deputies say around 7:30 last night, 61-year-old puckett was on a hike with her husband on the smith creek trail in grant ranch park when she got separated from him. her husband searched for hours, but after 2:00 a.m., he decided to call for help. santa clara county search and rescue along with cal fire and park rangers launched a search and found puckett at about 7:00 this morning. they say she did something very important to help in the search. >> luckily, this person did exactly what you're supposed to do when you're lost. you're supposed to stay put. so she had just basically stayed put all last night and she was located on the trail by the search and rescue personnel. >> reporter: puckett did not have a cell phone on her, but service in the area is very spotty. deputies say she is in good health and is an experienced hiker. temperatures only dropped into the 60s, which helped quite a bit. in the newsroom, derek shore, nbc bay area news. >> it sure is a tough place for cell senator was joking and laughing with his attorney and some others in the hallway before the arraignment, seemed in good spirits. and we just 20 minutes ago caught him finally leaving the courthouse. he didn't have much to say. he did say this. >> just need to talk to my attorney and see where we go from there. >> reporter: so deferring to his attorney, again. not much to say. he was waiting in the courthouse to avoid media and cameras for his driver to pick him up and he exited very quickly again in just the last half hour. the same entrance and exit he went in. his attorney has not said anything on record about the case. now, in a charcoal grey suit, he appeared in front of the judge just after 9:30. was there all of five minutes. he and the other co-defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges. the only additional discussion was the prosecutor mentioned adding the penalty to the sheet for racketeering, which is a 20-year maximum prison sentence and $250,000 fine. but those were left off. prosecutors say he violated the federal racketeering act in trying to get money and bribes in exchange for political favors and votes on everything from medical marijuana to limiting workers' compensation claims in the nfl. legal analysts say this is not something that's been brought up in similar cases against politicians. so the government painting a picture of yee as a man who built up a pattern of criminal behavior. the latest additional charge of rock tiering could prompt some of the co-defendants in this case to talk in exchange for plea deals. although one defense attorney has said he feels the revised indictment shows that the prosecutor's case is weak. by the way, raymond "shrimp boy" chow, the other major defendant in this case, was charged with racketeering yesterday. the grand jury indicting him on more than 200 counts from shipment of stolen goods to money exchanging hands. his attorney says chow is a reformed gangster, who was caught up but is innocent in what was a three-year fbi undercover operation and investigation. so the next court date set here is general housekeeping, it's a status conference. really just to make sure everything is in line, because in this case, you have 29 co-defendants, and that has been set for august 7th at 10:00 in the morning, back here at the federal courthouse. >> for now live in san francisco, stephanie street. but i don't think i'll be telling her to shut up anytime in the near future. i'll be getting up to see what's going on in the neighborhood. >> good dog. the teenager was able to free himself and call for help. he was not physically hurt, just very scared. well, you saw all those squad cars. the san jose police department has decided it could use more of them. nbc bay area has learned the department is considering a plan to cut its motorcycle traffic unit. part of the plan would be to move those 11 officers over to patrol cars. the city should make a final decision soon. and while it might cut motorcycles, sjpd is adding a drone to its force. the department used federal money, apparently, to buy this $7,000 drone, or at least it paid $7,000. it will be used by the bomb squad to groesh and ordered the department to give him back pay. this according to the "oakland tribune." in october of 2011, roche was caught on camera throwing a tear gas grenade into a crowd of unarmed occupied protesters. it happened less than a minute after another officer hit iraq war veteran, scott olson, in the head with a bean bag fired from a shotgun, causing permanent brain damage. the city 16,000 reservists for the mission to disarm hamas and destroy its tunnels. >> reporter: israel says it doesn't target civilians, but in crowded, pending gaza, civilians are being killed every day in [ screaming ] >> reporter: at least 16 were killed. and anger is growing after another 15 people were killed in at least the sixth strike on a u.n. school wednesday, being used as a shelter. the u.n. agency in charge blamed israel. most israelis still support the offensive. many want it to go further, to stop hamas attacks once and for all, but israel's image abroad is being tarnished. and worse. in europe, especially france and germany, attacks on synagogues and jewish-owned businesses are on the rise. reviving painful memories for jewish communities around the world. prime minister netanyahu said there won't be a cease-fire until the tunnels are destroyed and the language here is important, because israeli military sources tell us that the specific tunnel mission could be finished within the next four to five days. richard engel, nbc news, gaza city. well, still to come, driverless cars hit the road across the pond. when we can expect to see them on those streets. plus, remember this big rig crash that spilled fruit all over a bay area highway?
