This is a ripoff. Reporter even by hillary clinton. But he stays defiant. Well, im focused on the drugs. At the end of the day my constituency is not the media. Its my investors who i work for and then the patients who we all work for together. Reporter shkreli defends his action saying lifechanging drugs take time, patience, and a lot of money. I think pricing is complicated. If you look at this, just this neighborhood, youve got a lot of Drug Companies that charge a lot for their medicines and most are charging for brandnew medicines they spent a fortune developing. Shkreli says his shortterm plans are to create drugs to fight leukemia. Thank you very much, scott. The search is on for two men who tried to rob a safeway on the peninsula. Its a nasty fight with millions of dollars on the line. At stake possibly the safety of our power stations. Californias Public Utilities commission is at odds with state politicians. This all stems from the san bruno explosion. Nbc bay areas Mark Matthews is in San Francisco this evening. Mark, whats the bottom line here . Reporter raj, they got into hot water with the cozy relationship over the businesses they were supposed to be regulating. The commissioners hired attorneys to defend them. As it turns out, very expensive ones. After the san bruno fire the ensuing corruption investigation into the california Public Utilities commission caused commissioners to spend 5 million on outside attorneys. That incensed state lawmakers like san bruno state senator jerry hill. If the commissioners are doing something wrong, they should pony up and say this is what were doing wrong and admit it and take the brunt of it. Reporter hill helped to pass 5 million in cuts to the cpucs budget to send a message that hiring those outside lawyers was wrong. The cpucs Director Director Timothy Sullivan decided to make up for the missing 5 million by cutting funds and delaying implementation of programs including senator hills efforts to update security measures for the states electrical infrastructure. Those measures were approved after gunmen sprayed more than 1,000 bullets into the metcalf power station in april of 2013. What it tells us and what i think it tells the public, theyre prioritizing criminal Defense Attorneys over electrical grid infrastructure safety. Thats what it tells me. Reporter in a letter to the Assembly Budget committee, the executive director defended his proposed cuts saying, we believe they will not negatively impact the current level of safety. Today sullivan and all of the cpuc commissioners were unavailable for comment, but the head of the utility Watchdog Group turn told me that delaying safety programs and computer upgrades and the inspection of electrical plants isnt punishing the cpuc. Its punishing californians. Its simply not fair for customers to get caught in a match between the legislature and the cpuc. Reporter we tried to get the cpuc commissioners to go on camera, to no avail. We do have a copy of the letter sent from the executive director to the Assembly Budget committee. You can find it on our website at nbcbayarea. Com. Reporting from San Francisco, Mark Matthews, nbc bay area news. Okay, mark, thank you. Are you ready to watch some history . Fishermen and beachgoers are being warned to be careful. Theres also concern climate concerns predict a warmer ocean temperature that will lead to erosion along the california coastline.
