Im terry mcsweeney. Police officers show up at a south bay 7eleven and see an Armed Robbery in progress. They jump into action, and tonight a man is dead. Christie smith is live at the Convenient Store in santa clara with the details on this one. Reporter good evening. You know workers say they finally reopened late this morning after police say a robbery suspect actually opened fire towards one of their clerks inside the store. This just as two officers were driving into the parking lot of the 7eleven store at monroe and scott around 2 00 in the morning. Stan at that cholera police say the officer saw the suspect inside trying to rob the store. They say the suspect opened fire inside and then left the store and there were other people outside in the lot. Immediately confronted by our officers who were on the scene. The suspect didnt comply with our command. And our officers fearing for their lives and citizens in the parking lot of 7eleven discharged their weapons fatally wounding the suspect. Reporter the lieutenant says everyone else was unharmed including the clerk. Officers say they recovered the suspects loaded gun and money taken from the store. Today, the workers inside let us into the 7eleven where they pointed out a chipped tile and a hole behind the counter. They say that was actually from the gunfire. The officers are on paid administrative leave, which is routine. This is the second officerinvolved shooting this year in santa clara. Reporting life in santa Clara Christie smith nbc bay area news. In vallejo this weekend a much different officerinvolved shooting. This one appears to be the case of suicide by police officer. Police were called to the parking lot of the target center in vallejo last night after a man report lead threw a beer bottle at someones car. The man was holding a large knife and had a gun tucked into his waist band. An officer says he ordered the man to drop the knife several times but instead the man actually came toward the officer so he opened fire. The man later died at the hospital. Officers discovered that the gun was a fake and found a note in the mans car apologizing to police for forcing them to enhis life. Another officerinvolved shooting this one in rich monds happened last night at 38th street near interstate 80 a few miles from the Richmond Bart station. The suspect was wounded after a traffic stop turned into a police chase. He is now in custody at the hospital. The officer was not injured. Tell texas senator ted cruz is expected to announce he is running for president tomorrow. Cruz will be the first highprofile candidate to formally launch a white house bid. Every morning she wakes up and every night she goes to bed looking at that picture. Reporter her story against more than eight decades ago in china. She was two years alleged when japan invade china. Her parents fled for malaysia but left her and her sister behind with her grandmother. During that time i did not receive any money or letter from my parents. Reporter during the occupation her sister disappeared one day and never returned. Several years later her grandmother died. She was 11 years old, living poor and alone. I living alone. Reporter meanwhile, her parents went on to have more children. Never thought they could not bring me there. Reporter the years rolled by the only contact with her family were occasional letters. That was the only correspondence she ever had, maybe a dozen letters. Reporter following a rough childhood she married young and had her own children. It wasnt until 1965 she saw her mother again in china. After that did not see any more. Reporter the letters stopped. Her parents died around 1980. And she lost contact with the siblings she had never met. She couldnt finds her siblings nimpl. Reporter chen moved to San Francisco after her husband died of a work injury. Her letters remained her own family connection. They had lost track. Eventually 40 or so years had gone by. Reporter after years scouring the internet and cultural advocacy groups may chens children tracked down her siblings in malaysia and now there are new family photos. All these years she has been dreaming to meet her brothers and sisters.
