Thats how people who live in one san jose neighborhood are describing their dealings with the valley transportation authority. The alum rock neighborhood is scheduled to get a bart station and an urban center as part of phase 2 in the project. But now that idea is in limbo, and the people are angry about it. Nbc areas Damian Trujillo is live in san jose where a neighborhood meeting is about to take place. And they want to know what shaping to the plan, damian. Reporter thats right, jessica. This meeting gets under way at 6 30 tonight. But some folks are already here. The residents here say theyre looking for ways to band together to make sure vta sticks to the original plan. Some people call it little portugal. For more than a decade, this area of alum rock has been planning for an underground bart station with a huge plaza at the ground level. Weve struggled for years now in this area. And this would be a shot in the arm. Reporter but the staff at the valley transportation authority, which is running the bart to Silicon Valley extension is now proposing eliminating the alum rock stop altogether. Do we have to apply for federal funds . The staff made a recommendation of different options of how we can apply for federal funds to make ourselves most competitive. Reporter this is the Board Chairman for vta and wants to keep the alum rock station. But he also has to listen to the vta staff and also look for alternative funding for the alum rock project, a project expected to cost hundreds of millions of dollars. The staff, their job is to put all the options on the table. We are disappointed. And were feeling betrayed. Reporter especially say the neighborhood groups since theyve worked on this plan together with vta for more than a decade. And this is all part of phase 2 of the bart to san jose project. Phase 1 ends at the berryessa station. They go before the board next week to make a presentation. Thats why the folks are scrambling to meet and see how they can strategize. Thousands of nurses across the bay area and the country are gearing up for what they call the Largest Health and safety action in u. S. History. And its all about ebola. Nbc bay areas Jodi Hernandez is at the skieser in walnut creek. Jodi, this could be a very big statement. Reporter its a big statement. Nurses say over a critical issue. Protecting nurses and their patients from ebola. In less than two weeks from now, nurses say they will walk the picket line outside this Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in walnut creek and at others across the bay area. We are going to strike, and were going to strike as long as it takes. Reporter thats the pledge from National Nurses united. Fed up with what they call a lack of ebola protections at hospitals across the country, nurses say theyll hold a national day of action on november 12th. Weve given these hospitals across the country so much time, its disgraceful. They should have acted before we act. Nurses are incredibly concerned. We, again, are being asked to potentially care for patients with with a deadly virus and put our lives on the line. Reporter kaiser nurses say theyll take it a step further, holding a twoday strike. Some 18,000 nurses from 21 Northern California Medical Centers will walk the picket line. Big. Its going to be big. Its going to be big. In a statement, they say the claims cna is making about Kaiser Permanentes ebola preparedness in an attempt to justify a strike are simply untrue. Cna is well aware of Kaiser Permanentes comprehensive and thorough training and preparation for ebola. Not the case, say the nurses. They plan to strike. An alleged thief caught in the act, and now he is hospitalized, in critical condition. Richmond Police Officers say they were at the pacific east mall in richmond around noon today when they spotted a man breaking into a car. The detectives confronted him, and thats when the man jumped into another car and began to take off. One of the detectives did open fire, hitting the man. Police say attacked a woman early this morning just blocks from the stanford campus. Menlo park Police Released this sketch today of one of the suspects. All of them are described as hispanic males in their early 20s. About 56 and 130 pounds. Police say the female victim was taking out the trash behind an Office Building on the 100 block of El Camino Real when all of the sudden she was attacked. Witnesses say the suspect was seen in the area hours earlier. Police say he and two other men ran away when the woman screamed for help. She was not seriously injured. Maybe youve seen this video already. The motorcyclist who shot this viral video and refused an order to pull over faces a felony charge tonight of evading an officer. The chp identifies as professional rider guruardas singh khalsa from brentwood. He and 50 other riders are seen speeding and doing wheelies here on 680 here in the bay area. We are going to be seeking an additional search and arrest warrants in this matter, and that we do anticipate additional evidence surfacing and additional individuals taken into custody. Surveillance video and tips from the public helped track down an accused killer. Carl dubose was arrest new years day sacramento yesterday. He is suspected of shooting and killing a mother of four in oakland. Perla irvienna was killed while driving home from the grocery store. Today they say they have new information that may lead to a different motive, but they wasnt elaborate. Dubose has not been charged, but he faces murder charges. A police chase came to a streiching halt when a chp motorcycle officer smashed into a car. The officer had his lights flashing and sirens blaring while trying to catch a speeding driver in oakland. A guilty verdict has closed a chapter on an east bay cold case 30 years after a young girl was murdered. The 1984 death of tina fail stunned people who lived near Foothill High School in pleasanton. Fail was attacked and stabbed more than 40 times while walking home. At the time there was a talk that a fellow student, Steven Carlson was the killer. But it wasnt until a 2011 dna test that he was charged. And today a jury convicted him. Carlson now faces a sentence of 26 years to life in prison. The nfl fires back in a lawsuit filed by former players. Explayers, including former 49er star Jeremy Newberry are suing the league. Californias drought has been devastating to california agriculture. This watershed. Reporter as california remains in the grips of a devastating drought, mcnamara and other farmers have pinned their hopes on proposition 1. This is significant to us. Reporter its a 7. 5 billion bond that would make the biggest investment in the states Water Systems in at least six decades. In my 40 years of farming, its the most important proposition, most important legislation that ill have a chance to vote on. Reporter the bond would go toward a slough, projects aimed at improving the states ability to recycle and store water. It invests in waste water recycling, conservation, increased storage. Reporter a third of the money would go toward building several new dams and reservoirs. There is a large chunk of money in the bond, 2. 7 billion to improve storage to offset our loss of snowpack and to help us have water for these drought conditions. Reporter the drought has fuelled the fight over the states dwindling water supplies, pitting farmers against environmentalists and fishermen. The lines are now etched deeply in the details of prop 1. We dont need to get the bulldozers out and all the heavy equipment. Reporter berkeley salmon fisherman mike hudson calls prop 1 a waste of money. He says it wont fix the water flow problems that have diminished salmon populations on Northern California rivers. Proposition 1 is not going to stop it, halt it.
