Well, raj, were about three hours south of portland, oregon, it is an active crime scene here where crews are blocking the entrance to the Community College as the group tries to come to grips with this unimaginable tragedy. Reporter the park is about three miles from the deadly shooting at umpqua Community College. Oddly, i just didnt end up with thursday classes this year. So i got lucky because i would have been in the building. Reporter police say the gunman, 26yearold Christopher Harper mercer opened fire in a classroom at ucc. One survivor said the suspect wanted to know his religion before he opened fire. We ran out of the building, everybody went every which way. It was chaotic. The suspect is down, multiple gunshot wounds. Reporter mercer was killed in the fight with the officers. Tonight, the sheriff says he doesnt want to name him, because he doesnt want him to become famous, the fame that the suspect was seeking. We need love and compassion and healing and its going to take a long time. Reporter and also tonight state and local leaders here in oregon are asking people to donate blood. The community here in roseburg says the pain will linger for a long time but they vow to find comfort in each other, cry together. And together begin to heal. The suspects family lives in southern california. We spoke with his father earlier this evening. I am very shocked about what happened today. I have just been talking to the police and fbi. Investigators soon searched the familys benicia home and the office of the business. Nolan, who was at home during the search told them he stayed behind and never went to the cabin. But authorities found evidence disputing this, some they recovered at the family truck at the home and some from the business. We located a firearm, ammunition as well as mr. Buchanans identification and ms. Mcafees identification. Arriving at the family home in did benicia, he didnt have anything to say. The lower that pressure goes, again the stronger that storm system gets and we expect it to continue to stay strong at least for the next 24 hours. The current path has it parallel to the United States saturday and sunday as a strong hurricane. And then as we head into monday its just offshore, the northeast with winds at about 80 miles an hour. So maybe not a direct hit with this storm system. But again it will be the rainfall, anywhere from three to six inches possible. Isolated amounts of ten inches and or higher.
