Tonight San Francisco fire spokesman confirms to me that sfo fire rescue at sfos airport had received that technology, but it had not been installed at the time of the crash. The devices were brought from a Canadian Company called eagle eye. As these brochures show, they use gps, infrared and computers to allow firefighter does maneuver safely through the fog, smoke and debris. It detects heat, but that can also help find human bodies, hidden in haze, smoke, or yes, even in firefighting foam. Again, it was in the process of being installed at sfo but was not yet operational. Sfo rescue units will continue to install this equipment and hopefully it will be up and running in the next couple of weeks. No one knows for certain if this system would have seen that teenager through the foam in the chaos in the runway, but experts say it might have helped. This is very new technology and is only nowing installed in major airports around the country. We have confirmed it is being used right now at san jose airport as well as Boston Logan Airport as well as airports in vancouver and cincinnati. Well stay on this story. Thank you.
