Then it moves to the south, impacting the east bay peninsula and then down towards san jose. So with this storm as it moves in, im tracking main flood threats, the first one is marin, now in napa. And basically if you live near a stream, you need to be careful approaching it. It could be dangerous. The highest threat is the Santa Cruz Mountains where the flash flood threat is through thursday, especially near the loma fire burn zone. There is just not a lot of vegetation to hold in the ground, and we could see more rainfall. Ill be back at 10 and 11 19 tonight. I mean, a billion accounts should be very difficult to get user names and passwords. They should be encrypted. There should be no way to get it but obviously that happened. Reporter scott has lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains for more than 40 years and says this approaching storm he protects will not be fun. It can flood quite a bit. Highland way gets flooded, and culverts plug up, and ditches overflow. Reporter he and his family have protected their property from floods all in an area that has been hit hard by recent fires and now more prone to face landslides. And he claims Santa Cruz County is not prepared on his road, not doing enough to clear out storm drains. We have a problem with the county roads to accurately maintain the ditches. Reporter many municipalities are offering free sandbags. And on the road we saw extra officers trying to keep the drive safe along highway 17. But the big test will be, will all of this prep pay off when all of us are dealing with a storm headache . These are sandbags, that by the way will be available throughout the night and pretty much all day tomorrow if you need to get them not only here in los gatos but all through the bay area. All municipalities have a way to get the free bags. And to find out how much the storm will affect all of us. Lets go to nbc bay areas jeff ranieri, how does it look . The reason they have the sandbags out well see a lot in less than 20 hours so its a lot of rainfall in a short amount of time. And that is why folks across the Santa Cruz Mountains are so concerned. Looking at the storm system off to the north we have not seen anything heavy in terms of rainfall developing just yet. And its all about the sub tropical boost of moisture from the south. This is moistureladen air, a trigger for wet weather, all signs are pointing to tomorrow being very wet across the bay area. Flash Flood Warning in effect, we saw rick reporting throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains, two to three inches expected. Mud and debris flow possible especially where the loma fire burned. There is not a lot of vegetation to hold the ground in. That is why this will be the highest flood threat. You want to watch the rivers and streams. Mainly cloudy to start in the south bay, 49 degrees, also a little bit of wet weather for the peninsula and the trivalley. The best chance here heavier pockets in San Francisco and also the north bay where the commute will be the worst. Especially of those of you living in marin, napa and sonoma counties heading to San Francisco for work. Now the time line, that is what all of you want. Youre laying in bed, thinking how does tomorrow play out for mf 6 00 a. M. We have heavier rain developing in middletown, calistoga, and once we hit the afternoon, it moves on towards contra costa county, alameda counties and down towards the south bay. By the afternoon it will continue to push across the south bay when the flood threat would be the highest here throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains right around 5 30 p. M. , maybe into 7 00 p. M. In the evening, and later the storm system moves to the south by 10 p. M. Look, i dont want to over do it. But it should be said that every single forecast model is showing just about the same scenario, this widespread area of rainfall moving through the bay area. So if you have any type of commuting, please provide extra time. If you can telecommute that will probably be the best, locked in at about one to one and a quarter of an inch, well get through it fine but those of you in the Higher Elevations that need to watch out the purple and red areas wenr show here on the map, east bay, and Santa Cruz Mountains, that is where we need to watch. 24 miles an hour wind gusts could take down trees and bring Power Outages as well.
