to this story. let's start about the distance. 50 yards, that's the equivalent to half a football field. it is believed the driver was going 140 miles an hour when he got airborne before slamming into right thing. >> reporter: when a violent crash takes someone close, revenge sometimes feels like a good response. an eye for an eye, a fair deem. >> that is not, however, how he handled it. >> i wasn't angry. i was sad. >> reporter: last august, his friend, deonte murphy, jr., a mount eden high school graduate with plans to join the marines was shot and killed walking a fe pail friend home late last night. raymond heard wlis mers from someone who wanted to take matters into their own hands and not leave justice to the police. >> that shocked me. that's not at all how i felt. it was that type of crowd and put themself above the law. >> raymond decided a much more fitting response, a dark act, was to shine the light, literally. you see, while re-visiting the spot where he was shot, raymond noticed just how dark it was at night. he contacted the city to see what he could do about it. a list of rules followed about making measurements, taking photographs and collecting signatures. all of which raymond spent weeks following. >> it was more than just doing something. it was helping the community and people. >> i didn't know they were going to do all of this. >> reporter: raymond's petition asked for lights to be added to a single pole near the crime scene. the city responded, though, with much, much more. last week lighting improvements were completed up and down the block. this admittedly shy 15-year-old had gotten the attention of his city leaders and earned their respect in the process. >> i think what a positive role model for the community. for his friends. this young man chose to take a different course of action. to be better for the community. to make the community safer. >> reporter: raymond says he never expected his plans to work so well, though he's happy it did. his was a simple hope, that this spot will never be darkened by violence again. >> it's one of the great examples of somebody what faced the challenge for justice and positive for the community. >> he put himself in a big role. >> let's talk about that rain. >> yeah, i know. >> it's a whole lot more. it's the beginnings of everything. we had a stationary front moving across seeing this trying to push out to the south. we had some in morgan hill. the complex system of wet weather, that's heading to saturday. likely by 5:30 tonight. watch out for that. it's heavy if terms of widespread rainfall. but you can't expect scattered rainfall. 52 on the east bay t. north bay starting off with 50. let's go ahead and arrange a time line as we head through the next 48 hours. what you will see tomorrow morning, once again, those scattered areas, moderate rain, a few isolated heavier pockets through the day, cloudy, a couple raindrops possible as we hit saturday morning, we see hit california. it will be between 3:00 and 10:00 at night for the bulls eye to reach 20 to 40 miles per hour, possibly a half inch to one inch of rain. when you add everything up, not only the rainfall chance for friday. also on saturday and lingering rain on sunday. we are still good for one-and-a-half inches of rain for alameda, san francisco county, right up to the north bay. we could be getting into a two-and-a-half inch plus territory. as we take it to your forecast for friday, we have temperatures in the 60s. we will have that chance for on again off again rain. for san francisco that will put it at 65 degree, also 6069 in palo alto. san jose at 69 as well. . >> you will be able see if your extended forecast here, rain again returns, scattered on friday, that's heavier rainfall arriving by saturday evening. particularly for this storm system, you do want to watch the small creek, rivers and streams back behind your house. you could get water rising quickly. winds 150 miles per hour out of the south. it looks like the coastal mountains and santa cruz mountains could have some of the stronger gusts. >> okay. thank you very much. as these storms roll if, you can
