trains. thank you for joining us. >> an intense manhunt across the bay area for the suspect who police say stabbed his girlfriend to death. it started about noon when she was stabbed at a home in san mateo. they were able to track the car to san carlos. live at the crime scene and kristi, this is not the first time they had been called to the house. >> they have a number of responses to that address for domestic violence related issues. this time the woman inside was able to call for help, but didn't survive. >> police believe he stabbed his girlfriend to death in san mateo. neighbors are stunned. >> what happened to that baby and then the guy doesn't have no concerns. he doesn't have a heart. >> here called for help around noon and crews tried and couldn't save her. the suspect fled and got into a hit-and-run. his car located in a medical facility. it was closed, but not urgent care. >> he has been evacuated from the building. >> the swat teams and sheriffs deputies assisted and they contacted police while they checked riders. they haven't found him yet. >> they are actively looking for the suspect this this case. this does appear to be a domestic violence related homicide. >> they gathered evidence and saw police revealed they have been here before. >> i can tell you that we are working on a homicide investigation and a number of times for domestic violence related cases. >> they are struggling to understand. >> to be apart from this one, but i see what happened. >> this appears to be a tragic example of how domestic violence can escalate and an unfortunate the end of it. witness again tomorrow night into monday, we could have another freeze warning. also the welcome return. seeing more rain in the forecast. we will let you know if this will show up at the end of your weekend. >> thank you so much. the bay area cold snap causing cars to crash and people shiver as they brave the temperatures. heading to christmas in the park in downtown san jose, but only the well-prepared can brave the experience. joining us in milpitas with how they are responding to the plummeting temperatures. >> reporter: you can see my breath when i talk. if the chill in your bones is not proof enough, it's 11:05 and 44 degrees. that's down 2 degrees and expected to get lower overnight. they are about to bundle up and brave the cold at christmas in the park. this offers no refrom chilly temperatures and johnny gonzalez had to double up with his own strategy. my is freezing. >> temperatures in the low 40s. >> i wanted to be indoors and warm. >> some were still determined to wear shorts and dine outside huddled next to a fire pit. others tried a different approach. >> i move around a lot. >> the cold snap kept people from moving after a truck flipped over on the bridge north of highway 92. that's because of icy conditions. another car slammed into the truck. three people suffered minor injuries. crews say they plan to be out to put salt on the highways to prevent beings like the one you saw. here's advice. you lose most of your body heat through your hands, head, and feet. make sure those areas are covered. it's not a good idea to drink alcohol because told us they had to see it. the water is now back on. this is after a pipe broke and sent thousands of gallons of water. a 16 inch pipe that ruptured sold about 70 years ago. freezing temperatures and police are being looking for the driver that slammed into a fire hydrant about 9:00 tonight near victoria drive. police found alcohol containers near the abandoned vehicle. plain was close and no roads were shut down. crews are working to shut down the hydrant. >> a roadblock for crews making one of the largest reservoirs earthquake safe. crews found new trace faults near the dam located along kennedy creek. now they have to make sure they retro fit. $193 million project is behind schedule and construction won't begin until 2018. it is expected to be completed in 2021. a motive remains unclear after a gunman opens fire on a planned parenthood clinic and talk talks about no more babies. he was taken in with the standoff and during questioning, he went on a rand about apportion and president obama. he was armed with an ak-47 rifle when he fired at planned parenthood yesterday. among the victims was a six-year veteran of a police force. he was also a former competitive ice skater and was a partner of u.s. olympian nancy kerrigan. >> he was one of my best friends when i was a kid. even though you still carry like this. >> the other two victims have not been identified. they are calling the shooting a crime against women receiving health care at planned parenthood. >> now going to nbc bay area follow-up. the truck has been found. the $20,000 worth of supplies inside are all about a burglary and got stuck. the homeowner was away and he knew something was wrong when he lit a fire. >> he said to light a fire in the fireplace and there was somebody calling out for help in the chimney. >> the homeowner put out the fire and called police and said the burglar was dead when firefighters broke into the chimney. >> in the household armed by an intruder. they found a masked man demanding cash. the man and the woman who live in the home were shaken. this took place at the end of a dead end street. they are pretty much on edge. >> it's a frightening feeling to feel that your neighborhood is not what you thought it was. >> police say the man was wearing khakis and a black sweatshirt and a ski mask. if you have information, call the police department. a sad update to a story we brought you at 5:00 and 6:00. officials say the stranded dolphin calf we told you about has been euthanized. the dolphin was found in the waters off the preserve in monterey county. rescuers were able to capture the calf, however veterinarians say the dolphin's condition was deteriorating and no luck finding the mother. they looked for it. after careful consideration, they said the young dolphin couldn't survive on its own and the humane option was to euthanize. >> big business racking up huge sales. the focus was on small businesses like those in down down palo alto. they showed support for small business saturday where people go out of their way to find the mom and pop stores. are president obama showed support for small business saturday today and stopped at a d.c. bookstore and a coffee shop where sasha and malia got mexican popsicles. didn't matter how cool it was. >> i wonder if it was colder there than d.c. they look warm there. it was chilly. >> temperatures are cold in the west here in the bay area. 40 degrees in san jose. 30s in the trivalley. 36 in livermore and near freezing. oakland is 42 degrees. the east bay in san francisco is 46. closer to the water to keep temperatures up and napa down to 36 and speaking of the wind, if you are getting a night where you can factor in the wind chill, the hills of the north bay. when the air temperature is 30 degrees, the feels like temperature on your skin is 23. very uncomfortable. it's a factor of wind and when they drop into the 30s, it's uncomfortable. 20s and 30s across the valleys. tomorrow morning, once we figured to get to the afternoon, not a bad day. cool sunshine around san jose. it should be in the mid- to upper 50s around san francisco and the north bay. livermore 56 and walnut creek about 56 degrees. notice the temperatures starting off in the 20s for tomorrow morning. the high tomorrow night will see increasing clouds, but it falls apart. it the bring in more clouds that will offset the temperatures. by tuesday and wednesday, back into the 40s. temperatures starting to warm up. the thursday weather system will bring warming in terms of the winds out of the south. a chance of rain showers which we hope will bring about a half inch of rain. the most substantial is off of the golden gate and towards next weekend, 50s and 60s for highs and the chilly weather
