deliver pizzas. luckily my grandma was able to let me borrow her car. i'm lucky to have the car back. >> reporter: and now thanks to an alert patrol officer who ran the honda plate, michael has his car back. and this county task force, that's all they do, go out looking for stolen cars and looking from the crooks that stole those cars. but today's arrest was a result of good old-fashioned police work. >> it is a big spike in crime. some more details. in three days, 90 cars were stolen. 43 of those cars were recovered. some catholics in san francisco are taking on the teachings of the church. saying the arch die -- archdiocese is being -- mark a major hot but ston is the morally cause that the archbishop wants the catholic teacher to sign. >> reporter: the three to 400 taking part in this vigil have circled to block saying that that church has no business imposing church doctrine on the teachers particularly outside of the classroom. they also take exception to the archbishop's very tad lacy is copresident of the school's parent association. his nine-year-old twins are in the third grade, too young he believes for a pamphlet that asks them to consider sins of a distinctly adult nature including masturbation and sat. he says parents are upset. star of the priest says it was a mistake. >> this was inappropriate. we didn't think that one through very closely. >> reporter: the father says the pamphlets were recalled as soon as teachers complain but he does not back away from the church's opposition to homosexuality or same-sex marriage and he's not shy about the controversies that he's stirred up since coming here seven months ago. >> it's good for the city. it is. we're getting the word out that this is what the church teaches zblsh the father recently issued an order are that the girls will no longer be trained as alter servers. >> the question of marriage for example, he has always been clear that marriage is between one man and one woman. and tonight at 11:00. my colleague is covering this protest. reporting from st. mary's, nbc bay area news. the latest security breach at san jose airport caught on camera. it's a little hard to see but essentially it's happening inside the spot shadow showing a man on the tarmac. this happened last month. the fourth security breach in the past year. sjc has beefed up the security around the perimeter. the airport is asking for more funding from the faa. the most notable breach was last april, a teenager scaled a fence and hid in the wheel weld of a plane. the stow away was not charged. calls for repenitence from the faith community, not just for sins but for the federal district court. tonight advocates are asking for mercy saying more has to be done to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation. robert is live in san jose. and a community meeting is underway? >> reporter: the meeting about to start here at the may fair community center. the latest in a series of forums designed to help prevent immigrants being conned by people promisings to help with the citizenship process. as we saw earlier in san francisco today, immigrants are in a vulnerable situation right now. the hustle and bustle in front of the immigration court in san francisco has to go around an unusual event come buying ash wednesday rituals with a show of support for immigrants applying for citizenship. the bay area coalition called for president obama to file an emergency stay and appeal a recent court order halting his plan to temporarily protect tens of thousands of undocumented workers through executive order. >> the law is currently the status quo, which is that they are deportable and can be removed when they are legally made to do so. >> reporter: the group also wholeheartedly supports the effort in santa clara county toward undocumented immigrants. >> immigrants are especially vulnerable in figuring out who they can trust, who will take care of them. it as people of faith it's important for us to be trust wore think. >> reporter: one young immigrant says the uncertain legal situation can make families susceptible and it's difficult to know what to tell was a case of mistaken identity. an innocent young man shot to death. someone shot joel ramirez outside of a home last two months ago. today police announced that the gunman was after someone else someone involved with a marijuana grow operation behind the home where ramirez lived. investigators hope that a 25,000 dollars reward will lead to a break in the case. so far there are no supports. he was a student at the community college. friends and family members remember him as funny, popular and kind. a fiery explosion ripped through this home on roman do drive around 10 clon 30 in the mark. firefighters knew this area didn't have any water so they have to call in water trucks from other departments. the extent of the damage is pretty bad. luckily no one was inside the house. three cats houf did die in the fire. the home, as you can see, is just total loss at the point. no record on what ignited the blaze. we're foling a developing story in southern california -- >> i'll take this from here. seven people contacted a deadly sub bug. about 100 may have been exposed. it may have contributed to two deaths. now the exposure happened sometime between last october and this january from contaminated medical scopes. ucla made the alarming discovery last month. if the super bug spreads into your blood steam it can kill as many as half of those infected. an oil refinery blast leads to a fiery exmotion. it happened this morning at the exxonmobil refinery which is located in the middle of a southern california neighborhood. kim bell da that do is in torrance today. she has the latest details from the crews that are still there on the scene. >> reporter: right now a team of investigators is beginning the long process of determining what caused that explosion. and while the unit has been ordered to shut down the rest of the refinery is still in operation. this is what people could see from the outside of the exxonmobil refinery in torrance . and this is what firefighters found on the inside. >> we found some gasoline that was flowing on the ground as a result of the explosion. >> reporter: the explosion occurred shortly before 9:00 this morning followed by a ground fire. >> it was big impact. >> reporter: four contract workers went to the hospital. incredibly they only had mie snore injuries. the rest of the workers from that unit were sent home for the day. for first responder, a dangerous situation since there's always the potential of flowing gasoline reigniting. >> you can't just shut a refinery down. it's a long involved process. so we worked hand in hand with the refinery operators to isolate products, to bring units down in a safe manner. >> reporter: one of the safety mechanisms involves this flare system. >> and that flare stack is very visible, a lot of black smoke, big flames very dramatic looking. but in fact it's just a safety feature here at the refinery. >> reporter: this refinery processed 155,000 barrels of crude oil a day and supplies nearly 10% to have gasoline sold in california. exxonmobil officials would not talk on camera but they issued a statement saying they're conducting a thorough investigation. that investigation could take anywhere from three to six months. if any workplace violations are found, the company could face fines up to $70,000. the measles outbreak has senator barbara boxer pushing vaccinated. because it's spreading so fast. >> the measles outbreak has a lot of parents very worried. valley cooke says she can't stand the thought her twin grandsons could be exposed to the virus. might find this sbrers r interesting. new evidence points to the philippines as the source of that disneyland measles outbreak. state health leaders now say that the california virus that we're seeing actually shares the same genetic material as the virus found in the philippines where measles is a big problem. doctors treated 50,000 cases last year. 110 of of the patients died. so the missing piece of the puzzle is how and who brought that measles virus to the u.s. another day and millions of dollars down the drain. the shutdown of the 29 coast ports, including the port of oakland has communities hurting. everyone from federal leaders to oakland's mayor is trying to solve the contract dispute. u.s. labor secretary paid the mayor a surprise visit in oakland city hall this afternoon. secretary perez has been in the bay area this week mediating dockworkers and their employers to help end the stalemate. >> we are seeing orb commerce slow down and practically grind to a halt. this is hurting oakland. this is hurting communities up and down the west coast and pretty soon it's going to hurt all of america. >> governors from california oregon and washington also pushing for a quick resolution. well historic site on the peninsula could end up pushing out hundreds of its volunteers and it's all because of a piece of paper that basically says that the volunteers are liable for all damages and injuries while working there. 1300 people work for free selling tickets and also anything from ticket to building trails. so far only 600 of the volunteers have signed. and those who don't bay upper six to about 70. you'll also see throughout the peninsula pretty much the same temperature here for the next couple of days. for san francisco you're also here expecting upper 60s throughout friday and saturday. north bay, east bay and also for the tri-valerie, low 70s for the north bay. that's going to be the warmest. for the east shore, 69 by friday and for the tri-valerie we'll pop up into the low 70s. coming up in the full forecast we'll have details on when we could have some rainfall. but we want to leaf yes tonight with the king tides if you live near the coastline ore the bay. report from data quick revealed last month was the slowest period of sales in the last seven years. here's some numbers. in january of this year about 4400 homes were sold, in comparison comparison, in january of 2014 about 4700 homes were sold. why the slight slowdown? it's our lack of inventory. but the low inventory is keeping home prices up. it could be the next space race who will get to someone recognizes these women. they used a credit card belonging to a man who was killed over the weekend. hear the latest on this investigation. caught on camera. this photo, look closely, may by the key to solving a south bay homicide. police are trying to identify the two women in that photograph who may be connected to a crime. this week a victim was found dead at his home in gilroy. michelle roberts joins us live in gilroy. there's some more information on what's being called troubling transactions that has police looking for these two women. >> reporter: that's right. that happened in san jose. but here on bay street drive in gilroy, a quiet street, quiet neighborhood. early sunday morning police were called here at 3:00 a.m. there were reports of loud noises and dog barks. when they arrived they found the body of robert heiser inside his home. police believe he was killed by blunt force trauma. today police identified two people of interest. take a look at this surveillance video. what you're seeing are two women using heiser's credit card days after his death. they're wanted for questioning. >> preliminarily it does not appear to be random. we don't know why mr. heiser would have been targeted specifically targeted. >> reporter: both women are described as hispanic, about 18 to 25 years old with dark hair. if you recognize them you're asked to contact the gilroy police department immediately. report live, i'm michelle roberts, nbc bay area news. berkeley could permanently become a no drown zone. the city council meets next tuesday to consider a two-year ban on drones. they asked the berkeley police and other groups to study the issue and review a proposal. one proposal would allow the use of unmanned drones in the case of disaster locating missing people or help pursue suspects who commit serious crimes. opponents of drones say they violate civil liberties. frightening new detail tonight at the new isis video. more evidence now suggests showed that the light had been green for well over a block. this video in 2013 shows an unsuspected driver trying to drop a passenger in the city when all of the sudden a young woman stabs hum with what appears to be a steak knife. >> she went home was bleeding and told her mom that the driver was trying to rape her and she was defending herself. but on the other hand, the driver was who got attacked by the passenger. >> dash cams provide high deaf recordings, video and audio all in real time. for this taxi driver the cameras now provide peace of mind. just a couple of weeks ago customers used a stolen card to pay a $260 fare. >> we pulled the chip out and were were able to get a good image of the two people in the back of the taxi. >> reporter: in fact according to the transportation agency before 2009 all these vehicles needed were silent witness cameras and those just took pictures effort someone got into a cab and drivers could take pictures whenever they wanted. but thee were snap shots in time not real-time video. drivers are happy with the change >> they give me peace of mind. they make me feel safer. >> it eliminates the lying. >> he says in average his taxis are involved in up to 30 accidents each year each one roughly a thousand dollars. >> it's the biggest profit kill near the industry. that's why the expansion is hitting outside the taxicab industry. >> last yee you got a lot of uber drivers and side lift you've got a particular customer that rates the driver bad, they could potentially lose their privileges to be an uber driver. >> the $20,000 security. bikers have rights too. that's the message that lawmakers want to send to police. the proposed state bill was announced yesterday. the bill would create rules to keep cops from profiling we'll take you outside to the sky camera network right now, mainly clear skies. san francisco here's the thing. we do have some fog build in but it's right at the immediate coastline. you can see downtown near the transamerica building it's mainly clear here downtown. but don't let that fool you. we still do expect areas of low clouds to return as we head throughout tomorrow morning forecast. it's going to be the patchy overcast and thick areas of possibly fog here in san francisco and also for the north bay. here's the thing. as we hit 1:00 p.m. tomorrow we still should have an awesome jump in the temperatures and some sunny skies. san jose expecting 68 degrees. look at that morgan hill getting up to 70 tomorrow. should have close to the same in gilroy for the peninsula we'll go from 68 in palo alto down to 62 in pacifica. you'll have a cooler wind there. and for san francisco 64, and 65 in so ma. let's take you to the north bay and east bay and tri-valley. few spots expected in the low 70s, napa at 72 danville 70 pleasanton at 72. the reason why we bumped the temperatures up into the low 70s is we do expect a slight drier northerly wind in those locations. let's take you to the extended forecast. what you're going to find here is unfortunately no rainfall. i love to throw some rain icons on here but i can't do it. temperatures near 70 in san jose. it's not as warm as it was the past weekend, even several days before that but it's still going to be ten degrees above average. we should only be at around 60 degrees for this time of the year. san francisco you'll be in the upper 60s. saturday and sunday dry weather likely through monday's forecast. in terms of any rainfall the forecast has adjusted yet again. the long range look has only now the 28th with a possibility of rainfall. until this gets wand off the call lane car, i'm going to keep looking ahead to 28th and the chance of rainfall. guess up showed up for work today, the champs are back in
