So far since october 1st weve had over 5. 5 inches of rain in santa rosa. In San Francisco over 3 inches, oakland 2 inches. But where weve had a surplus of rain livermore and san jose. We are catching up to being close to average for this time of year. And were still making some progress from oakland, San Francisco and to the north. So we do still need more rain, but this system is winding down. There is another one that will be moving in by this weekend. Ill detail that and what to expect through the rest of the workweek. All right, kari, thank you. 60 hours after a ship lost 12 containers in rough waters crews are still trying to clean up the mess left behind by one of those containers that broke apart and spilled litter across baker beach in San Francisco. Nbc bay areas Stephanie Chuang is at the beach. And, stephanie, this beach could be closed for the whole day. Reporter absolutely, scott and kris. In fact, the contractor hired by the shipping company says that everything, the parking lot here included should have been closed in the first place. You can see over here some of that trays, the crates theyve been bringing up here to haul out. Down by the beach is where they were going into the water, stacking the crates, counting more than 1,000 of them here getting them out of here to head to the recycling center. Considering rough waters this weekend many say this could have been much worse. You can usually find wendy picking up litter off baker beach when shes walking her dog cocoa, but she says the countless pieces of white styrofoam plastering the shore today are much tougher to pick up compared to the usual hard plastic. Its deceiving because it looks like the foam out there, but its actually all these white styrofoam round pieces that sort of look like rocks. That end of the beach is covered. There are puppies out here chewing on this stuff and running through the foam. Yeah, wed like them to clean it up. Reporter the styrofoam is the result of the kind of shipping container, a refrigerated one with loads inside according to tim parker hired by the shipping company to lead the clean up. Were hoping by the end of today, which well be working into the night, well have all the trays and all the metal in the container off the beach. Reporter the ship lost 12 containers. Only this one has been accounted for. Salesforce ceo tweeted, looks like you can find your missing container in between china beach and baker beach. The coast guard will search for the other containers by air. On the ground parker says getting rid of the mess will be labor intense i but calls it a miracle no one got hurt. We had high surf warnings for i guess about six days in a row now. And they were out there on friday. And a ship just about comes to a stop to unload the pilot. Okay. When they do that theyre really susceptible to the swell. Reporter again, the good news no one hurt in this. Around noon is when the crews expect some high tide. Theyre going to have to take a break or two but by the end of the day they want the metal debris and crates out of here.
