When he returned to the hotel, huge cracks were in the walls and he had to leave because the ground kept shaking with aftershocks all night long. Many people were in a panic packing up cars and trying to leave town. Hes hoping to fly back home even though the local airport was still out of electricity as of last night. Now, the 22 students and teachers from Redwood High School are now in panama hoping to board a plane to sfo at some point. Today or tomorrow. Serious questions about the accuracy of those tests. In november, a federal inspection by cms, the centers for medicare and Medicaid Services found critical violations at one of her two labs. Including failure to properly hire and train qualified staff to run the blood testing machine and allowing unlicensed workers to review patient test results. According to regulators, the lab posed immediate jeopardy to patient safety. I feel devastated that we did not catch and fix these issues faster. They commemorate the 110th anniversary of the 1906 quake and fires that destroyed much of San Francisco. For the First Time Since that tradition began in 1919, there was a big element missing here. The last known survivor passed away this year and people really missed their presence. But they were celebrated. Another thing celebrated, the San FranciscoFire Department, the 150th birthday, the fire chief saying all of it falling on the same day serves as a reminder that we all need to be prepared before the next one hits. [ sirens ] dozens stood at 5 12 this morning in downtown to remember the victims of the 1906 quake. About 3,000 lost their lives and 200,000 lost their homes. Thats the focus of this annual commemoration. The last one to do that was bill, the 109yearold who passed away in january. His family came to remember him. Its a mixture because we his him terribly but we feel hes looking down and looking at us and glad that were here representing him. It hits home because its up to us, up to the Younger Generation to learn as much as we can about the experience and carry it on because its a real big part of our history here in the bay area.
