Peaceful. Good morning. Thats the good news. Good morning. For some time there were no trains stopping here at the montgomery street station, nor powell nor embark daro. On this side the train heading to millbrage, was stopped for a little bit and b. A. R. T. Said it was because of some of the protesters. Here is where there was a lot of clanking of metal spoons and Police Officers as well as b. A. R. T. Employees trying to make it smooth for folks, but it didnt take long for the first arrests to be made. The one in the green sweatshirt was banging his spoon against a train where it appeared a couple protesters kept the doors open. The police chief of b. A. R. T. Told him to stop but as the train moves, the man continues. 15 seconds later, he was in cuffs. At least six officers took him away up the escalator where a crowd formed to the left taking pictures and videos demanding his release. Still the metal spoons clanked. The protest loosely organized by a project based in the bay area. A spokesman said a morning inconvenience for the people was the point, a sort of wakeup call to what he says has been police brutality. People who say this is an ineffective tactic are hiding behind what is essentially selfsympathy. Stopping b. A. R. T. For one day is nothing compared to what is happening to the black people in the street. The fear they live with every day of being shot, being harassed by Police Officers. As soon as protesters heard the announcements, they moved. No trains stopping at montgomery because of a civic disturbance, then they went back to embark daro and then montgomery and then powell. And thats where we found a flustered jesus. I have to keep walking from station to station, and now im at the point where im thinking im stranded. Im just going to have to take a ferry over to the east bay and i guess call someone at home to pick me up. This is ridiculous. Other b. A. R. T. Riders we spoke with agree. They understand the cons and why they might agree why protesters are out, they didnt appreciate the how. Im all for the cause, but right now, i just want to go home. Stinks when this train is held up when its late. We have appointments we have families. It costs us all more mrny and time. I think they have every right to protest, but im not really thrilled about them shutting down b. A. R. T. Impacting the other people who are trying to get to work. Absolutely. Its a horrible impact. So a lot of my colleagues are working from home today so they dont have to deal with commutes. Back here live you can see its very calm. Things are turned back to normal. They said around 9 30 this morning. A very different picture from just a few hours ago. There were two arrests the first one, the man taken away in cuffs. B. A. R. T. Said he kicked a train window. A second arrest was a woman who b. A. R. T. Says was blocking a train at powell. The weekend long events of protests continues all the way through monday. Martin luther king jr. Day, with a march that will be in locoakland. Thanks. Protesters werent just heard in San Francisco. Two dozen other activists locked themselves together blocking the entrance to the rondellham federal build in oakland this morning. They say theyre there to link the struggles in developing nations to movements for civil rights. Officers were there as well to make sure the peaceful protest didnt get out of hand. We move to the latest developments in europe. Two suspected extremists were killed and a third arrested in an antiterror raid in belgium last night. The operation is said to have no apparent links to last weeks terror attacks in paris, where the secretary of state john kerry was this morning to pay tribute to the victims. We have more from belgium. The sound of gunfire and explosions once again in europes streets. Inside police battling gunmen back from syria who they say were planning a big attack. Two men were killed and one arrests. All i can confirm to you, there were plans to assassinate policemen in the streets or at the police buildings. The men were heavily armed and say police had been tracking them for weeks. They were ready to launch their attack within hours. Vifrb yae is a small down but at least half a dozen men have gone from here to fight in syria. Within belgium, we have seen a Wide Community of people foig in syria and iraq. Its the highest per capita concentration we have in europe. Theres no apparent link with the paris massacre, but the gunmen there bought their weapons from a belgian arms dealer. Secretary of state john kerry laid a writhe at a jewish supermarket where four people were killed. He did the same at the office of the magazine paying tribute to all 17 victims of the gunmen. Hes havic togs with the french president. David cameron was meeting president obama. Now more than ever cooperation across europe and the atlantic is vital in the growing conflict with islamic extremists. Its a bigger problem in belgium than in nearly any other european country. About 40,000 have been killed so far in syria. 100 or so have returned home to have been killed here. Another terror plot here foiled. Back to you. That is good news. President obama and britains Prime Minister are joining forces to fight domestic terrorism. The pair made that announcement this morning during a joint News Conference at the white house. You just saw this as an nbc special report, perhaps. We spoke with a member of the Bay View Neighborhood Association who told us the city issued a permit authorizing them to dismantle the stadium instead of imploding it. Neighbors worry an implosion would spread toxic dusts into the neighborhood. The developer plans to withdraw the plans to implode the stadium. Once candlestick is gone a shopping center, hotel, and housing complex will go up in its place. Now they delight tourists year after year. You cant miss that loud barking sound. Its actually funny to hear people here trying to imitate the sea lions. Theyre actually located back in the back of pier 39 toward the dock known as k dock. Its early in the season so there are only a few mammals here today. I videoed this so they can actually see all of the sea lions here in one place. They come back every year to the same location. I guess its kind of like an annual reunion for them. The Sea Lion Center upstairs from the k dock kicked off the 25th anniversary celebration with some music, cake and speeches. Of course, this is a time to highlight the great work of the center and what the center does in terms of Education Programs and people are encouraged to take the sea lion pledge which is supporting a happy, healthy home for these sea lions. Up in northern Sonoma County take a look. You have just under half an inch just since this morning. And were looking pretty good to see a little bit of light shower activity with the storm track. Basically sitting right to our north. The bay area is kind of the dividing line for those showers. Im going to show you exactly what i mean in a moment but lets show you the tale of two beaches right now. This is pacifica. You can see right now, mostly cloudy skies. Actually drizzling out there. Pretty chilly. Meanwhile, santa cruz, beautiful sunshine. This is the story for much of the weekend. A little cloud cover, even some drizzle along the beaches. Especially north of san mateo county. Were still seeing a little bit of light activity. Cold cloudy. Wherever youre headed grab your jackets. Were going to end up in the 60s today. Thats courtesy of the warm start we had. This tells the story, High Pressure to the south. Low pressure to the north. And that dividing line just to the north of Sonoma County. High pressure is going to keep things nice and warm. Areas like santa cruz but were going to see the offchute showers come in. Whats interesting, just to the north of Sonoma County places like ukiah are going to pick up an inch of rain as we head through the weekend. Were going to see the 70s in santa cruz. Its a bizarre pattern. What is happening is showers cant get in. The storm collides with the dry air and everything dissipates before getting into the south bay. We have more sunshine down here than were seeing in San Francisco, and specifically up in the north bay. Nonetheless, highs are going to be comfortable today. 65 on the south bay. 61 for San Francisco. And a better chance for rain moves in now as we head throughout tomorrow morning in the north bay and we might get activity for the second half of the day on sunday.
