injuries, and 12 have minor injuries. they were all taken to area hospitals. witnesses say it was a chaotic scene. >> and basically, the bus crashes here into the awning, you know, and first things first, like people trying to gather to see what just happened. apparently, got on top, got smashed in the front. he was stuck. they were yelling for help. the wires are cracking. crashed through the muni wires, and also you know, at that point, the awning falls down. and people start running over, even though the wires are falling on the street and it's a lot of commotion, people trying to figure out what's going on. >> you can see there are still a lot of crews here and there's a wire there that crews are going to have to deal with. that dangling over another tour bus. firefighters and police are now trying to piece together what exactly happened. they will be interviewing that driver. we're told he was also injured and transported, but he was alert and conscious. there's still lots to be cleaned up here. the scaffolding has been collapsed, multiple cars that will need to be cleared away. once all of that gets cleared away, they will be taking a close look at that tour bus to see if there was a mechanical problem. at that point, they don't know why the tour bus came speeded down post street into union square. whatever the cause, we do know 20 people were transported today in the afternoon of chaos here at union square. >> all right, jean, thank you. let's take you high above once again from our chopper. obviously, so many of us have been to union square for locals and tourists. it's very difficult to get speed on post street because of the traffic, but somehow, that tour bus driver was speeding down post street, leading up to the crash. 20 people have been taken to local hospitals. five of them in critical condition. and one of those eyewitnesses saying the muni wires up above, heard them crackling and cracking as the crash was happening. we'll stay on the story and we should also add, chief of police in san francisco, greg sur, says there's a heightened alert in san francisco. no connection know with what's happening in paris. however, a heightened police alert within sfpd in the streets of san francisco because of everything happening, not with this crash, but also what is happening overseas. this story is changing by the minute. we're constantly updating our app. it's a great resource for you, and our twitter and facebook feeds. we want to get back to our breaking news in paris. a night of terror which is still active at this hour. french police dealing with at least three locations in what appeared to be a coordinated terrorist attack. here is the latest information. the paris deputy mayor is reporting that at least 118 people are dead. in just one of the locations. a concert hall, and just in the past 90 minutes, french military stormed that concert hall and reportedly killed two terror suspects. >> the concert hall was one of three locations under attack. there are reports there are several more locations. the other was at a restaurant. at least confirmed here, at least ten people there are dead, and a reported bombing outside of the national soccer stadium in paris where there was a match happening. a friendly match between france and germany. so far, no one has claimed responsibility. we have multiple reports this evening. michelle roberts is in san francisco. we begin with scott budman from our newsroom where you have been monitoring everything. it's changing every minute here. >> you're right, raj. minute by minute, news is coming in. french president hollande declaring a state of emergency and has closed the country's borders. a number of video from sources on the ground in paris. within the last 90 minutes, the hostage situation inside a music hall has ended. the concert hall, we're told, had more than 100 hostages inside. we have heard of more than 100 deaths in the concert hall. trying to figure out how many. also an attack just outside the national soccer stadium in paris where officials are reporting at least one suicide bombing. and germany was going on. scott/on cam here in the french alliance, a nonprofit educational center in san francisco, he's desperate for more information. >> we don't know what's going to happen. it's really terrifying. >> he was able to get ahold of his old roommate who was safe inside her paris apartment. >> she can hear the shooting from her home. she's stuck in her home and scared, making sure enough else is going to happen. >> the french alliance director calls the horrendous attack an outrage. and hopes the people responsible for attacking his home town will be brought to justice. >> wehat the terrorists want to stop us in doing what we do, so we will not stop working and keep the peace. >> we have reached out to the french consulate here in san francisco. so far, they have not made any public comments tonight. reporting live in san francisco, michelle roberts, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. a california band was performing tonight inside of that concert hall that we're talking about in paris. the band is called eagles of death metal. they're from southern california. now, a short time ago, they post this on their facebook. they said they're still trying to determine the safety and whereabouts of the band members and the crew. they said their thoughts are with all of the people involved in this tragic situation. >> france's president francois hollande shut down the borders and has declared a state of emergency. in a televised address, he said france is taking extraordinary security measures to insure the public's safety. >> we can secure all the areas that might be -- i have also asked that the military bring some re-enforcements and are now in paris. >> he went on to stay france would stand firm and united against the attackers. he was actually at one of the attack sites, the soccer match, between france and germany, but was not hurt. >> business and tourism, a real pipeline between the bay area and paris. several flights daily from sfo to paris. let's bring in robert handa from sfo this evening. robert, we know the borders are closed there in france, but this does not include air travel, is that correct? >> that's right. we're here at the international terminal at sfo, and first of all, i can tell you that the statements that there is no credible evidence of a looming attack in the united states. certainly seems to reassure a lot of travellers here. up until then, had it been a hectic and emotional scene. now, a flight of air france left here about an hour ago, and there are also a lot of people here traveling to europe, all very concerned about what was going on in paris. we talked with some travelers who had friends in paris or around that area, and they say they contacted them immediately after hearing about the attacks. >> people that are closest to me were safe, but then -- >> what were they saying about the situation there? >> they were devastated, and the other one was like, i just got home. i'm safe. my mother is safe. thank you so much. >> did your friends say what was going on there right now? >> i mean, very, very chaotic situation out there. people are kind of terrified. security point of view out there, so kind of thank god the friends we know of were in good health. >> now, back here live at the international terminal, where you can see it has calmed down quite a bit, most of the travelers we talked to said they would not be changing their plans after these attacks. they seem determined not to be intimidated. the more direct flights that are going to france are later on tonight, and by then, we should see how the developing events there charlie hebdo left 13 people dead when two paris-born terrorists killed a cartoonist and staff members. four jew iish were killed in attacks two days later in a supermarket and a cafe. france has been on alert with experts saying another attack was imminent. since then, there have been a few smaller scale attacks including one on a paris-bound train in august. three sacramento men were on the train storm system to the north. this will bring us drastic changes this weekend. we'll let you know how much we pick up and when it arrives in the microclimate forecast. also, coming up, the old bay bridge is about to be demolished in a matter of seconds. the implosion planned for tomorrow, and a special technique crews are using to scare away sea life as it happens. and we continue to follow our breaking news in san francisco. union square at a crawl right now. major crash, a tour bus right next to the apple store that's under construction. at least 20 people have been rushed to local hospitals. we have an update coming up next. francisco. a doble decker tour b want to give you updates on the breaking news stories we're following two major stories. one in san francisco, our nbc chopper overhead. down below, a double decker tour bus that crashed at union square just a couple hours ago. this is from our chopper. at least 20 people have been rushed to local hospitals. five in critical condition, no word yet on what caused this driver to crash, but witnesses and sfpd telling us that bus driver was speeding down post street next to the union square ice skating rink at post and stockton. several crews on the ground continues to give us updates. also overseas, this continues to unfold. it is now 2:15 in the morning in paris, and this is still a very active story. a state of emergency in france. the capital city of paris, a series of coordinated terror attacks. that's the latest report right now. more than 150 people have been killed. various locations throughout the city of paris. one including a concert hall, a restaurant, an outside of the major soccer stadium there in paris where a match was taking place. within the last two hours. french military crews stormed the concert hall where hostages had been taken. they killed two attackers. the french police did. new video into the newsroom of the french authorities with weapons drawn outside of the concert hall. the terror attacks have put san francisco on heightened alert. sfpd tell us they're on heightened alert but no credible threat what's happening connected between paris and san francisco. we'll follow this throughout the evening. >> a new report from our investigative unit. american hunter shoot and kill more than 70,000 animals over seas each year for sport. and then ship them home to the u.s., including here in the bay area, to be mounted as trophies. it's all legal. but tonight, at 11:00, investigative reporter show us some of the animals are threatened or even endangered. he joins us now with a preview. >> the high priced hobby is controversial. some see it as an important financial tool to fund conservation, while others argue the leads to the illegal hunting and selling of exoten animals. we have rare access to join federal inspectors as they sorted through shipments of animal trophies arriving to the port of san francisco. trophy hunting got a lot of attention after cecil the lion was killed in zimbabwe by an american hunter. tonight, we'll tell hyou how may other lions in africa were killed by hunters in that same month. we also take a look at whether the hobby of trophy hunting could be helping poachers sneak wi wildlife into the u.s. to sell on the black market. >> how often do you think some of these sport hunted trophies are coming into the u.s. illegally? >> i think it happens all the time. ordinarily, it's not even a wildlife inspector that looks at the trophies. it may be a customed inspector who looks and makes sure they have the proper tomorrow morning, caltrans will set off 600 charges of dynamite. here's some animation here. they're going to destroy a five-story underwater pier that used to help anchor that old span. the bridge will be closed for about 15 minutes. the explosion will not be visible above the water. >> don't want to disappoint, but there won't be one on top of the water. so please stay at home. you have a much better vantage point there. and we'll provide the link to the site. >> in fact, here it is. caltrans will provide that live feed of the operation on their website. they say the only thing that could story. that's nbcbayarea.com. okay, hopefully the weather will cooperate for the demolition. i know changes are on the way this weekend. let's get a check of the forecast with jeff. >> that's right. we're still tracking the possibility of rainfall. you can see as we head into saturday, it will begin with dry conditions and temperatures not quite as cold as we had the past few mornings. the north bay at 39 degrees. 40 in the east bay. a light jacket in the south bay with 42 degrees. on our microclimate forecast, the overall change will be slightly cooler temperatures but it will stay dry on saturday, at least through the day. 69 in san jose, cupertino, sfenlt, and for the pinls, we'll go up to upper 60s in palo alto. down into san francisco, low 60s tomorrow, and clouds beginning to build near the coastline. for the north bay, east bay, and tri-valley, check it out down here into pleasanton, still expecting 70 degrees. but starting to drop off in danville to 68. then for the east bay, beautiful day in fremont at 67. in the north bay, closest to the storm system. that's where cloud cover will also begin to increase. so dry again through the day on saturday. with this area of high pressure kicking off towards the east. but we will have some fast changes again by sunday morning. cold front expected to drop down, and it looks really good, locked in for at least a tenth of an inch to .35 across the bay area. what i want to take you to next is the most important forecasting tool, the timeline of the storm system. what we expect to happen. i still think there's give or take three to four hour differences in the timeline, but an overall trend of what we're seeing now. 9:00 p.m. on saturday, storm system is offshore. then as we head into very early sunday morning, right around 12:30, throughout santa rosa, calistoga, point reyes, napa, getting accumulation. and then rain stepping down toward san francisco, also toward contra costa and alameda, and beginning to move to san jose. you can see intensity with this, so it's not all light rain. possibly moderate pockets by 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00 in the morning. likely hold on to a few spotty showers throughout about 8:00 in the morning and then anyone headed up to the sierra, watch out. another round of snow coming your way as we head through the afternoon hours. overall totals as we sum those up. highest amounts right up into the north bay. again, i think we're very good on getting at least three tenths of an inch in santa rosa and napa. south of san francisco, about a quarter inch. that goes down to pleasanton and close to that expected in san jose. dry weather saturday. that rainfall arrives on sunday morning and check out the temperatures dropping into the upper 50s and low 60s. definitely jacket weather staying with us. raj and janelle, it will be very dangerous across the sierra on sunday. watch out if you're going up there for some fun and skiing or you're coming back on sunday,
