public's help tracking down a man who hit and killed a man at 8:30 last night. cheryl hurd is in san jose with the latest in the investigation and the clues that might help them find the driver. cheryl? >> reporter: police don't have many clues tonight. it was dark at the time of the hit and run. but chp officers are trying to get the word out because they believe that somebody saw something that can help them solve the case. >> he just heard a loud thump and that was it. >> it doesn't make sense. he would never cross in the middle of the street. >> reporter: maria is almost certain that the man who was hit by a truck and left for dead is the same man who gets off a bus here at 6:45 every evening. >> he used to have a suitcase on wheels and he used to bring that along with him every day at quarter to 7:00 every day. >> reporter: on saturday police say someone hit him while he was walking just east of harriet avenue in san jose. >> an older model pickup truck unknown make and model number was traveling westbound. at some point the two of them collided. >> reporter: it was dark and some people saw a pickup truck leaving the scene. >> we have no description of the driver as it was 8:45 at night and the sun had set. in that area this are not a lot of street lights. >> reporter: the pickup was white or beige in color with a red stripe on the hood. traffic is not heavy in the area and they don't know much about the victim. >> he left them there. >> reporter: but those who live here are in shock. >> how could you do that? how could anybody do that? it's terrible. >> reporter: the only thing we know about the victim is that he is a 61-year-old man. if you have information, please contact the chp. reporting live i'm cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. we have new information tonight on a labor dispute involving ac transit. it looks like it is back to the bargaining table. the union members voted against the tentative contract agreement. the union says that it included a 9.5% raise and increased employee contributions to medical benefits. the negotiating committee will meet to plan the next steps. ac transit has not received word of a possible strike. changes in the weather tonight. a live look in san jose where the temperatures are in the 70s right now. warm and dry conditions and the threat of lightning have the firefighters on alert tonight. rob mayeda is tracking it in the weather center right now. >> the temperature is still 74 degrees and 80 in livermore after 11:00 as the temperatures are taking a slow time from cooling down from near 100 degree heat in the tri-valley earlier. the sea breeze is not reaching livermore at all and quite dry for this hour. the humidity levels are quite dry. you can see the tan inland, dry below at sea level. and on top of the dry layer we could see the michaoisture movi closer to the bay area. as that thunderstorm activity starts to drift away from the sierra and heads to the bay area it will be the hill top locations where lightning-sparked fires could be the issue. and look at the temperatures you will be waking up to in the morning. mid- to upper-60s. a balmy start to the morning. and by lunchtime some places could be close to 90 degrees. we'll talk about the hot weather and the fire danger to start out the workweek coming up in a few minutes. >> happening right now, an intense fire fight is under way in central idaho near sun valley. 1200 firefighters are engaged in a ground and air attack. the wildfire has burned 160 square miles since being sparked by lightning a week and a half ago. although the fire has not reached the resort at this point, the crews have evacuated 2300 homes there. we have new information about the san francisco fire department and a controversial decision involving the airplane crash at sfo last month. the issue centers on a firefighter who used a helmet mounted video camera that captured the moment a fire truck ran over and killed one of the victims. these are some of the images from the camera. the fire department banned video cams are four years ago and now that ban was meant to include emergency scenes as well. she cites privacy issues but critics say that the ban is outrageous and aimed at protecting the department from lawsuits. the video should be used to improve response decisions in the future. and the camera was personal and not department-issued. we will learn more about the limo fire on the san matteo bring tomorrow. the police will release the report tomorrow. five womens including a bride to be were killed when the limo burst into flames on may 4th. police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that slammed into a home. the truck crashed through the front door of the home. the truck ended up in the living room and caused significant damage. emergency crews helped an elderly woman to safety who was in a back bedroom. >> an elderly lady living in the house was unhurt and was at the rear of the house in bed listening to music at the time of the crash. >> the police are looking for the driver of the 1990 ford truck. a violent and deadly weekend in oakland. three shootings in less than 24 hours all involving multiple victims. the latest last night. a man and woman were shot while sitting in a car with a child not far from mills college. the woman died at the scene. the man is expected to survive. the four-year-old was cut when the gunfire shattered the car windows. that follows another yesterday afternoon. four people were shot, all survived. we learned that the victims caught a purse thief in the act. the suspect had run off but then returned with a gun and opened fire. there was another shooting friday night. two people were shot and killed in east oakland. there is a $25,000 reward for information that leads to arrest in any of those shootings. now to a nbc bay area followup. a singer injured in an attack captured on camera plans to file a civil lawsuit tomorrow. he sat down with monte frances to explain why they are filing that lawsuit. >> reporter: lester chambers is 73 years old and hasn't been the same since the attack and his doctor says he won't be able to perform for at least eight months. >> and i was on stage and that's where i -- >> reporter: lester chambers just had dedicated a song to treyvon martin when a woman jumped on stage, started yelling and pushed him over. as she continued to attack, band members struggled to pull her off. >> came directly to me -- you -- you started this, you -- with a face that was scary. >> reporter: the attack left chambers with bruised ribs and a hip injury. he walks with the assistance of a cane and has trouble breathing. the attacker was charged with two felonies, assault and elder abuse. the attorney says the civil lawsuit names her, the city of heyward, which sponsored the festival, and those in charge of concert security. >> this woman was able to walk -- you know, or run into the facility without paying, without being stopped. and run up to mr. chambers. >> reporter: heyward police potter claims she is a veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and the beat of the song triggered the attack. >> burris says that doesn't make sense. >> reporter: there were other songs that were sung that day. i don't know why none of them triggered them. that's a question. >> reporter: chambers says that she yelled it's all your fault before shoving him. he says the incident forced him to cancel a series of performances and he has no idea when he will be able to take the stage again. >> i can't probably breathe. i'm not the same any more. >> reporter: and hey ward city attorney told me he could not comment on the lawsuit because he has not yet seen the claim. tomorrow they are planning to hold a news conference and plan to announce the amount of monetary damages they're seeking. hive live in san francisco, monte frances. a person fell from a cliff near the ritz karlton around 2:10 this afternoon. he was rushed to the hospital. the cliffs in that area can appear stable but can crumble quickly under pressure. and still to come at 11:00, more drama on the bay. we'll flavors your heart will love. we have new video into our newsroom from indonesia. officials say about 30 inmates escaped after a riot broke out in the western part of that country. it began with a group of inmates staged a protest. the head of the prison told local media they assaulted a prison officer and set fire to the prison. the prison has a capacity of 300 inmates but is believed to be holding about 800. this is the third jailbreak in indonesia this year. egypt remains on edge tonight after days of bloody protests ahead the military says further violence will not be tolerated. clashes have left nearly 900 people dead. egyptian officials say today security forces fired tear gas at a prison truck in an attempt to free a prison officer, killing at least 36 suspects. in the bay area people gathered to rally at the u.n. plaza not far from city hall. they are against the military coup and the military crack down. they demanded that the u.s. suspend its support of the military. >> the theme that unifies everyone here today and what the call for this day was, is to stand up for humanity. a very simple call. people have been dying. >> and according to independent news reports more than 850 people have died since last wednesday in protest with the military. the first family is back home at the white house after a week-long vacation at martha's vineyard. here they are arriving. he spoke out only once, making a statement against the ongoing violence in egypt. sexual harassment allegations are promming some people in san diego to launch a recall effort to remove their mayor. bob filner is refusing calls to resign despite facing sexual harassment allegations from a dozen women. 101,000 signatures have to be collected to trigger a recall election. community members will have several opportunities to give an input about the future of the contra costa fire district. budget cuts have led to fire station closures for the past two years. the meetings will give people a chance to offer feed back that is critical to evaluating the fire district. the first meeting is at the pittsburg public library tomorrow at 6:30. take a look at this video. three cars went up in flames in the parking lot of o.co coliseum last night. that massive plume of smoke could be seen inside the stadium as well at least one car was destroyed and several more were burned. investigators believe the fire was sparked by hot barbecue coals that were not put out after a tailgate party. now to the coverage of the america's cup. the drama is building on the bay. high winds breeze. into fairfield and livermore and the story tomorrow we're going to start off warmer than today and a hot day is expected in the bay area. many folks heading back to school tomorrow. campbell unified with temperatures in the 60s tomorrow. you don't need a thick coat. temperatures in the 90s in the afternoon. milpitas untied underway. mid- to upper-80s in the afternoon. look at all the lightning strikes. more than 300 in the sierra this evening. things tapering off a bit. it is going to make a turn to the west during the day tomorrow monday into tuesday. that will increase the chance of lightning-sparked fires. the reason for the red flag warning is that lightning occurs over dry and warm air. and things moisten up and we could see rain at times getting into tuesday morning. hour by hour, you can see the moisture coming to the bay area. look at the morning temperatures, mid- to upper-60s. increasing clouds heading into monday night. and things will turn calm by wednesday as the low tracks inland the chance of showers shut down. so rainfall projections picking up as we go into monday night and tuesday. you can see the hill tops that would be a good thing to get wetting rain to offset the chance of lightning. 90s in the forecast for inland locations. some of the hottest temperatures we'll see in the bay area tomorrow, upper 60s to near 70 in san francisco and mid- to upper-80s in the north bay with the threat of thunder at its highest likely tomorrow night into tuesday morning, wednesday that low moves on. the temperatures will drop for the middle part of the week thanks to the sea breeze coming back. we'll lose the tropical component to the weather. and the second half of the week will be nicer. back to our typical regime of morning clouds and the rooks will hit the field. that's coming up here on nbc bay area. in pre-season football the result of games mean nothing. but individual outcomes can determine who plays and sits and doesn't make the roster. right now the 49ers and raiders are half way to the regular season and each team has a lot to be decided. the 49ers this year, the top pick, eric reed has been impressed with his play on the field and many expect to see him start week one. but, what does jim harbaugh think? >> it's been very positive. yes, i think everything that he's shown, there's a -- there will be looks for him at investigators have tried to report that the driver was drunk when he hit a cement pillar at 80 miles an hour, trailed by the paparazzi. police sources dismiss the claims as being without supporting evidence but they have to investigate every tip. scotland yard has not reopened the investigation. some scary moments for people on board a jetblue plane bound for baltimore when it had to make an emergency landing because of smoke in the cabin. the pilot decided to divert the flight to philadelphia. there were no injuries. federal officials are investigating the incident. a customer who thomas was the inspiration for anthony hopkins' character in "the rite". >> she is a sick girl. she doesn't need a priest. >> since the movie came out the number of exorcists has quadrupled. >> reporter: to 75 in the u.s. who adds the number of requests for exorcisms he got from a handful in a few years to a 00 a week. but he's not the only one. >> it's the holy spirit fighting against the demons. >> reporter: steve turned somewhere else outside the church when he started hearing voices, first he went to a doctor. >> i'm bi-polar and i go to a psychologist that prescribes mehm medicines. >> reporter: which failed according to the patient so he turned to this man. >> i'm a christian exorcist. >> i feel like i'm doing the work of jesus christ. >> you do understand many people who are seeing this will think that you're crazy. >> they may think i'm crazy but i always prove my point. that's the easiest thing to do is to prove i'm right and they're wrong. >> reporter: oliveira now works out of fresno. he doesn't charge. he takes donations. he is not trained or part of a church. he operates alone under the name demon buster. >> it's dangerous if they think that everything's fine because an exorcism happened but they are not dealing with what could be a mental health issue. >> i always people to continue taking their medication and seeking professional health when they choose to do. people that normally come to me are people who have gave up on that. >> how many of the cases are just mental health issues? >> i think 90%. >> reporter: father thomas works in a team accompanied by three medical professionals. >> i have a medical doctor attached to a local hospital, a clinical psychologist and psychiatrist all who believe in the existence of satan. >> reporter: another misconception is that exorcisms can happen in a day. >> it took four years to excise one more. >> reporter: no major u.s. medical organization recognizes exorcism. >> i'm open to debate anybody on the subject. i'm i've been trying to find scientists and doctors and physicians but nobody wants to debate me. >> reporter: but father thomas says that it doesn't need a debate nor acknowledgment from anyone other than those needing the help. >> people are suffering from what they perceive to be demonic. even though it may not be we are there to support them however we can. and numbers in the 60s for the morning. and you can see the lightning to the east, still to the east right now. but during the day tomorrow the moisture will move from the east back over to the bay area around this area of low pressure which for the next three days just off to the west, pulling that moisture to the bay area which will bring with it the chance of lightning strikes, red flag warning tonight through wednesday morning. hour by hour, the moisture starts to come in, this time tomorrow night we could see scattered showers or a brief thundershower in the bay area. things could say off and on active until the low tracks inland wednesday afternoon and evening. look how warm we start the day off. 8:00, 9:00, already in the mid- to upper-70s. inland lunchtime low 90s in the east bay valleys, 80s in san jose. it looks like a hot afternoon in the bay area with a threat of thundershowers. wednesday as the low starts to move to the east, the showers shut down. the sea breeze will strengthen on thursday. thursday is the coolest day of the week. and things get back to the way they should be. morning clouds and fog and afternoon sunshine which should be good news which we lose the threat of fires as we pass the middle of the week. tonight we introduce you to a remarkable bride. her story is so captivating it is spreading around the world. it all started a few months ago when doctors told jen bullock that her stage iv lung cancer has progressed to the point she should begin to plan for the end. what has happened since then has made her battle a little bit easier and less lonely. her fight and wedding is tonight's bay area proud. east garvin thomas. >> thank you for coming here to celebrate the marriage -- >> reporter: like many newlyweds, jen and her husband don't need encouragement to show you their wedding video. they will sit and watch with you, even though they know how it turns out. ever since jen's diagnosis of lung cancer in january and the news she had just a few months a live, jen and jeff have been trying hard to live in the moment. it helps, they have found, when many of those moments are flat out awesome. jen and jeff got married two weeks ago. with limited money and dwindling time the couple's original plan for a simple wedding and barbecue reception in jen's parent's backyard. but when erica, a wedding planner from the east bay heard the couple's story, she decided to give them something more, a lot more. >> i thought it was amazing. truly one of the best weddings i've ever done. >> reporter: using jen's pinterest page, she convinced people to donate $60,000 in goods and services to create a dream wedding. jen and jeff are not entirely sure it wasn't all just a dream. >> it was magical. it was -- it was the magic moment that we were going for. >> reporter: but the wedding, it turns out, was just part of it. after our story on jen and jeff aired it was viewed, shared, posted and tweeted thousands of times. people from all over the world began sending words of not just encouragement but praise. >> i felt like i was in an alternate world. like i'm just jen bullock. and here all these people, like, want to hear what i have to say. >> reporter: the highlight for jen was when chuck norris wrote a blog post trumpeting her courage and strength, qualities others had long seen in her but she had not seen in herself. >> the people saying, like, i've always said -- i knew you were unique and special and you are the strongest person i have ever known and i -- i didn't know that. >> reporter: the event of these past few weeks have clearly changed jeff and jen's lives but it turns out they weren't the only ones. erica, who started this whole thing just trying to help two people ended up touching so many more, including herself. >> taking it day by day and minute by minute and savoring every moment. i don't think i have ever lived my life that way. and i'm starting to learn how to do that. after meeting jen
