There have been time when is it was so close and sparks landing in our yard that i thought our trees were going to catch on fire or our house burn down. I dont even want to be here tonight, so we will be at a hotel. Reporter enforcement will be at an all time high because of the extreme dry conditions. But the community has got to help. Neighbors have got to tell neighbors, as much as we love this old tradition, in a city like oakland, fireworks are dangerous. Theres a reason theyre illegal. Reporter she says the hotline will be fully staffed. But some say this isnteally an issue. Theyre nice to see and kids love the fascination with the colors. I love to see kids happy. Reporter and, again, opd is pressing anyone who sees fireworks not done by a professional show, they are illegal and call them in and make sure to note the address where theyre coming from. Firefighters and homeowners are keeping a close eye on the weather tonight, and so are all the organizers of the Fireworks Shows, theyre set up to light up the sky later tonight. Take a look at san jose where all that blue is promising for spectators. Should be a very nice view there tonight. Rob mayeda is keeping a close eye on the weather. San jose, prime viewing. Weve got breezy and dry conditions that have accelerated the fire danger, especially inland along solano county. Youve got the west wind up close to 20 Miles Per Hour. And thats a bit of a problem for San Francisco. As you can see over my shoulder, the golden gate bridge, the low clouds dropping below 600 feet. Youre seeing the fog start to move in. Closer to San Francisco, weve been seeing the low clouds starting to creep in over downtown. So the forecast for the next 24 hours for independence fireworks viewing around San Francisco, well continue to bring in patches of low clouds. As we see temperatures a little bit on the cool side. Well see numbers in the upper 50s as the night goes on, but san jose, prime viewing. Well see clear skies for that. Mid60s out there this weekend. But get ready for 90s in the forecast coming um. It will be loud tonight. Fireworks in several cities. Among the biggest gatherings will be in downtown san jose. After a sixyear absence, the Fireworks Show is back in business. Nbc bay area is live from downtown. What does it take to pull this off . Reporter well, quite a bit. Theyve been setting up all day. In fact, theyre putting the finishing touches on this fireworks set up right now. People are starting to file in, in the distance, trying to get a good spot for the first fireworks display since 2008. The company out of oakland has set up 800 fireworks for the 20minute show. The event was canceled six years ago due to budget cuts. The rotary of san jose raised 200,000 to bring it back. The city and county donated half of that money. And the rotary Club President is expecting clorowds to show them welcome back. To get people downtown, thats exciting. You dont do that in your back yard. I dont care how illegal you are. We hope people come downtown, forget the illegal fireworks. Weve got things controlled here. And theyre going to see something they havent seen anywhere else. Reporter he told me in his 28year career, this is the most fireworks he has set up for one show. They are set off to go up at 300, 400, 500 feet up in the air. And they will also practice getting people in and out of a crowded public event tonight using this event as a preparation for 49ers games at levis stadium. That show is expected to last 20 minutes. Investigators say one of the victims, an 85yearold woman was robbed and sensually assaulted in a predawn break in. The womans husband was also hurt. A lot of people are taking cal train into the city, hoping to avoid that traffic. Hundreds of people arrived in San Francisco late this afternoon on cal train, ready for fireworks. We usually take cal train because theres so many cars on the road right now. Its kind of unsafe. Reporter with the northbound lanes of interstate 280 closed until monday morning due to construction, many spectators didnt want to take their chances on the roads. Traffic is horrible. And with gas prices, and, you know, we know San Francisco really well. We get on the train. We pretty much go where we want. Reporter muni is offering extra service and running shuttles from the cal train station to the wharf. Meanwhile, crews spent time loading pyrotechnics onto the barges. The barges will be moved into place by pier 39 a couple hours before the show begins. Jeff thomas of pyrospectacular says skies have been clear the last two years on the fourth, but he says if the fog rolls in tonight, the show will go on. Weve prepared the show to go with multiple playelayers in th. So if there is fog, we can still see the show. Reporter some spectators have already secured their spots at aquatic park. So a bit of a slow down there, but still moving. So thats good. We have new details on the fire burning in napa county. Some very good news. Evacuation orders have been lifted. Roads were reopened today. And hundreds of families are able to return home now. The fire is about 535 containe right now. Its burned about 4300 eracres since tuesday. Take a look at this. It unfolded a little after midnight. Police were chasing a car they say was stolen from a dealership. The driver of that tesla hit a honda carrying five people and hit a light pole. The front of the tesla set on fire and the back half wound up in a nearby synagogue. One person is in Critical Condition from the tesla as well as from the honda. We have new video of what arthur left behind. The storm hit the outer banks the hardest. It packed 100mileperhour winds. Hurricane arthur just came screaming up this beach, but when it left, officials were pleased to find that it didnt cause nearly as much damage as it could have. People along the North Carolina outer banks are breathing a sigh of relief today. In the wake of hurricane arthur which came ashore overnight as a category two storm. I think we dodged one, and the weather is moving out smartly to sea. Reporter despite packing 100 Miles Per Hour sustained winds, the fastmoving storm did little damage, leaving behind only minor flooding and a little structural damage. Were lucky, really lucky. And those who decided to stay and wait out this storm spent the day on the beach and resumed their fourth of july festivities tonight with fireworks. You can see what was hurricane arthur just east of cape cod. That caused a change of plans. The rain bands still impressive, wrapping into our inland areas. Over towards hartford. Look at the impact. Weve got Tropical Storm warnings up there around cape cod. And you see coastal flood advisories still down toward Atlantic City and heading up towards maine. As it accelerates away from the coast, its still a category one hurricane but weakens as it continues to move away from the coast. It will take it out toward the north atlantic and to longer be an issue for the east coast at least in the next 24 hours or some of the bay area, the biggest concern is the fog. Heres a view, actually just out from at t park. Its a view we can kind of see the building tops nearby and the flags blowing about quite a bit. And yes, the fog is starting to come in. You can see the clear skies to the south around san jose. Hour by hour tonight you can see the low clouds briefly spilling toward oakland. We could have mist at the coast tomorrow. But inland areas seeing a lot of sunshine, and the temperatures are going to start to climb up rather quickly. Today we saw highs as high as the mid to upper 70s. Heres your future cast through tomorrow morning through about mid and mid afternoon into the evening you can see 90s showing up. 86 in san jose 5 00 tomorrow. Thats pretty warm. The fact that he stood out there and was actually thanking us, and we decided to thank him. It turned into an important thing. Reporter some of the advocates arrived before 6 00 this morning. Police had to get in between them and divide this group. [ shouting ] reporter tensions were high as pro and antiimmigration groups squared off in front of the Border Patrol detention center. Police arrested one man for trying to incite the Group Calling themselves the patriots. At the center of the debate are undocumented immigrant children, mostly from central america. Some came with parents. Many came alone, after rumors spread throughout their countries that the United States was granting children permits to stay in this country. An overwhelmed Border Patrol in texas began shipping thousands of those children across the country. When three buses arrived at the murrieta detention center, angry protesters blocked the entrance, forcing buses to turn around. Tonight protesters wait to see if the second wave of buses arrive. There are chants of usa on one side and other chants on the other side. Both sides say they plan to stay here until this issue is resolved. We will have crew this is that city throughout the night. Murrieta city manager released a Statement Today clarifying the mayors criticism. Todays statement by the city manager expressed regret that the bus loads of women and children were forced to turn around and backed off the mayors earlier criticism. He is sitting here on a small stool making a painting in yosemite. Reporter its inspired many to climb to new heights. Many of the technology that the climbers take for granted today, including the roping methods and the shoes, they were developed in yosemite. Well see temperatures in the mid60s later on this evening toward 8 00. A different story as you look from the east bay over to San Francisco. This is a little bit of an early arrival. Can you see the low clouds, low enough to clip the tops of those buildings downtown, including the Transamerica Pyramid which means the base of these clouds, closer to 200, to 300 feet off the ground. This is patchy, low cloud cover. And we hope to get a break. You can see them move pretty quickly. Right now plan on some fog there around San Francisco. 62 degrees. And you can see the fog already all the way over towards emeryville and trying to get into oakland, but san jose and the south bay in the clear right now. And well continue to see clear skies for the south bay and now towards the tri valley. We have some gusty winds, close to 20. But it will be quite cool, 50s and 60s for fireworks for most of the bay area. Except for danville. Well see temperatures running a little warmer further inland. For tomorrow, patchy low clouds for the inland in the morning. Tomorrow, plan on a view kind of like youre seeing right knew in San Francisco with areas of low clouds coming in with misty skies for the coast. Then were going to get some clearing, and our temperatures trying to climb on up. Tomorrow 80s to low 90s around our valleys. And as we approach sunday and monday we will see temperatures climbing even more. This will include sunday where some temperatures inland could approach the upper 90s. One thing to watch for the weekend is we could see thundershowers at times around lake tahoe. And then our temperature also cool heading towards tuesday and wednesday. You see that in the sevenday forecast. So the weekend finishing on a warm note. Should be approaching 90 in san jose from sunday into monday before we cool down into the middle of the week. For the north bay youll see highs around mid80s tomorrow. Low 90s on our way by the end of the weekend. Approaching 100 degrees by monday.
