a parole violation and named a personal of interest in the case, was found with coke's fees and her credit card. he also had on muddy boots. >> this is an ongoing investigation. it's evolving and evolving quickly now. things have happened. a body has been located. >> reporter: the body has not yet been removed from the scene, and when it is, we are told it will be taken to the county coroner's office to be identified. so far we haven't heard anything from coke's family. but a co-worker tells me as awful as this discovery is, perhaps it will bring the family and her friends some closure. reporting live, jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, jodi. new details on this week's amber alert. murder suspect james dimaggio's blue nissan versa was found this morning after a ground search near cascade, idaho, about 75 miles north of boise. wednesday, witnesses reported seeing a man and a teenage girl matching the description of dimaggio and 16-year-old hannah anderson. authorities from san diego county are now assisting with the search. people on horseback, aerial resources, experienced deputies and other law enforcement personnel from that area that know the terrain and all the resources of the federal, state and local government are being brought to bear on this so we can hopefully bring hannah back safely to her family here in san diego. >> the amber alert is still in effect for hannah anderson and her 8-year-old brother, ethan. governor brown will use his powers and order a cooling off period this sunday if the b.a.r.t. contract dispute is not postponed. today, negotiations continued. the union says if considerable progress is not made today, it will issue a 48-hour strike notice, meaning workers could walk off the job again on monday morning like they did in early july. we will continue to follow these contract talks today and throughout the weekend on air and online at nbcbayarea.com. if there is a strike monday morning, we'll be on the air early beginning at 4:00 a.m. now to an nbc bay area followup. the man accused of killing a nursing student is now in shackles. he was in court after police arrested him for the shooting of 19-year-old kimberly chico. over the weekend, chico was a passenger in a car when a bullet fired from a gun by him struck and killed her. the district attorney says the case is sealed because the shooting is still under investigation. >> this is an awful tragedy. a young woman in our community was killed, and we are making sure that justice is brought forward. >> after yesterday's arrest, homicide and d.a. investigators went back to the scene to gather more evidence. they closed several streets near 3rd and san salvadore to scour the area. a san francisco man who made international news is pleading not guilty to battering his girlfriend. police say the alleged fight was caught on video. the 31-year-old is charged with 47 felony counts. he's out of jail tonight after posting bail of $1 million. he founded his first tech firm at the age of 16 after dropping out of san jose's independence high school. he now lives in san francisco. he sold that company for millions and then sold a second company for hundreds of millions. prosecutors claim a bedroom surveillance camera recorded the girlfriend being struck more than 100 times in a half hour period. they say he was jealous of her involvement with another man. talk about a wild ride. two men accused of leading deputies on a wild chase through the streets of san jose are now in custody. deputies say they spotted a stolen honda civic around 6:30 last night. the driver sped off, leading deputies toward downtown san jose. the suspect lost control, crashing into an suv on santa clara street. the passenger walls arrested, but the driver ran to a nearby restaurant. a canine dog tracked his scent to the roof of the restaurant where he was taken into comedy. the owner of the stolen honda civic says he's grateful to have his car back. >> i didn't have an expectation but i had hope. i just thank a higher power it turned out the way it did. >> the suspects were arrested for driving and apossessing a stolen vehicle. city workers in hayward could go on strike tuesday if a contract deal is not reached by this weekend. the city declared an impasse at the bargaining table last month and the two sides have not spoken since. kimberly terry is live with more on that. kimberly? >> reporter: talks have stalled and no signs of that changing. if a strike happens, city services, including the library, might be impacted. even though the city does have a contingency plan. a spokesperson for seiu local 1022 says city negotiators broke off talks on july 26. >> we have reaching out to decision makers, the mayor and city council people. so far they have declined to meet with us. >> throughout the process, the city has been willing to sit down and talk and entertain any proposal that is reasonable and meets the city's finance shall needs. >> reporter: so far, firefighters and police have agreed to. >> 5% isn't just 5% to me, it's $230 a paycheck, which is almost $6,000 a year.m that's the difference in me being able to pay my mortgage. >> reporter: the contract expired in april, and in june, the union authorized a strike. that's when the city went to work, making contingency plans should the workers strike. potentially impacting the library, water facility and city hall. >> we've made appropriate plans jñ providing service. >> reporter: some admit the looming strikes in the bay area are getting tiresome. ac transits was just averted and b.a.r.t.'s continues to loom. >> they're contagious. they're catching on. but you have to do what you have to do. you have to stand up for yourself. so i understand in one way, but there's nothing we can do about it. >> reporter: the strike is set for 6:00 a.m. on tuesday unless the two sides can come together before then. live in hayward, kimberly terry, nbc bay area news. new details now. two people are dead, two more missing after a small plane crashed into two homes in east haven, connecticut. the faa says the plane took off from new jersey and crashed as it attempted to land at the regional airport. conditions were rainy but airport officials say they didn't receive any distress calls from the airplane. the two homes caught on fire and one house partially collapsed and the mayor says two children, ages 1 and 13, were inside. a father and son were on the plane. authorities have not yet released the identities of the two confirmed deceased victims. still to come, crashing a tessla on purpose. we'll explain why. what's bugging you? >> wear bug repellant and wear something long, light and loose. >> reporter: or don't go out in the evening at all. >> also, plug in an oscillating fan while you sit outside. mosquitos are weak flyers. that's good advice for anyone going to the jazz festival this weekend in the streets of downtown san jose. the party kicked off today. it features performers from all branchs of jazz, from big band to r&b and fusion. this year, there will be a dozen indoor and outdoor venues, all within easy walking distance. more than 100 act also perform, making this san jose's largest annual cultural event. there's also a huge party in san francisco as we speak at golden gate park. this is day one of the festival. this is chicago band smith western. they got it under way this afternoon. 65,000 people every day are expected to turn out for this three-day festival. she's having a good time. bay area restaurants, wineries and breweries are providing the entertainment, the food and the drinks. music fans say the festival has become one of the nation's most popular. >> it's definitely one of the more main stream ones. it's been sold out for a long time. so definitely something to look forward to. it's a legendary thing, especially with paul mccartney headlines. >> shading of woodstock there. and yes, sir paul takes the stage tonight. the festival has been sold out for more than a month. but many fans were able to score last-minute tickets on online ticket sites. >> on the bay, you may have watched it this afternoon, the action during the cup semifinals. >> and oracle team usa leads. here is the latest from america's cup and the races and the water. >> reporter: i'm lawrence scott, where a challenger team is close to elimination, while the defender, oracle team usa is getting attention as they watch and wait. the latest coming up in just a bit. after three races in the semifinals, the italian team continues their dominance over the favorite, the swedish racing team as a more aggressive approach to the prestart leading to perhaps their best all around race yet. giving them a commanding 3-0 lead in this best 4 of 7 series, with a 1:18 win over artimus. and amidst the news that oracle usa was forfeiting their world series, their training continues leading up to the september 7 start. they are watching and learning from these challenger races. >> we learn a lot about the race course, then we learn a lot about the configurations of the other boats and their strengths and weaknesses and the different configurations, whether it's upwind, down wind or reaching. so it's been quite good to watch the cup and the racing. >> reporter: and the defenders get prepared for what's to come. >> we're having a great time. we thought the america's cup final coming up in september, which will be very exciting. and for us now we're in the final stages. we've got two of these ac-72s racing against each other. learning a huge amount. it's totally different any of us have ever experienced before. >> reporter: with a win on saturday, luna rosa would eliminate artimus racing. we're following breaking news, impacting the friday evening commute. our nbc chopper is in san jose. this is south bound 101 at 87, which is always busy. now with an accident right here san jose airport. initial reports say a vta bus, i believe, got in an accident there. the backup stretches back a couple miles now. this is the south bound 101 near san jose airport. you can see the airport there. a vta accident and it's closed two lanes of the 101. we'll follow this story as the commute continues at 5:00 and 6:00. >> that place is always jammed up any way. real backup now. over on 880, a little extra traffic around the coliseum tonight. >> the raiders will be playing their first preseason game. a live look from our traffic camera. the silver and black taking on the cowboys. the game is blacked out on local tvs, so you'll have to see a tape delay or follow it on line. the giants are right here on nbc bay area, hosting the orioles. yesterday, belt homered in his first time batting cleanup. san francisco went on to beat the brewers yesterday. the game tonight here on nbc. first pitch is at 7:00. that means we'll move some of our programming around tonight.
