hurd joins us from the jail with the latest. cheryl? >> reporter: derek al mena arrived here four hours ago. alameda county sheriffs will travel to los angeles to pick up max harris, all of this after terror for 36 families. i talked to one of the victim's mothers last night. >> that place was set up like a death trap. our daughters and sons didn't have much of a chance. >> reporter: reaction from a mother whose mother was one of the first to be identified after the ghost ship fire. she told me tonight that the arrests of two men facing involuntary manslaughter charges couldn't come soon enough. >> you feel like you are in this state of limbo waiting to hear something. it feels better to know there is movement going on. >> reporter: that moment became apparent at a news conference. the alameda county district attorney nancy o'mali explaining why the two men were arrested today. >> the defendants knowingly created a fire trap and are now facing the consequence of their actions. >> reporter: authorities arrested derek almena in lake county. max harris in los angeles. many family members too emoti emotional to talk on camera about today's arrest. one telling us off camera he is frustrated more people aren't being prosecuted for the death of 36 people. meanwhile, donna says her daughter was smart, funny skpk special. she's pleased with today's arrest but dealing with her difficult is difficult. >> i loved their so much. and she was quite a bright little spirit. i -- i think that the world really lost something, someone important, in donna. >> reporter: almena will be actions the men claimed 236 innocent lives. for years they worked hard to deceive official. because of their callous disregard for human life they deserve to be prosecute fahd the fullest extent of because so many states and citizens are on board. >> we can build the critical mass of the country that is in fact limiting the damage that is done over this period of time. then in 2018, if you haven't the elections boom, you have a totally different dynamic. >> reporter: kerry season just talking. he says he is still working on thesish us a. he has a planned trip to vietnam in the coming with more on that video. that owner didn't back town. he saved a lot of people. >> he did, courageously risking his life as the three attackers tried to injure did kill how many people they could, the owner safed hess customers. chaos was breaking out, terrorists stabbing people on the street outside the restaurant on london bridge. the owners and workers moved the tanls inside, closing glass doors and inviting more people in who were running by. moments later one of the terrorists looking for a target. the owner stands strong and they leave. his heroics saving the 28 people inside. moments later outside dramatic video shows police confronting the killers. one man trying to survive as officers fire at the men who left dozens dead and injured. dozens more running for their lives. >> i just saw two guys getting shot. >> reporter: officers killing the three attackers within minutes? we do know who they are. we have made a number of arrests. >> reporter: it began just before 10:00 saturday terrorists driving their van on the london bridge. at 10:08 first dot the first call the van mounted the sidewalk ramming pedestrians. on the south side of the bridge three men jumped out, they ran into borough market stabbing donald trumpers at pub and diners at a restaurant. eight minutes after they were called police fired 50 shots killing all three attackers outside the pub. heavy security remains at the london bridge this week. this is third deadly attack in the uk in the last three months mt ian cull nbc bay area news. new at 11:00, a freak accident involving a golf cart has a south bay family grieving. a woman died on friday in wallace southeast of sacramento. the chp says she was a passenger in a golf cart when the driver turned sharp will he throwing her from the cart and onto the wine glass she was holding cutting her badly. the driver of the golf cart was her partner of 17 years and was drunk at the time. he was arrested but has been released. we now know the name of the man arrested in connection with the killing of an australian tourist in san francisco. police say he got into a fight on friday with matthew bates. bates later died from his injuries. although no arrests have been made san francisco police say they could use more information on the case. sierra lamar's convicted killer will live out the rest of his days in prison. legal proceedings are not over yet. today jurors dee client to recommend the death penalty for ant listen torres. the family of sierra lamar walked out of the courtroom with prosecutors. her parents spoke out about that decision. >> well i'm glad he is going to be off the streets. i have no comment otherwise. >> i would be lying if i said i wasn't disappointed. you know, the crime, i thought, deserved the maximum sentence. >> it's been a painful journey for the will mars. the defense team filed a motion for a new trial. a hearing for the motion is scheduled for september. what is next? the defense wants that new trial. that's because the judge recently overturned another murder conviction based largely on false statistical evidence different by the same sergeant who testified in the sierra lamar trial. our legal analyst says even if there is a new trial ant listen garcia torres won't face the same punishment. >> if there is there was a new trial it would be for life in prison without the possibility of parole. he will never face the death pen al even if he is given a new trial. >> he says if there is a new trial it will likely be held in another county given all the media coverage on this case. if the new trial is not granted, sierra's family will be able to address torres directly when they make their victim impact statement. we have posted photos showing the most heart on russian hacking. the document says hackers attacked voting systems just days before the 2016 presidential election. the d.j. d.o.j. charged a 25-year-old with removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet. the document doesn't specify if the hacking changed any votes. she is out of the white house but the former first lady is not stopping her work.
