The woman was saying he grabbed her neck, he choked me, he choked me. So i dont know what went down, but definitely something went down. And the Flight Attendant put the garbage can in front of the door. They pulled out the restraints. I was like, wow. It was serious. It was a serious situation. Reporter curry says the man was calm so he was left in his seat until they landed back at l. A. X. Where another passenger took this picture of the response. It was about 20 officers. I mean, they came cars when you look out the window you saw every type of light you could see. It was a serious, you know, terror situation. Reporter despite the delay and arriving atd work with no sleep, curry says he appreciated how the crew responded. I fly a lot so i knew what they were going through. I knew there were protocol. I knew this incident could have been something else. I knew they had to follow it. So it wasnt no thing. Reporter now in that video you saw that man accused of choking the woman the passenger says he was getting off the plane escorted by officers at l. A. X. I want to stress again he was not arrested. As for the other 136 passengers aboard they deplaned, boarded a different plane and landed here back at sfo around 2 00 in the morning. But all safely. Happening right now California State University faculty voting on whether to authorize a strike. Their decision will effect 23 universities throughout the csu. The largest Public University system in the country. The faculty, union and management failed to reach an agreement last week on a contract. Union wants a 5 Salary Increase for its members. Csu is proposed a 2 hike. We have the most highly educated citizens in california who are not even making what the typical californian is making in salary income per year. 50 of the faculty are parttime contingent employees which means they dont get guarantee of employment semester to semester. And theyre making even less than that. Now, a faculty strike hasnt happened. Just once actually in csu history. The strike authorization vote will run through the end of october. Chow is due before a judge for a procedural hearing in the federal racketeering trial against him today. He may also face charges of soliciting murder. Todays hearing is also supposed to involve disclosing the identities of undercover fbi agents who may testify against chow when the case goes to trial. That trial is now scheduled to begin next month. One man is dead, another in Critical Condition after a car drove off the santa cruz wharf and into the ocean. Heres video showing rescue drivers freeing one man from the submerged vehicle. This was saturday night. Witnesses say the driver was driving aggressively nearly hitting pedestrians. Something new for bicyclists riding through San Francisco. Construction starts today on the first raised bike lane in the city. And the goal of course to keep cyclists safer. Were talking about this bike lane that runs two blocks stretch here on eastbound market between golf and 12th street. Theyll be raising it just a few inches. Lower than the curb but high enough if you were driving you would know youre driving over it. The idea is to make travel safer for the more than 3,000 bicyclists who ride into s. F. Every day by discouraging drivers and cars from veering into those bike lanes. Muni and the city also hopes it will discourage bicyclists from using the sidewalk. Market is a great place to demonstrate this project because it will help the agencies working on it figure out how to roll these out on streets across the city. Theyre making good progress, especially on state route 58. Its one of the hardest roads hit. As of yesterday two big rigs and five cars were still stuck. At one point there were more than 100 vehicles in the mud. Officials hope to have the road back open by thursday at the latest. Geologists say the hillsides are now stable so even if theres more rain this should not happen any time soon. Some bay area communities preparing in more ways than one for the possibility of intense winter weather. A new report by 100 bay area scientists and 17 Government Agencies say San Franciscos infrastructure will be at risk in the coming years because of climate change. The report says the looming threat of rising seas, surging tides and extreme storms could lead to a tax measure aimed at combatting potential danger. Experts say that money could be used to restore 54,000 acres of wetlands around the bay which would help knock down waves and reduce flooding. Imagine knob hill as an island. My goodness. We had a thunderstorm that kind of sat across the north bay and produced some high amounts of rain just for one isolated area. Now were going to wipe out all of the rain chances as we go into the next few days. More sunshine in that forecast. And getting a close look now at the south bay and some of the temperatures now still nice and cool santa teresa after 66. In the north bay now 68 degrees. In San Francisco now at 64 degrees. So the sun starting to mix in with the clouds. A light wind, but that wind will be picking up. And this may be an issue especially along the coast as we go into the day. Here we are at 3 00. And the winds at Half Moon Bay at 18 miles an hour. Not bad, but it goes up from there. A sustained wind that 30 miles an hour and thats the forecast for this evening. We may have some gusts possibly over 30 miles an hour. As we go into the evening hours. So well be watching out for that. And that may also increase the fire danger for the north bay hills. And san jose the suns starting to come out by 1 00 and temperatures at 69 degrees. Rising into the low 70s and then it goes right back down. So a nice cool evening with a breezy wind and mostly clear skies expect a high of 76 degrees. In redwood city 73 degrees. The castro at 71 degrees. Well see a high of 70 in hayward. Livermore 78 degrees. So in some spots these temperatures are cooler than average. And as we look at the futurecast we will see the light showers that were offshore clearing out mostly clear skies tonight. And tomorrow were going to have a lot of sunshine all across the bay area. Recovering from open heart surgery after his family says he was stabbed four times in the back, lung, liver and heart earlier this month. Now Sacramento Police have released these sketches of two asian men they believe are responsible for the attack. The two stabbing suspects were seen fleeing the crime scene outside a Sacramento Bar two weeks ago. A witness to the fight tells People Magazine one of the guys hit one of the girls, and the guy who turned out to be Spencer Stone went after that guy. Were hoping that the community somebody can see these photos and it will refresh their memory. Reporter while detectives work around the clock looking for leads, stone is scheduled to get a promotion to staff sergeant, a direct result of his heroics in europe helping thwart a terror attack aboard a high speed train stabbed several times in the process. A High School Junior collapsed on the sidelines of a Football Game in texas over the weekend. He was rushed to the hospital, but later died. He is the sixth High School Football player to die this year. As nbcs Janet Shamlian reports, these deaths are having a Ripple Effect across the country as Many School Districts now debate the future of their own football program. Reporter this morning following the tragic death of 16yearold Cameron Matthews, the question being asked, why is this happening so often . The Alto Community is taking it hard. Everybody was hurt. Reporter the 60 junior collapsed on the sidelines in the middle of friday nights game after telling teammates he was dizzy. He was medevaced to the hospital where he died the next day. Officials say he suffered an aneurysm though the exact cause of his death has not been determined. Camerons friends and family are heartbroken, but dont believe football is to blame. I feel that if cameron wasnt on the football field, cameron could have been in the car and this would have happened. Reporter matthews is the sixth High School Football player nationwide to die after a game since the school year started. Six players so close to the beginning of the school year is unusual. Last year five died from footballrelated injuries all season. Three deaths a year is the average. In an effort to reduce deaths and injuries every state now has laws designed to prevent concussions. Theres a limit of 90 minutes a week for full contact play. And at alto high the coach says theres a trainer at every game. Everybody just automatically assumes it had to have been a football thing. He never took a shot to the head. You know, it wasnt anything. It happened on the football field. Reporter those who knew him say Cameron Matthews was a talented athlete, a terrific student and much more. Anybody that has children of their own, thats how you want them to turn out. Like him. He was just a great kid. Great kid. Very sad. Developing right now, rescue crews in the philippines are scrambling to reach hundreds of people who are trapped in their flooded homes. Some of them even stranded on rooftops. The slow moving typhoon slammed the island. As of now nine people are confirmed dead, but officials are warning entire neighborhoods are now in danger of being swept away in mudslides. Parts of the philippines under three feet of water and about 20,000 people are now in shelters. That storm is not expected to move out until tomorrow, maybe even wednesday. Reporter amid more violence, the tragic story this morning of a young man who was waiting at a bus station when palestinian grabbed a soldiers gun and opened fire killing the soldier injuring five policemen and four others. Now, the crowd thought the young man who was eritrean had something to do with this. First of all a Security Guard shot him and then the crowd turned on him and beat him so badly he died later of his injuries in the hospital. Just another example of how the innocent are getting caught up in the fear and the fury here. And the furious argument today over a concrete wall 15 feet high and said to be about a mile long in the end that israel is building around one arab neighborhood here in jerusalem. Palestinians say this is collective judgment because 50,000 people live in that area and say this is ineffective anyway. It wont stop the violence. Meanwhile, the u. S. Secretary of state john kerry spoke this morning and called all the violence senseless. He called on israeli and palestinian leaders to take urgent action. We also share a global interest in seeing the region find a way forward to avoid this kind of confrontation and senseless loss of life. A lot of sunshine, but the winds will start to pick up as we go into the evening. And thats going to make it feel cooler. So if you will be out late this evening heading out for late dinner, make sure you grab a jacket. You will definitely need it in some spots. In san jose a high of 76 degrees. Redwood city 73. And the embarcadero at 68 degrees. And heading up to santa rosa 80 degrees. One of the warmer spots. And also in antioch 79 degrees. Pleasanton also at 79 today. Heading into the rest of the week our temperatures will be going up each day. Looks like wednesday will be the warmest day of the week as we take a look at the forecast for los gatos today 76, which is right where we should be for average for this time of year. We start to get a little bit warmer tomorrow. And then wednesday up to 84 degrees. We will keep that warmth just seeing those temperatures fluctuate a few degrees through the rest of the week. And warmer days ahead because High Pressure will be building and that will keep it dry fighting back the on shore flow. And the inland spots will be much warmer. By friday we will have a weakening cold front moving in. It doesnt look like it will bring us any chances of rain, but that will help cool us off just in time for the weekend. And then there will be another larger system moving in that could bring us another chance of rain to start next week. Well be keeping tabs on that system that well be moving in about a week or maybe a week or ten days out a week or ten days ahead as we look into next week. A look at this weekends forecast were already starting to make plans. I know its just monday, but it will be nice and comfortable. And it looks like we will keep the rain away from our area.
