The alwayscolorful, tony sarah says theres no evidence that chow did any of the crimes related to the San FranciscoCorruption Case that netted more than two dozen arrests earlier this year. He suggests that that means the federal government case is weak. At the guidance of prosecutors, sarah says the grand jury would indict a ham sandwich on what they have and a bunch of charges are being brought to see what sticks. Chow has been a chinatown gang leader since 2006, trafficking guns, drugs, and stolen guns, and laundering money, the d. A. Says. Sarah says all of it is false, that shrimp boy has turned his life around. Hes dying to testify hes going to testify were not going to hide behind any fifth amendment hes denying to tell, you know, the truth from his perspective. Reporter former School Board Member from San Francisco school board, Keith Jackson already pleaded not guilty to the added racketeering charges on monday. Suspended state senator leland ye will face the same racketeering charge later this week. Hes expected to be in court to put his plea before a judge. Chow is still behind bars at the santa rita jail in dublin. There was no effort by his attorney to release him. Live in San Francisco, nannette miranda, nbc bay area news. Thank you very much, nannette. In other court news, two brothers accused of a 1989 cold case murder in the south bay will be back before a judge today. Prosecutors want to try david zimmer and Robert Zimmer together, charging them both with murder. Police say the brothers were involved in the murder of davids estranged wife, kathy, in 1989. Her strangled body was found wrapped in the quilt in the trunk of her car, which was parked at San Jose International airport. Investigators say it was this quilt that helped lead them to the zimmer brothers. Pizza delivery men in the south bay are on edge. This week, a couple of drivers have been robbed at gunpoint. Nbc bay years derek shore live in sunnyvale. And police out there looking for the bad guys. Reporter and police admit those two drivers were lucky after both of them working at this Dominos Pizza on caliente, but thats not to say the location was being specifically targeted. Officers say both happened right after another on monday. They believe they are connected. In the first one, a driver had just finished a delivery on the 400 block of east remmington drive around 9 00 when the two suspects jumped into the drivers car, threatening a gun and forcing that driver to drive a short distance before stealing his belongings and jumping out. A few hours later, investigators say the pair appeared on the 400 block of north bay view, where they approached a driver who had just made delivery. Except this time, this driver actually ran off, so the suspect stole the drivers car. Steven caris had just gotten the pizza when that driver came running back to his home. He like, you know, came up to the door and said his car got stolen and they had a gun, so we told him to get inside, because of the weapon. And then we called 911. Any situation where somebody threatens to have a gun or that the victim believes that they have a gun can be very dangerous and this one turned out, you know, with no injuries. Reporter and that is the good news. No one injured in all of this. Police would recover that drivers car just about 20 minutes later. It was abandoned. We asked for a comment today from this dominos. The manager said they are not offering any sort of comment, whether or not these employees had any days off after this incident or whether theyll be returning to work. As for those two suspects, there is a very vague description of them. Both were thought to be short, hispanic men and both were wearing hoodies at that time. Now, police now asking for everyone or anyone who might have been in that area during that time to give them a call. We are live in sunnyvale, im derek shore, nbc bay area news. Okay. Thanks, derek. Well, crews had to work quickly to put out a fierce fire in oakland this morning. Take a look at this. They were just shooting out of a house on melrose avenue near high street. The fire broke out at one home, quickly spread to another. Flames so intense, crews had to call for backup. The fire even took down power in the area. That impacted about a dozen people in the neighborhood. 18 people are without a home this morning, but no reports of injury. The cause of the fire, of course, under investigation. Well, its not gushing like it was, but there is still some heavy leaking from that massive water main break in los angeles. So much leaking, in fact, that they cant repair the break. And were learning the damage caused by the flooding is more extensive than first thought. Heres the latest from nbcs chris clackum. Reporter when the water main in los angeles broke tuesday, water gushed out at a rate of 75,000 gallons a minute, and created a sinkhole still so flooded today, that its hampering efforts to repair the break. We cannot begin any of the repairs until we get the water completely down, and were working on that. Reporter a testament to l. A. s aging infrastructure, one of two lines that broke is 93 years old and sent up to 10 million gallons of water gushing for nearly four hours on to sunset boulevard and the ucla campus tuesday afternoon. Went down the stairwell and the stairwell, you cant even get down. It was like a raging rapids. Ucla officials said wednesday morning damaged hundreds of cars are parked in a campus garage is extensive. A little less than half of those 739 cars is on the lower level and more or less fully submerged. At one point, 8 inches sat atop the Basketball Court just two years after a 136 million renovation. The campus obviously had some substantial damage yesterday, to about six facilities, including two subterranean parking structures. Cleanup crews worked through the night, while repair crews worked to fix the break, which they said wont happen today. Chris clackum, nbc news. Speaking of water, complaints about waste are pouring into the bay area city. Still havent quite figured out how to fine people as the state ordered a few weeks ago. The Santa Clara ValleyWater District reports a flood of complaints since the agency said it would spend 500,000 to hire water police to enforce regulation. Heres the glitch. That agency and others like it have to change administrative codes to legally empower employees to write those tickets. He has to go through a process, and each Water Company has to go through a process to be able to issue fines. To do that, some Companies Need city council, even state approval. Between now and when that happens, some agencies are sending employees out to respond to customer complaints with warnings and conservation education. New developments this morning in the middle east, a fourhour ceasefire is now over. The Israeli Military called for that ceasefire just hours after it was accused of shelling another u. N. School serving as a refugee shelter in the gaza strip. Nbcs Richard Engel has more from gaza city. Reporter yet another u. N. Run school being used as a shelter. Theyve come under attack here in gaza city. This one, around 4 00 in the morning. Witnesses say that women and children were asleep in one of the classrooms when they heard incoming rounds, the ceiling came down on top of them. At least 12 people, perhaps 15 or more, have been killed in this attack. The u. N. Says this was the result of israeli fire. They say that israeli artillery rounds, at least three rounds, struck this school. The precise location of the elementary girls school, and the fact that it was housing thousands of internally displaced people was communicated to the israeli army 17 times to ensure its protection. The last being at 10 to 9 00 last night, just hours before the fatal shelling. Reporter israeli Officials Say that they are still investigating this. In the past, israel says said that it has not been responsible for other attacks on u. N. Schools and said that hamas militants have stored weapons, stored rockets in u. N. Schools and been fighting for the areas right around them. This time, however, u. N. Officials tell us there were no weapons in the school, no militants in the area. This morning, b. A. R. T. Police found her at the lake merit b. A. R. T. Station in oakland. They say she seemed okay, but she was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Pg e crews will be in San Francisco to vent a natural gas pipeline and say if you are in the area, you might smell it. Its happening on 15th street between castro and knowy streets. Pg e have not given us an exact time, but that the venting should happen during the daytime hours. Crews will vent the gas so they can do construction on that pipe pg e is facing a maximum penalty of more than 1 billion after it was indicted on 27 federal charges, including lying to investigators in the wake of the 2010 deadly san bruno blast. The u. S. Attorney filed the new indictment yesterday, more than doubling the number of accusations from a previous indictment and adding an obstruction charge. The grand jury report accuses the utility of intentionally slowing down the investigation into the explosion and providing false information about its pipeline safety. In addition, pg e is accused of keeping records it knew were inaccurate and failing to properly assess dangerous pipelines. The company could estimate 1. 1 billion, but some say thats not nearly enough. I would like to see criminal carja charges, i would like to see them stand trial. And if at the end of the day they are found guilty, they should go to prison. Pg e has released a statement saying they dont think those charges are warranted. The 49ers first season at levi stadium has not even started yet, but they are already apologizing for the gridlock. Last night they released these animated tutorials to help fans to get to the stadium. They do not want to earn the same reputation as, candlestick park, which was notorious for traffic delays. And they have reason to worry after an open house for season Ticket Holders last friday left a lot of fans frustrated by the traffic. The 49ers sent an email apologizing to fans, saying it is a work in progress. The 49ers say they will meet after every game to discuss ways to improve the traffic flow. Business owners around the stadium are also worried that the 49ers traffic will become their problem. Many streets near the stadium have signs prohibiting parking on game day. People say that could direct the tailgaters right into the business parking lots, so some are installing fences to keep them out. Like to have a pretty quiet and safe working area. Having a game day, people will be coming here early. A lot of activity. The Companies Say theyll have extra security guards working on game days to keep the parking spots open for customers. A new round of crash test reports are out, raising questions about the safety of some of those small cars we see on the roadway today. The latest round of testing by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety say only the mini Cooper Countryman received the highest safety rating. The reason why, the frame keeps the space around the driver and passengers in tact and lets the seat belts and air bags do their jobs. The test replicates what happens when the front corner of the car crashes into something at 40 miles an hour. 7 of the 12 cars tested received acceptable or marginal ratings. But four of them received poor ratings, including the fiat 500l, nissan juke, and the mazda 5. The survival space wasnt well maintained, and that means things are pushing against the occupant, pushing on the legs. The manufacturers of smoez sma those small cars point out all four did do well in other crash tests and plan improvements to do better in this particular one. Well, no strollers, no highchairs. Theyve installed signs proubting strollers, highchairs, and states, crying children are a distraction to other diners and will not be allowed in the dining room. Parents say the signs are offensive.
