A week after the fire broke out incredible rescue stories continue to come out of there. It is slow going for these folks heading back to see what is left of their homes. We were there today, people said they were kind of their second family, some good acts, a story last night of a 93yearold woman and her dog saved by a gay warden, here is her family posting messages. Thank you, ryan. Thanks for everybody. Some good stuff there, yet, Catherine Ray who uses a wheelchair had fallen asleep as the fire hit her neighborhood. But she was found in time to be carried to safety. Moments later flames reached her house, all happens in the community of Hidden Valley lake. And the warden is hailed as a hero, one working as an evacuation worker, when an emergency call came out about a woman trapped in her home. Now, the rescuers raced through flames to help the woman and her 11 monthold granddaughter. He says it is an experience he will never forget. I was trying to get her going, she was trying to pack her suitcase and get her shoes and stuff. I tried to explain look we need to go, i carried the baby and got her suitcases and got them loaded up. The only reason i took a picture of the baby, i wanted to take a picture and kind of brag to my wife. But i didnt know it was going to turn into this. Reporter and how about this . Another elderly woman was rescued, this time trapped upstairs in her home that same day. Now, we got a lot of good stories. And we heard of a man leaving the fair grounds and says he knows for a fact he did lose his home. And hundreds more homes destroyed by flames. Tonight, we learned the butte fire in amador and calaveras county, we know that two people died after ignoring orders to evacuate. Now it is the first time this couple was back in their home. After spending their 46th wedding anniversary under evacuations, the couple spent the afternoon evaluating their property for potential hazards. It feels wonderful. I was so happy. Just knowing we got through. We have been trying for a few days. The fire has scorched more than 70,000 acres. The firefighters have the butte fire 65 contained. Police say the victim was walking home in the area of fifth and d streets when she noticed a man coming up from behind her. The suspect said hello, grabbed her and ran off after she started to scream. Police say the incident not believed to be connected to the Sexual Assault of a woman inside her home in south petaluma. A followup to a hacking attack that hit local news sites this week, those sites are back up and now running. Thursday, somebody brought down all the embarcadero media sites, and produced this. Which is usually associated with a hacker group. Anonymous. And the pleasanton weekly, all of them affected. Today, they were restored. The Palo Alto Weekly says there is no evidence that readers emails, and passwords were hacked but you should still change them to be on the safe side. The fbi is now investigates along with the palo alto and Mountain View police departments. And a followup now, they were parked outside the los gatos stores for years, they claimed to collect money for veterans, but were they ripping you off the whole time . Reporter we first introduced you to bob last month after viewer and veteran bill called in. Posing as veteran bob and fallon, they say the cash they collected goes to the homeless and disabled vets. The majority of the funds will provide outreach money to get the veterans who are living outdoors to the v. A. Reporter the men could not provide any evidence they were helping anyone but themselves. You said that you donate 100 of your cash donations to veterans. Your colleague says he gets to keep 40 of that. Can you talk to us a little bit more about how youre actually helping veterans . After we exposed a group of members lying about working with a county Veterans Court and the office of Veterans Services you responded, sending emails about other groups set up in front of bay area stores. Meanwhile, a lawyer for the Shopping Center in los gatos emailed us to say we are very grateful that nbc brought this matter to the publics attention and that the center endured over eight years of trespassing and harassing activities but these fraudulent solicitors, but if it happens again there is only one way to make sure they stop collecting money. But is there an upside for the farmers during the drought . The lack of water farmers say is devastating. But the farmers now in california are making more money. Sam brock has todays reality check. Including this modesto almond farmer paul wangar who worries the reservoirs will eventually drop up his profit and farm. This year we cut back 10 of our orchards, and wont plant them back until we have the surface water with the reservoir or the wells will be good enough to let us plant the orchards back. Reporter its a story line that many farmers know all too well. Fallowed land, faint profits. Except, one highly respected Research Group says the revenues are not going down, theyre going up. And the places we normally expect to find cooling youre not seeing it right now. 91 in tiburon, wind out of the west, still in oakland, also 82. Across the inland locations 86 in san jose, low 90s south of downtown. And livermore, trivalley still at 94 degrees. Wind direction now late day direction picking up. The wind directions will shift tomorrow morning, an offshore breeze, 90s around santa cruz, and we could see near 90 degree temperatures around San Francisco and 100 degree temperatures across the interior valleys. And with High Pressure acting like a lid on top of the bay area, tomorrow is a spare the air day for the east bay and south areas. Morning temperatures, not all that bad. Napa, you will still need a jacket for the morning with the numbers in the mid50s. Numbers 80s, 90s, high temperatures around san jose in the upper 90s tomorrow.
