One of the areas is a parking garage all the way at the end of the street, as you can see behind me, still blocked off by Police Officers. The police chief says he doesnt want to give too much information away about the suspect because he says this is an active investigation and they are concerned about residents safety. Much of Downtown Dallas remains a crime scene after a night of horrific violence aimed at Police Officers. In a coordinated ambush style attack, a sniper opened fire on police. Started shooting. All of the cops shot. I saw cops bending over. It had to have been five or six cops all shot down. Reporter it happened near the end of a peaceful rally protesting recent policeinvolved shootings. When it was over, five officers were killed, seven others wounded. We are heartbroken. Reporter Police Rushed towards the gunfire and cornered the gunman. You see video footage of them running toward gunfire from an elevated position with no chance to protect themselves. To put themselves in harms way to make sure citizens can get to a place of security. Reporter after a lengthy standoff, police used a controlled explosive to kill the suspect. We have been trying to make sure that the city is safe this morning. And i believe it is. Reporter the gunman told police he acted alone and was angered by Police Shootings. In a show of solidarity, police formed an honor line outside the hospital where the victims were taken. I believe i speak for every single american when i say that we are horrified over these events and that we stand united with the people and the Police Department in dallas. Police chief telling us he doesnt want to give us much information because theres a possibility there could be other people involved in the shooting still out there. She talked about the deaths of the two black men at the hands of police which prompted the protest in dallas last night. Loretta lynch reiterated the Dallas Police chiefs call for an end to divisiveness between police and the citizens they are charged with protecting. And we must take a hard look at the ease with which wrong doers can get their hands on Deadly Weapons and the frequency with which they use them. The president said, we immediate to be concerned about Racial Disparities in our Justice System and of the sacrifices that Law Enforcement officers make. Reporter shattered glass this morning reflects shattered nerves in oakland. This was the scene on the 880 freeway. About 1,000 protesters stopping traffic for hours. It started with a peaceful rally in downtown oakland. This womans brother is an Oakland Police officer. I really just want to make sure my brother is safe but also we have other black males in the family who are not Police Officers who are feeling unsafe. Reporter thousands of protesters expressed outrage and concern in the community. Some vandalizing stores, foot locker and smart final. It looked dangerous. A lot of guns, a lot of Police Officers. There was an arrest made in the vandalism you saw at the smart final store. There were no injuries from the protests overnight. Right now investigators in minnesota say several videos of the shooting there, including squad car video of the incident, have been collected as evidence. By now, you have seen the video shot by philandos castiles girlfriend after he was shot. Diamond reynolds streams that live on facebook as an officer trained his gun on her boyfriend and her 4yearold daughter sat in the back seat. Reynolds said they were pulled over for a broken taillight. One officer asked for identification. As Philando Castile reached for his license, he began to tell the officer, i have a concealed weapon. The Justice Department did open a civil rights investigation into the Police Shooting of alton sterling in baton rouge, louisiana. Authorities are now pouring over more surveillance video. This time even clearer from the Convenience Store where sterling died and where body cameras that police say became dislodged during the scuffle.
