The airline issued this statement saying airasia indonesia regrets to confirm that flight qz8501 from surabaya to singapore has lost contact with air Traffic Control at 7 24 this morning. It happened 45 minutes into the flight. The aircraft was on the submitted flight plan route and was requesting deviation due to en route weather before communication was lost. You are looking at a live picture of the airport in singapore where relatives of the missing passengers are waiting to hear word about their loved ones. The Airlines Says search and rescue operations are now in progress. President obama has been alerted about the missing plane and the ntsb is also monitoring the situation. The captain in command had 6,100 flying hours and the aircraft had undergone its last scheduled maintenance on november 16th.
