Titans of mavericks opened tuesday, november 1st and surfers expected to compete are excited about the upcoming swells with hopes the contest might be on. Absolutely all im thinking about right now. Reporter a surf champion could also be competing. The contest now features a heat to go along with the fullfledged competition by the top 24 male surfers. The heat was added after the california Coastal Commission required mavericks to include women in order to get a contest permit. Contest organizers defended the delay and said in their view, this was the first time they have had enough qualified women surfer. The organizers pointed out, they then went a step further. So we had a plan for next year. Were stepping on the gas, were accelerating that plan right now and going to hold the event this season. And while california is typically a blue state, our field poll gives clinton a slight edge in areas of california that often go red. And the south coast area, which includes orange and san diego counties, clinton has a narrow lead over trump, 45 to his 42 . According to a lawsuit filed this morning against uber, flywheel claims uber is offering prices 10 to 45 below Taxi Companies. When you provide services at a lower price to put competitors out of business, that allows you to monopolize and raise the prices to whatever you want. Reporter the suit claims uber is using investor dollars to cover the lost profits from low pricing, in an effort to mon monopolize the market. Uber customers tell us they choose ridesharing over taxis on cost and convenience. Cheaper than taxis. Cabs have to figure out a way to get into the battle. An east bay woman heartbroken after she says an Animal Rescue group let her adopt a poodle only to take it back by force. She is sharing what she calls her pet adoption nightmare. Jodi hernandez is live in antioch. This woman says she is devastated. Reporter she is absolutely heartbroken. That oakley woman says she had just gotten over the death of her dog of 14 years when she came to this petsmart to adopt another little dog. Little did she know, her heart would be broken all over again. The sweetest little dog i have ever met in my life. Reporter Lori Schwartz called it love at first sight. Early last month, schwartz adopted this oneeyed poodle from a rescue group called halo that was holding an adoption fair at petsmart. When i saw this dog and i fell in love with it, i took it home and now im heart sick. Reporter schwartz told the rescue group, she has a fulltime job and no other pets. And after paying 300, she took c÷ blinky. Nobody said anything. They gave me the dog, and told me to love it. And i did. I fed him, i loved him. I knitted him a little jacket. I bought him a jacket. I mean, ive treated him like hes my little boy. Reporter but three weeks later, she says a representative of the rescue group came to poodle needs a stayathome mom and pet companions. Even complaining about his new name. Changing his name, letting him sleep on the sofa. I turned him into a couch potato. I didnt realize that during the day i should have enrolled him in aerobics. Reporter but its what happened next thats left schwartz devastated. And like an idiot, i let her hold my dog when she asked to and then she and her friend went running out of my house with the dog. Reporter we tried to reach out to that rescue group called halo, which stands for Homeless Animals lifeline organization, but they did not respond to our phone calls or to our email. But for much of the day, it was a wet mess. Fremont police got a call about a water main break. Water was flooding mission boulevard and nursery avenue shortly before 1 00 p. M. Reporter raj, every floor here at San Jose City hall is talking about tuesdays election and no doubt interested in what this judge had to say in superior court in San Francisco. Ive seen the selfies of a lot of City Employees here on social media. No doubt, they have a lot of interest in what came down today. The judge, again, in San Francisco says you cant show where you vote when you vote. The aclu had challenged the ruling by the secretary of state, which prohibits selfies inside the voting booth. The decision was a surprise to some, considering the governor recently signed a law repealing the ban on sharing photos of your marked ballot. But that bill doesnt take effect until january 1st. The aclu argued selfies are a formal of free speech, but the federal judge ruled the aclu filed its claim too late. Employees and visitors at San Jose City hall had mixed reactions. I dont really take selfies that often, so its not that big of a deal to me. I dont like selfies in the voting booth. I take selfies all of the time. Reporter were you thinking in the voting booth . I dont know. Reporter the Attorney Says he is disappointed in todays ruling but doesnt think he can appeal that ruling, because the election again is only six days away.
