Well know more about the impact pap. What happened today happened quickly. Word went out the verdict was coming in and 20 minutes later all the attorneys from both sides and all the jurors were gone. We do have pictures from inside the courtroom from our courtroom artist. He says it happened quickly, the jury finding pg e guilty on five counts of violating Pipeline Safety regulations. And one count of obstructing the federal investigation of the san bruno gas explosion. You remember that 20ton explosion killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. Pg e was exceeding federal pressure standards on the pipe that blew up and failed to inspect the pipes as required after exceeding those pressure limits. San brunos City Attorney had this reaction moments ago. We hope the judge sends pg e a pes message that its not okay to risk peoples lives by having inadequate records, manipulating the data, and misleading federal investigations. Reporter the City Attorney wants the judge to appoint a monitor to keep track of pg es activities at the Public Utilities commission, to have an outside voice keeping track of the utility. This was a criminal trial but no one from the company is going to be locked up. The Company Faces the possibility of a fine of 3 million. The City Attorney says its not about money, its about sending a message. The jury acquitted the company on charges of failing to keep proper records of past leaks and records of High Pressure water tests. They had 12 counts, the jury found them guilty of six, acquitted them on six. The meat of this trial was cut about a meat ago when federal prosecutors abandoned their attempt to get a 500 million in fines levied against pacific gas and electric. When the City Attorney stets are says its not about the money, it is really not about the money, that happened last week. Today the verdict now, well wait and see what that penalty is from the judge. Pg e has been under tremendous scrutiny since the explosion and during this entire trial. Minutes after the verdict this afternoon, pg e releasing this statement, take a look. This verdict is a painful reminder of the tragedy. The explosion left a crater that was 40 feet deep. Eight people were kill the. 38 homes destroyed. Were getting a look at a unique smash and grab robbery in San Francisco. It happened around 3 00 this morning near fishermans wharf. Video shows four men using a long pole and a van like a battering ram. Police say they smashed into a store called the digital center. The thieves grabbed tons of cameras and got away. A close call in downtown palo alto. A huge piece of concrete fell off a building right onto the sidewalk on University Avenue. Nbc bay areas Michelle Roberts is there in palo alto. The main concern now im assuming, any more loose parts on that building . Reporter the city inspectors say at this point theres no immediate risk, but likely the opener will have to make serious repairs. I want you to take a look behind me. It looks like about a tenpound chunk of concrete went falling onto the sidewalk. Now theyre going to have to figure out what exactly caused this. Its a little scary about the architecture. Reporter people strolling along University Avenue were stunned to hear a decorative cornice fell 30 feet onto the sidewalk over the weekend. Probably not good for the business. Reporter thankfully no one was injured. But today a palo alto city spokesperson says engineers are keeping a close eye on the Historic Bank building built in 1906. The Building Owner is working with a team to make sure that they are reinforcing any of the concrete so that we dont have a situation like this in the future. Reporter city spokesperson katherine elburn says engineers have deemed the building structurally sound. Even though there are visible cracks in other areas of the facade. This particular piece of concrete seemed to be of the worst condition of the cornices up there on the building. Reporter some pedestrians were unsettled to see the gaming hole in the building. They should fix it, make it right. Reporter the Building Owner did not respond to our calls today. And ultimately they are the ones who are responsible for making the repairs. We are getting ready for showdowns in rio. Its been a strong day for several of our bay area athletes. The u. S. Womens soccer team just wrapped up its third game. It was a draw 22 against colombia. Four members of team usa have bay area ties in judo its a silver medal for former san jose state spartan travis stevens, the First American man to win a medal in judo in 12 years. The u. S. Womens Water Polo Team won their opener against spain. Team usa is led by captain maggie stefans of danville. The women will be back in action on thursday. A tough loss for the u. S. Salute in richmond has been a popular dining spot for more than two decades. In fact, many consider it an absolute treasure. Tonight the community is outraged after learning it may be forced to close its doors. I put my heart and my soul in this restaurant. Reporter for years salute restaurant has been serving up fine food, both to client and those in need. Her annual mothers day and thanksgiving dinners for the homeless have fed countless stomachs and souls. That excitement to come here, to be served in this restaurant reporter but salutes days may be numbered. The marina bay eatery slapped with a 30day eviction order. The buildings owner claims the restaurants plumbing hasnt been properly maintained. Theres a mens best room, the toilets been leaking for years. You see the picture of dry rot. Theres human waste underneath the restaurant. Reporter she says they passed a Health Inspection with flying colors last week. The Health Department concluding the complaint was invalid. Tonight the community is rallying behind salute, showing their support at a morning press conference. Even the mayor is vowing to fight the eviction. All i can say is one way or another were going to fix this. Reporter i talked to the Building Owner on the phone today who says her sole concern is protecting the building that she and her husband built and love. But she says she may be willing to negotiate with the restaurant owner. Im very open to it, she says. In about an hour hundreds of people are expected to pack into the Los Gatos Town Council chambers. The topic, a development known as the north 40s. The plan calls for 320 homes and 66,000 acres of Retail Stores all on orchard land between highway 17 and los gatos boulevard. Last month the Planning Commission voted not to recommend the proposed development to the town council. Tonight the council gets to decide. Opponents say the santana rowlike development does not match the character of los gatos. An act of kindness that changes the life of a young person makes for a great story. Youd think that even not knowing about her learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or cerebral palsy, which is what one man didnt know before doing something very special for her. For someone whos been on this earth 21 trips around the sun, Kayla Jiminez has an awfully small orbit. In her room, drawing and painting is where youll find her most of the time. While having disabilities, i would say im different. Reporter kaylas disabilities came at birth. A very premature one. Along with twin brother chris. Says mom Shelley Chris had a 50 50 chance of being born alive. And kayla had a 0 chance. Reporter in spite of those odds it is chris who is the more disabled of the two. And caring for him is why the family spends most of their time at home. 24 7. Pretty much, yeah. Reporter about the only time kayla ventures out is to walk along lincoln avenue in downtown willow glen. Though never meeting or even talking with anyone. Ive never had friends. Reporter which explains all that time doing art. Enough time, in fact, that Something Special happened along the way. Kayla got really good. Though no one outside of her family knew it. Until, that is, on one of her walks she made this sketch of the garden theater. Her mom emailed it around and it was forwarded to the buildings owner, who liked it so much he asked if he could hang it there. I wanted to cry. At the time that was the biggest thing to ever happen to me. Reporter the biggest thing until others started noticing her talent as well. Bob paez asked her for art for his barbershop. This is for you. Reporter michael mutual day hee, owner of the garden theater, asked for another painting of a restaurant he owns. Michael said he had no idea about kaylas special needs when he asked for the first picture, he just loved the art. To know that hes drawing such a talented young woman out into the world is just a wonderful bonus. Im so grateful that we actually got to know kayla. Reporter kayla says having her artwork displayed along the avenue makes her happy. To have friends there too now, well, thats even better. In san jose, garvin thomas, nbc bay area news. Now it was warm as expected for inland. Alameda county right now 86 in livermore. You can leave the window cracked tonight. A nice breeze in the overnight hours as temperatures will drop into the 60s by 10 00 p. M. Looks great all around as we start off the morning. In terms of the microclimate forecast, not much of a change for tomorrow. Well get a slight ocean breeze building in from the south across morgan hill. It will be 82, warmer away from that breeze in san jose at 86. For the peninsula, 74 in san mateo. 79 in palo alto. 60s here throughout San Francisco. And mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. For the north bay, east bay, and trivalley, a few isolated 90s possible. Best chance across livermore, 90 degrees. East bay, walnut creek at 89. And oakland looking at a cooler 72 degrees. For the north bay, napa at 87. As we push ahead toward thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, we will be tracking some changes. The trough of low pressure thats brought us enjoyable weather the past couple of days moves off toward the east. We have these two areas of High Pressure. Those build in to warm up our temperatures for this weekend. San francisco, this will bring us into the upper 60s on saturday and sunday. For the inland valleys, no 100s. Thats still the good news.
