and three other officers were saying in their texts and what is happening on the street. >> is it a coincidence that we've had a number of people of color who have been shot down by the police? >> reporter: he said the police chief is not doing enough. it was just a year ago that eight other officers were found to have been trading similar texts. this afternoon, chief suhr responded. >> make no mistake about it. we now have 11 officers that have engaged in such behavior. 11 officers who were sent swiftly to the commission for termination. >> reporter: he's out of the department now and up on charges of misusing databases. they're in an ongoing battle to keep their jobs. chief suhr says he will continue to push for their dismissal. >> in the 99.9% of this police department is feeling the same way i am. >> reporter: come up at 6:00, jeff adachi outlines the steps necessary to clean up the police department. chief suhr's reaction is of particular interest. he says it's already under way. reporting, mark matthews, nbc bay area news. new at 5 tonight, answers for a family whose 3-year-old boy was kidnapped more than 30 years ago. someone abducted clark honda from his home in 1984. the kidnapper at the time left a ransom note demanding money. the boy's family never heard from anyone and never saw clark again. in 2011, investigators re-examined the case and say they found evidence that led them to this suspect. prosecutors charged michael fejarang. he was a family friend of the handas. he's currently in prison for an unrelated child molestation case. troubling new details on a murder mystery in san jose. a couple found dead in their home over the weekend. but within the past hour, we've learned police can't find one of their sons. nbc ba yy area's marianne favro. >> reporter: absolutely, there were messages written on both the floor and the wall and we'll get to that. this is where the couple live. you can see people have left flowers here on the driveway. we watched as detectives esco escorted in family members of the victims. sources who say they went inside the home right after the killings say someone had written disturbing messages on the walls and floor. they were found shot to death inside their home sunday afternoon. we talked to sources who said they were asked by the victim's family to come inside the house after the killings. they say that's when they saw messages written. including one on the floor that said sorry my kill was clumsy. the sources allege they read another message on the wall that said something like i can't be with you telling a lie. i can't love someone without telling them. claiming somewhere in the message was a comment that the wife begged for her life. >> my shock has even increased more. >> reporter: he has known the couple 30 years. >> very polite, very humble and which is the reason why i am finding it so difficult to what happened, the violent end to such humility, such politeness, how peaceful. >> reporter: he says golaman moved from bangladesh and worked as an engineer. she was an accountant. help said they were dedicated volunteers at the islamic center. we talked to neighbors who told us they never heard anything unusual. so far, police have made no arrests. police will not confirm to us whether there were writings on the wall or the floor, but police do tell us they are still trying to track down the son of the couple who is in his 20s. they have already spoken to the teenaged son but they're still looking for the son in his 20s. they say at this point he is not a suspect but they do want to talk to him to see if he can offer any information which we help in this investigation. police also tell us they do not believe this was a hate crime. reporting live in san jose, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. >> that is a tragic and disturbing murder for sure. the fines are going away for water guzzlers in the east bay but that does not mean you can leave the water running. excessive water use penalties started four years ago and raked in more than a half million dollars. on though the bay area has had a wetter than normal season, we're still in a drought, so officials are urging customers to continue to conserve. the santa clara valley water board is discussing the current water supply and our drought status. officials are expected to decide whether to strongest wind, will head to the north. we'll get the tail end of this cold front moving in across the region through tomorrow. so here's how we see it. by 8:00 in the morning, maybe a spotty shower up in maran napa sonoma counties. we'll see things pick up by the morning. note, it's very scattered. hit and miss activity for the bay area around 11:00 tomorrow morning. we're tracking the full time minutes ago, the polls closed. it's expected trump and clinton will win their primaries but the question tonight, by how much? that's the real issue. as the two other republican candidates are hoping to block trump. five states are voting today. pennsylvania, connecticut, maryland, rhode island and delaware. front-runners trump and clinton are marching towards the delegate count needed to secure their party's nomination. nbc bay area's bpeggy bunker. >> the numbers are just coming in. polls just closed at 8:00 p.m. eastern. we did just get information. right now trump, donald trump for the gop side, they're calling pennsylvania, maryland and connecticut for donald trump. too early to call, that would be delaware and rhode island. this is trump last night speaking at a rally in pennsylvania. we'll talk about that here in a quick minute. on the democratic side, these are the numbers we're just getting in. so far the only state that's been called in contender hillary clinton's corner here is maryland. too early for the other four states. both of them, both these front-runners feeling very confident about these five eastern states but at this point since the polls just closed these are very early numbers. you can see here, hillary clinton went ahead to indiana today. where she toured a manufacturing plant. shep was so confident, she left these five states today and went ahead to indiana which will hold their primary later. she will later return to pennsylvania which is a very delegate rich state, for a speech later on this evening. basically, both of these front-runners are looking for the message this will give them in this presidential race to show some of their contenders. to show either we are the front-runners, either quit and is up port us, but once again, these are early numbers, they'll be waiting for the math to back that up. >> we'll track this throughout the evening. tonight, city leaders are demanding better protection for tenants. they've unveiled their proposal in front of a building that's been gutted by several fires inclouding one just last night. it was also the scene of a fatal fire last year. the new rules will require landlords to prove each year that their buildings, the fire alarms, are working properly. >> this legislation is going to have the greatest impact on our poorest and working class residents that live often in our oldest buildings that are often very dense, are wooden in structure. and often most vulnerable to fires. >> the legislation would also make sure that tenants who have been displaced by fires be given a time line for repairs. we have new details on a bay area baby-sitter accused of shaking and hitting a 10-month-old baby. it appears she advertised on care.com. we found this of michaela weary on the state. she describes herself as a business student with nine years experience with children. danville police arrested leery last friday for child abuse. officers say the parents saw her hurt their 10-month-old child on a nanny cam. police are not releasing that video. it's not clear if the video used care.com to find reary and as for the 10-month-old little girl, she is okay but she was taken to the hospital after the incident and transferred to oakland children's hospital as a precaution. new problems for bart tonight. crews will stop testing its brand-new train of cars after one of them crashed. you saw the aftermath last friday. one of the new cars somehow got away and crashed into a sand berm during testing. the berm was set up for just that kind of accident so there was no serious damage. but investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash. they're now suspending testing until they figure out exactly what went wrong. he said it's been the hardest year of his life but it also comes with a nice reward. today, steve kerr was named the nba's coach of the year. kerr's the third war years coach to win this award. he led the team to the best regular season record in nba history but also missed the warriors first 43 games while recovering from back surgery. he suffered debilitating headaches stemming from his surgery. today, he got they approach. this new plan would take planes over the bay, avoiding the neighborhoods. many say it would be a welcome change. this is what people who live near the san carlos airport say they hear has been flooded with noise complaints. today, he asked the county board of supervisors to increase restrictions to address the issue. >> what used to be a quiet little county airport has somehow become a commercial airport. >> reporter: thanks to the success of surf a a private airliner that offered a couple dozen flights out of san carlos every day. a couple weeks ago, the pilots began flying over 101 to avoid noise issues in atherton. >> kind of a noise corridor rather than directly over the areas. >> they come right over my house about every eight minutes. >> reporter: if the faa approves a new flight path, surf air says pilots will begin flying over the bay to avoid neighborhoods. but still many worry about a noisy future. >> i'm hoping that they will limit the number of flights that they can have and that they can change the flight patterns. >> reporter: the county has the ability to cap the number of flights that come and go. right now, they're surveying the issue and taking public comment before they make a decision. reporting live in redwood city, michelle roberts, bay area news. the issue of homelessness in san francisco can seem overwhelming. >> one san mateo is swinging into action by helping one person. garvin thomas has tonight's bay area proud. >> reporter: it is an odd thing about life on the streets. that the very thing homeless people don't have is what many become experts at creating. >> i'm a grand master at building houses. >> reporter: steve gets to practice every single night. >> 365 houses a year. >> reporter: such temporary shelters have been part of steve's life for the past three years. perhaps, though, not much longer. >> i guess it's -- >> reporter: if lisa has any say. >> -- i see someone who needs, if i can, i help, isn't that if you can, you should? >> reporter: lisa and steve became friends when she volunteered to teach sewing to the city's needy like steve. he lost his place to live not long after that. but didn't lose his friend. >> so you'll let me know if you need help? >> reporter: lisa, who lives in san mateo, still visits steve every week, trying to make him feel better. all the while making herself feel worse. >> it's sad. i just -- i go to visit him and all he has, everything he owns, is in a shopping cart and it's just a bunch of junk. i can't imagine living like that. i just can't. >> reporter: it was beyond frustrating. the one thing her friend needed was a home. and lisa couldn't give it to him. or could she? last fall, lisa, with the help of a friend, began building in the driveway of her home. >> looking good. >> reporter: a tiny home on wheels, one she vows to deliver to steve when it's done. >> i get to look back on my life and say i improved the quality of someone's life. i feel that gives me purpose in my life. >> it's a gleam of hope. >> reporter: steve has not seen the home yet. but lisa has shared pictures of the progress. she predicts he will cry tears of joy when she drops it off in the city. and she -- well, she looks forward to not crying on the drive home. i guess you could tell, she's doing it obviously her labor and a friend's labor. the looks like the clouds are changing right above us. >> that will bring us the possibility of rainfall. it still was a little breezy outside. we have a mix of sun, clouds. still keeping us at 70 in the north bay. san francisco, colder, 56. the south bay also coming in with 60s. tomorrow morning's forecast. even though we push ahead towards the chance of rain on wednesday. you'll see for 95% of the bay area for the morning commute, we are expecting dry conditions but cloud cover on the increase. that's from san francisco down to the south bay with temperatures in the upper 40s to 50s. with the best chance of any spotty showers for the commute right up across the north bay and 46. that's what i want to get to next. that's the timing on the storm system. you can see once again, maybe a hit or miss shower. once we hit 11:00 in the morning, the cold front will begin to move across. what you really need to know about this storm system, it's not like our classic winter storms where we'll get a ton of rainfall here from the north bay to the south bay. it will certainly be very hit and miss as the cold front is just lacking a lot of upper level energy and moisture. sure, it's going to produce something into the afternoon with maybe an isolated thunderstorm but it's not going to be the 1 to 2 inch storm system we could use. we may see some isolated thunderstorms pop up and that's really the biggest concern. rainfall totals. well, they're going to rain anywhere from .005 to .010 inch in the area. some of these totals could be higher. as we round things out with the storm system coming in, the best chance of any thunderstorms, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. may need to watch out for a little small hail as well. if you're doing any traveling, also, watch out for some snow showers up across the sierra. as we take you in to the microclimate forecast for tomorrow, temperatures cool by about 5 degrees. you'll see across the south bay, the best possibility of thunderstorms. for san francisco, we come in with low to mid-60s. for the north bay, east bay, trivalley, best chance of thunderstorms, napa and santa rosa. for the east bay, oakland, 67. trivalley, maybe a chance of a lightning bolt and some wet weather. after we get over the chance of rainfall for tomorrow, get ready for another big switch in the weather by this upcoming weekend. saturday's forecast for the trivalley, 81. by sunday, 88 degrees. that could even push up the north bay to 89 on sunday as well. cool tomorrow. chance of rain. by this weekend, much hotter. >> clean out the barbecues. intel slashing thousands of jobs.
