because all i wanted to do was grab one of them. i can do it because i'm a a star." [ laughter and applause ] >> steve: wow. >> jimmy: see what i'm saying? >> steve: that doesn't make any sense. [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: at least he's out there supporting the arts. >> steve: he's supporting the arts. >> jimmy: he's out there supporting the arts. >> steve: you know what? he paid for his tickets. god bless him. >> jimmy: meanwhile, former texas governor rick perry was set to meet with donald trump today and is rumored to be under consideration for secretary of defense. on one hand, rick perry is a a veteran of the united states air force and the former governor of the 12th largest economy in the world. but on the other hand -- ♪ [ laughter and applause ] actually, trump seems to be getting along surprisingly well with some establishment republicans. in fact, house speaker john boehner says he and donald trump are texting buddies. i'm sorry, tanning buddies. [ laughter and applause ] i'm not wearing my glasses. on wednesday, at the white house, president obama will pardon his final thanksgiving turkey. i got to say, after all these years, i'm not sure he enjoys it as much as he used to. check this out. >> today, i have the awesome responsibility of granting a a presidential pardon to a pair of turkeys. we can't wait to pardon these turkeys. and with that, i think we are going to bestow the official pardon. the most powerful position in the world brings with it many awesome and solemn responsibilities. this is not one of them. it is -- it is a little, uh -- puzzling that i do this every year. [ laughter ] >> oh, boy. >> jimmy: oh, boy. [ applause ] oh, boy, here we go. he may not be into it, but you know the turkey will go back to the farm and say, "hey, guys, you'll never guess who i just met. wait, where is everybody? [ laughter ] guys! guys, i just met president obama." [ applause ] some more thanksgiving news, i read that 15 million americans will eat at a restaurant on thanksgiving this year. because when your family starts arguing about politics on thanksgiving, the first thing you think is, "we should be doing this in public." [ laughter and applause ] that's where we should be. and get this. the tsa just released a list of thanksgiving leftovers that you can carry on and others that you have to check. [ laughter ] yeah. saying that you're allowed to bring turkey on the plane but not gravy. >> steve: wow. >> jimmy: yeah. which would explain things when you're at the airport security and you see a bunch of people chugging their gravy next to a a trash can. [ laughter and applause ] rules are rules, you know, you got to do it. hurry up. they're taking off, dude! and finally, i read about a a woman from california who is driving by herself across the country to visit every single costco in the u.s. so far, she's traveled 2,000 miles and that was just walking through one costco. there you go. we have a great show tonight. give it up for the roots! [ cheers and applause ] ♪ ♪ do not read do not read do not read these books these books ♪ ♪ >> jimmy: before we start, i want y'all to know that every book that i'm about to show you is 100% real. these are actual books. you can find them on amazon or check them out at your local library. they are real. all right. let's see what is on my do not read list. this first one is a d.i.y. book. >> steve: oh, great. >> jimmy: do it yourself. >> steve: love it. >> jimmy: yeah. this one's called "upside down vests to make and paint -- vests made from recycled denim jeans." [ laughter ] it's a pair of jeans. >> steve: wow. i don't believe it. that's a pair of jeans? >> jimmy: finally, someone wrote a book about something that literally no one asked for. [ laughter ] not bad. [ laughter ] pretty good. you can't even notice. >> steve: that's fantastic. there you go. now i recognize it. it's a pair of jeans. [ laughter ] [ applause ] >> steve: don't buy that book. oh, man. >> jimmy: you got an aisle of books for losers? >> steve: yes. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: don't call yourself a a loser. next up is a parenting book. you know, i take this very seriously. >> steve: you do. you take it very, very seriously. >> jimmy: yeah, i have children. it's a parenting book that's called "parents, please don't sit on your kids." [ laughter ] i mean, i don't know. how else are you supposed to discipline them, you know? [ light laughter ] can't talk to them, can't reason with them, can't bargain. time-outs don't work. that only leaves one thing, sit on them. [ light laughter ] now they want to take that away from us. >> steve: you know what, yeah. >> jimmy: look how sweet these kids look. >> steve: aww. [ audience aws ] just want to sit on them. [ laughter ] ♪ >> jimmy: you play some -- can you play some evil music? ♪ >> steve: i must be sat on. the only way you can control me is by sitting upon me. [ cheers and applause ] ♪ >> jimmy: i love the name, daisy. >> daisy, yeah. yeah. >> jimmy: so cute, daisy, come on. it's, your whole world's going to change. >> i know. it's something else, yeah i mean, it's very -- especially if something bad were to happen. >> jimmy: no, no, no. that's not what we -- >> that's when it really you know --. >> jimmy: that's not why. >> i mean, when she becomes a a teenager. >> jimmy: yeah, of course. yeah. no, no, no. >> that's bad enough. that's going to be scary. >> jimmy: you have otis. >> otis. yeah, little two-and-a-half-year-old otis. >> jimmy: who is just a genius baby. >> yeah, exactly. >> jimmy: he is. >> he's a musical genius. whether he wants to be or not. >> jimmy: exactly. where does daisy come from, the name? >> daisy. we have an awesome cousin, liv's cousin by birth, mine by association, named daisy. and it's a great name and i got a weird last name, you know, sudeikis. it's got a lot of syllables, you know, a lot of funky things going on there so when she suggested daisy, i was like daisy sudeikis and i was like, that's great. and then we -- then her middle name is josephine. my father's middle name is joseph. and i also have a great-grandfather named joseph. and liv had a great-grandmother named josephine so we -- we made it josephine. so now she has the same initials. i'm daniel jason sudeikis. my father. >> jimmy: you're daniel? >> yeah, yeah, yeah. but i --but -- but my mom -- >> jimmy: i didn't know that. >> i know. not a lot of people do. i mean it's out there. you know, it's out there. >> jimmy: now it is. >> it's on -- >> jimmy: big news. >> it's on facebook, which means it's real. >> jimmy: it's real. oh, yeah, no. is that right? are you sure? >> i don't know if you read the news. >> jimmy: no, i didn't know that. if it's on there? >> you know the original name for the roots? the rootsy tootsy fresh and fruitsys. >> jimmy: no, that's not true at all. >> i read that on facebook. >> jimmy: you read that on facebook? that's not true. so now she's daisy josephine -- she has the same initials as me and her grandfather, djs. >> jimmy: that's fantastic, that's great. and does she get to watch a a little bit of "son of zorn"? >> no. no she doesn't. >> jimmy: but i like it's a a cartoon but it's also live action as well. >> it's mostly live action, just me as a cartoon. >> jimmy: i love it, though. it's something totally different and i understand they like it. >> yeah, yeah. >> jimmy: is it fun to do that? >> it -- i mean, yes, yes because i love the final product. but i don't get to hang out with, like -- >> jimmy: anyone. >> tim meadows or cheryl hines or johnny. i do it in a booth all by myself here in new york and they get to, you know --. >> jimmy: hang out with each other and have fun. >> yeah, yeah, you know. put make-up on, you know, all the fun things. >> jimmy: all the fun things, yeah. well, you get to do that a a little bit with this. you got this guy right here. congrat -- this is the real deal. [ cheers and applause ] it's a play bill. >> that's a play bill. i know. it's pretty amazing. >> jimmy: that would mean a lot to me if i was ever attached to a play. >> when they, they brought them in, you know, the week before we opened, and myself and then six or seven young folks and then six fellows that are in the play as well as the young lady in the play, we sort of held them like, oh wow. it's like i would assume like what it sounds like to have your song first play on the radio or anything like --. it's like wow, this is a legit thing. it's like "the jerk." i exist. i'm real. >> jimmy: oh, yeah. it's amazing. you should frame this. but this is obviously based on, i didn't know there was a play based on the film. but i guess they -- >> no, this is the first rendition of it. but tom schulman, the gentleman that wrote the original screen play that wrote the oscar, that was an original story, then he adapted it. and john doyle, who did "the color purple" on broadway now, he's won several tony awards, he directed it down at classic stage. >> jimmy: are you having trouble, i wouldn't know if i could remember the lines. >> that's what i was the most freaked out. as a matter of fact, i, i -- during the opening was just last thursday and our, you know, your current boss, my old boss, lorne michaels sent beautiful flowers. which, i'm sure he was the one that made the phone call and ordered the flowers, you know. he does the work. he does the work. >> jimmy: yeah. [ light laughter ] >> and it's the thought that counts, jimmy. >> jimmy: yeah, yeah, yeah. i'm sure he knows -- >> it's the thought that counts. >> jimmy: i'm sure he knows that you're doing this. >> no, no, i want 24 white roses. you can't get good help these days. no, but with a great card saying, you know, "good luck. if you run into trouble, i'll send wally." wally is our head cue card guy at "saturday night live." so, you gentlemen know him. >> jimmy: we know wally. >> you know wally well. but it's all right. because you have to, i had to memorize iconic speeches that robin williams gave, of course, in the movie. but then also the iconic speeches that walt whitman and henry david thoreau so it -- i haven't messed up yet. i messed up at our last tech rehearsal. we had about 20 people sitting in the audience, all the people that work at classic stage or whatnot and i'm getting ready to give the, you know, say the poem, you know, two roads diverged in a wood. now, do you know who wrote that? robert frost. >> jimmy: yeah. >> now, i know that as a human being. like if that was -- if we were like at pub trivia, i'd be like, oh, i got this one. that's robert frost. i'm sitting there on stage with all these guys with like 20 people in the audience and i go, as the poet -- and just could not remember who it was. >> jimmy: who wrote that. yeah. >> and then -- like dr. seuss, shel silverstein. >> jimmy: shel silverstein didn't do it either. neither of those guys did it. >> and the young man zaine, who plays the role of todd is sitting about as close as i am now and he was sitting there going like this, robert. just trying to say it under his breath. robert. and i just had to go, who said it? and then this young fellow, cody, just goes robert frost? and i go, yeah. robert frost. >> jimmy: the kids are learning. your kids are learning. and i'm the teacher. >> learning before i've even taught it, that's how good of a a teacher john keating is. so yeah, i haven't messed it up yet, though. >> jimmy: and how cool to be in new york city and you run into on the street josh charles. >> yeah. yes, who played knox overstreet. >> jimmy: knox overstreet. >> no it was amazing. it was just one of those little moments of magic that as you're, as i'm going to do the play, i'm just like, hey, i'm going to -- he goes, oh right. you're playing keating and he was so sweet. he was like, is my guy in the play and i was, like, yeah, man, knox is in there. >> jimmy: of knox -- we got knox overstreet. we got knox. >> jimmy: yeah, absolutely. i'm so proud of you and so happy for you. >> thanks, man. >> jimmy: and best to the wife and baby. hug everybody. i want to play a new game with you on the show tonight. >> i love it. >> jimmy: you're down for new stuff. >> you're always throwing new stuff at me. i love -- >> jimmy: it's called "tandem sculptionary." >> no.
