There was no earthquake, they are sure they know what caused the confusion. Earthquakes have a classic sharp p wave and an s wave. This is the shaking that occurred yesterday in the south bay around 2 30. The windows were just making some sort of noise by themselves. Didnt know what to make of it. To me, it sounded like a boom, a trembling. The brothers both heard and felt a boom. After fielding numerous phone calls, the usgs confirmed this is not the pattern of an earthquake, is consistent with a sonic boom. Caused when the aircraft reached the speed of sound. Last week, we exposed an illegal eviction in San Francisco. This stems from the family rule many our Investigative Reporter joins us with more. Our investigation shows a serious lack of accountability and oversight when it comes to evictions in San Francisco. People can legally get kicked out of their homes if their landlord or in some cases the loorns relative wants to move in. We surveyed over 100 of those evictions and found nearly one in four. The landlord or relative that should have been living in the home are not. The landlord must intend to live there for at least three years after the eviction. Five years for evictions filed after november 2015. Now, if the landlord moves out early, the old tenant has to be invited back at the same rent. Even if they decline, new tenants can only be charged that same rent. On our website, we mapped every owner move in eviction in San Francisco over the past three years. If you can find your address here, and youre not the landlord or relative, you might be entitled to cheaper rent. You can find out how on our website. Can you also contact us, head to nbcbayarea. The dispute and todays surprise twist. Rig noat 30 tehert motaiviehigr right now at 6 30, a teacher of Mountain View high school generated National Headlines for comparing donald trump to adolf hitler. He was put on leave, but not because of that lesson. Robert honda joins us from Mountain View high school. This is a long time teacher. The story did attract a lot of attention, even though what caused the uproar is in dispute. And it did lead to a somewhat bitter conclusion. Frank navarro has been a history teacher for 40 years. Last week the 65yearold educator was abruptly sent home on paid administrative leave. It stemmed from a class lesson that compared the election campaigns of donald trump and adolf hitler. The lesson was misinterpreted by a parent. There were numerous parallels i was important that would link the history to the 30s. Reporter the district denies he was sent home for this comparison. The explanation has been that we were concerned for the health of the students and i have not seen any indication that the students were imperiled. Navarro is grateful an online petition supporting him has already generated about 40,000 signatures. The district superintendent tells us, there was a thorough confidential investigation that navarro is fully aware of about the separate issue. Navarro says hes mystified and the ordeal has taken too much of a toll. Youre going to retire because of this . Its going to push me out the do door. They have no intention of stopping their campaign of support, the district had no comment on the online petition, did point out that navarro was not officially disciplined and officials consider the case closed. Over the last three months, nbc bay areas Investigative Unit has uncovered key documents about the sinking and tilting Millennium Tower. Our story is targeting an investigation by a San Francisco city supervisor. Now, Jackson Beckett has uncovered another troubling document. This one deals with the Towers Foundation and the massive transit project that Millennium Developers blame for their towers sinking problems. This key document is a letter, brought in to investigate the 58 story Millennium Tower. They affect the building next door. A Structural Engineer wrote a letter back in 2006, we talked to him before we discovered the letter. We look at the seismic design and more design on the sheer walls. Its the foundation that is in question. It sunk 16 inches and is leaning. The development is state of the art. They blame the massive transit terminal next door for destabilizing the soil under the millennium. Panu looked at the structural aspects of the foundation. No one reviewed the Geo Technical engineers foundation. We asked him about that. Hanson tom is San Franciscos building departments engineer. He said millennium officials refused to pay for repair of the foundation. We insist on a full peer review at that time. The documents we uncovered show the review was even more unloimted. The city cant tell us much about what went on then, because of its incomplete records. In the letter we found, panu writes, we were not asked to review the effects of the trans bay terminal project on this project. We found this grainy copy of thousands of pages. They did not have the original, and the city does not have other foundation related documents. They say they hope to do better in retaining documents in the future. Its deeply troubling. Aaron peskin says the letter is proof the citys Building Inspection Department bungled the job of assessing the buildings foundation. I think the building officials when they got a letter saying the Foundation System appeared adequate except for they had not analyzed this huge hole they were going to put in the ground next door, that should have been a huge warning signal, a huge red flag, where they should have gone back and done the analysis of the impacts of the trans bay. The fact that they didnt . They were either asleep at the wheel or complicit. You dont build a gigantic construction next door, without analyzing its impacts on its building and it wasnt done. That makes no sense to me at all. Jerry dodd son lives on the 42nd floor of the Millennium Tower, hes one of the many fighting to get answers about minimumen yums sinking and leaning problems. The fact that the original document and others have vanished is troubling. You have destruction of documents and you also have a failure to analyze the impact of the terminal on the construction of the Millennium Tower. Both of those to me raise serious questions about what people were doing at the time to protect the people that would later live in this building. Nbc bay area news.
