you might recall that. if you watch a lot of giants baseball. here they are again today. it is part of the game. to make matters worse, the giants lose 3-0. we posted the raw video of this brawl on our website on nbcbayarea.com. now to the san jose man who sprung into action after a woman attacked with a stick. he took her down in the street. here's more on what happened. >> reporter: talk about turning the tables. the elderly man fought with the woman and then held onto her for more than ten minutes when deputies arrived. a woman believed to be a transient sneaked up from behind and started attacking her with a stick. >> i bend over for my shoes, i see somebody hit me. and i go, oh, my god. second time she goes one after the other one. she doesn't give me the chance to get up. >> reporter: the aftermath of the attack is still on christina's blood splattered back door. >> i have a lot of pain. all over. especially my head. >> reporter: when he husband heard his wife scream, he ran outside to help. he could tell christina was okay, so he set his sights on the attacker. >> she run. she fight with me. i fight with her. >> reporter: the brawl moved to the front of the house out onto mckee road. several people watched the struggle but despite his pleas for help did nothing. usif says the woman tried to bite him and scratched his arm. still he never let go of her leg for more than ten minutes. >> i keep her here until police come. >> reporter: sheriffs deputies arrested 50-year-old ranu singh. christina went to the hospital to be treated for head injuries. the woman almost beat her hand which is now swollen. she says if her husband of 53 years had not stopped the woman, her injuries could have been much worse. singh is now attempted with assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. nbc bay area news. that grand opening weekend didn't go as planned. a lot of people are worried about the water park in dublin. today a boy fly off one of the high-speed slides on saturday. a photographer with the east bay times shot this video. you can see the boy go down the slide and on the bottom goes off the green side of it and skids across the pavement. fortunately he only had some minor injuries. but today the city of dublin rb regulators, and the manufacturer of that slide are trying to determine how this all happened. nbc bay area's laura mal pert joins us with the latest. is that slide open tonight? >> reporter: no, it is not. the slide we're talking about is that open green slide right there behind me. the unusually cool weather might have scared some people away today, but the accident really didn't seem to bother them much. for anna and her family, this memorial day means family fun time at the wave. >> they want to go here ever since they showed it online that it's going to be open. >> reporter: also at the park today, a safety inspection team including cal osha gathered around the water slide. in video that's gone viral, the bay area news group captured the moment a 10-year-old boy sped down the slide. he washed over the slide wall before skidding on the concrete below. >> it was scary as a parent. >> reporter: the park is owned and operated by the city of dublin. this slide passed a state inspection just last friday. a statement from the manufacturer white water reads in part, we are thankful the 10-year-old involved in the accident walked away without any serious injury. we are working closely with the team at wave and both of their high speed slides have been shut down pending a full investigation from the white water team. park goers we talked to are mindful of the accident, but not scared off. they're ready for those slides to reopen. >> i think i might think about it, but i mean, you only live once so why not. >> i'll be aware how to position my body. >> reporter: ana will also let her kids give it a try. >> i'm sure they already have people check it out, make sure everything is good to go. >> reporter: as you can see, the two other lower speed enclosed slides are open and will remain open during the investigation including other attractions here at the park like the swimming pool. reporting live from dublin, laura malpert. >> thanks for the update. record number of people traveling on this memorial day holiday. take a look at 80, not too bad. slowing coming into san francisco on 80 westbound but looking good. what about the forecast? rob joins us now. >> the weather overall pleasant but perhaps not quite as warm as what you'd expect for the unofficial start this summer. especially 66 degrees and overcast skies right now. we're in the sunshine in san francisco. keeping the temperatures fairly cool. some of the warmest temperatures across northern california right now, the sierra where it's 70. lake tahoe up by squaw valley. intense thunderstorms around the sierra, upper level system moving on by with the heating of the day. firing up the thunderstorms which will not be arriving here in the bay area. instead, it's these low clouds making a comeback as we head through this evening which means more drizzle possible as we head into your tuesday. in fact, cooler temperatures and maybe even a slight chance of showers approaching the better part of the week. a big weekend warm-up in the forecast coming up at 4:45. back to you. >> okay, rob. thank you. paying tribute to our fallen heroes. today the bay area honored the brave men and women who have fought and died for our freedom. ♪ this was aboard the uss hornet in alameda. the ceremony including the casting of a where's into the bay, people were able to meet veterans and tour the ship after the event. also emotional at the cemetery. this was the 149th observance of memorial day there. 37,000 members of the military are buried there. but today one soldier was singled out. mark matthews was at today's ceremony and joins us now with more. mark? >> reporter: raj, that one soldier that was singled out was 21-year-old cesar of santa rosa. he was deployed to iraq, killed in 2006 when his humvee was blown up by a roadside bomb. >> he's one of the last soldiers to be incurred in this cemetery. >> reporter: carl ikenberry says he wanted to tell the personal story of the soldier. >> he did his best to schedule his two week r&r for april of 2006, the start of the abalone diving season. >> reporter: the young private wrote that the two weeks of ab diving with his dad would be the best two weeks of his life. but within days, he was dead. >> may god bless cesar and his parents and may god bless the united states of america. >> reporter: sitting in the front row, his parents. >> we know he wanted to do something he could be proud of. and he was very proud. happy to be with the 101st airborne and we're proud of him as well. >> to have words spoken by people who have served and served in country and then just to have the citizens here to honor, it's meaningful. >> reporter: he had his picture and a wreath and an ambassador and retired general honor his service and sacrifice. one soldier among the 37,000 members of the military that are buried here. today the country pays its respects to those who served their country and died in that service. after speaking with the family, you can't help but think about the family who is have sacrificed and know the true cost of war. reporting, mark matthews, nbc bay area news. >> thank you. and a time honored tradition. president trump participated in the wreath laying ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldier. it takes every year on memorial day to honor the men and women of the u.s. armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. the crowd at arlington national cemetery then joined together for a moment of silence. later the president called those who died special, special people. as the commander in chief marked memorial day, controversy over the ongoing russia investigation still boiled in the background. president trump defended his adviser and son-in-law jared kushner. friday "the washington post" reported he tried to set up back channel communication to the russians before trump took office. the president tells "the new york times," quote, i have total confidence in him. house minority leader nancy pelosi is angry the trump white house appears to be courting a country that investigators confirmed hacked and interrupted our election. >> they are extremely naive or really dangerous. or boat. also today, the president warned north korea against further aggression. he tweeted, north korea has shown great disrespect for their neighbor china by shooting off yet another ballistic missile. senator harris will be touring different parts of california this week to talk about the impact of the president's budget plan. the senator will be at the port of los angeles on wednesday to talk about how the budget would impact transportation, goods movement, and workforce development. sacville police are investigating a shooting that left one officer hurt. it happened this morning near orange drive. the chase ended on the nut tree road overpas. police say an officer killed the driver in a shootout. one officer suffered a minor injury, was taken to the hospital. he has since been released. injuries and scandal have plagued tiger woods. today another setback. he was arrested for dui. police say the government legend and former star was driving erratically near his home in florida. this is his mugshot after he was arrested. officers smelled alcohol on him. when he refused to take a breathalyzer, florida law mandates immediate arrest. golf digest says his medical background has shown excessive drinking or the use of painkillers. a tragic accident as this pickup rolls over and over and over again. two people dead, five critically injured. coming up in a live report, why something like this doesn't typically happen here. also, uber and lyft returning to austin. the piece of legislation signed today the city voted to require voters to be fingerprinted as part of their background checks. what happens from here? and only 67 degrees in dublin right now. we could see temperatures as much as 20 degrees warmer later this week. but before we get there, a chance of some showers heading towards the bay area. we'll tell you when, where, and just how much when we come right back. peninsula. =nats = music =contvo= the )san andreas bss honoring our fallen heroes on the peninsula. ♪ the san andreas brass band on hand playing in san bruno. volunteers placed flags on 113,000 grave sites. a tragic high-speed crash this memorial day killed two people in one of the east bay's oldest and busiest business districts. but this is the kind of crash that can only happen really in this part of alameda either overnight or on a holiday. tom jenson is on the scene for us to explain why. tom? >> reporter: raj, i just talked to a man who just arrived to work here when this happened this morning. he said he could hear the impact at an intersection just feet from where we're standing right now. then he could hear this truck rolling over and over and over again down the street, all the way down the block. he said it was so violent, he could almost feel it. this is an area you don't see something like this. alameda p.d. is very close to this scene and they strictly enforce the speed limits here. this is the aftermath of the accident that alameda p.d. says happened right after 8:00 this morning. a high-speed crash on a normally calm street. >> there's always people that cross the street, so, it's like, hardly ever speeding. >> reporter: she couldn't believe what happened when she came to see what happened at the theater with her kids. >> two people died. >> reporter: the p.d. says this extanded cab truck was speeding westbound when it hit this van damaging the front end and injuring the woman driving it. she's in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. but the truck rolled several times before resting right side up. a tire hundreds of feet down the road. a woman inside that truck pronounced dead at the scene. a man dead a short time later at a nearby hospital. five more people in the truck in area hospitals critically injured. shocking news to the man who manages an antique store right next to where the truck finally landed. >> well, the police station is right behind us, so cars are aware that they have to, you know, drive 25 miles an hour. because the police, they're really strict. >> reporter: like visitors to these shops, phillip lopez says he never sees anyone drive that fast here. >> the street is usually a lot of cars, a lot of people, so this is very rare. >> reporter: alameda p.d. major accident investigative team is investigating this. they've been out here taking measurements all day trying to see exactly how far that truck did roll. that would give it some indication of how fast that truck was going. they said that they have not decided who was at fault here, but they say that speed was a factor. we're live in alameda, thom jensen, nbc bay area news. ride sharing law in texas to get uber and lyft back on austin streets. this morning governor greg abbott signed a new law that scraps the fingerprinting but requires yearly background checks. the old law took away choices from customers when it came to transportation. meteorologist rob mayeda is with us. the weather here? mild. >> mild or a little bit chilly. in fact, on the coast, clouds there all day, misty skies, drizzle at times. and temperatures may trend a little bit cooler here over the next couple of days before we see warmer weather returning heading towards next weekend. right now you got sunshine, looking for belvedere back to san francisco. 66 degrees. across the bay, 59 in the sunshine. that's chilly sunshine. san francisco seeing winds close to 20 miles per hour. still in the 70s around the east bay hills near sunol. mainly mid-60s from palo alto, 66 in san jose. overcast skies and mid-60s right now. here's the culprit. that strong on-shore breeze. those wind speeds into concord up to 20 miles per hour. ocean temperatures here still in the low to mid-50s. so when winds are coming in off that ocean 20 to 30 with low clouds, obviously we're going to see a cool afternoon around the bay area. now, here's the good news. air quality through tomorrow still great with those on-shore breezes all across the coast. good air quality for tomorrow. interesting day here in the sierra. look at all these thunderstorms firing up this afternoon. from highway 50, all that activity will subside after sunset. we will not see this in the bay area, but we will see more low clouds thickening up. just like we had this morning. a chance of finding a little bit of drizzle at times as we get tomorrow started. 7:00 a.m., expect mostly cloudy skies around the bay area. morning temperatures again upper 40s to low 50s. high temperatures tomorrow trending maybe just a little bit cooler than spots. upper 60s to low 70s around san jose. most places inland to 5 to 8 degrees below average for temperatures. but those winds still out of the southwest from 10 to 25 miles per hour through the east bay. peninsula temperatures mostly in the 50s and 60s. low 60s around san francisco. and north bay temperatures still in the low 70s. things will get interesting. late tomorrow night, mostly cloudy skies. brief chance of seeing a few showers early on wednesday morning. and then skies clear as that system moves on wednesday into thursday. that's going to allow high pressure to build in. sea breeze starts to back off a bit. you'll see the rise in the temperatures in the seven-day forecast. going from the cool temperatures the next three days to 70s around san francisco. valley, upper 60s to low 70s to mid to upper 80s possible by next weekend which looks more to me like the unofficial start to summer compared to what we've seen here. >> all those bash kerbecues we this weekend, we should do it next weekend. >> sounds good. thanks. coming up, when antolin garcia torres will learn if he gets life in prison or death. and a home catches fire in the north bay. we'll tell you how many people were forced out as firefighters try to determine the cause. tomorrow closing arguments are set to continue in the )penalty phase ) of the sierra lamar murder cas tomorrow closing arguments are set to continue in is the penalty phase of the sierra lamar murder case. antolin garcia torres was convicted of first degree murder for the death. last week the defense delivered its closing arguments. the prosecutors will get their chance tomorrow. then after that the jury could announce its sentence. ten people are looking for a new place to live after their home caught fire in sonoma valley. fires erupted early this morn g morning. the fire left at least ten people displaced. some of them lived in other places on the property. a gas leak also caused neighbors to evacuate. it's unclear how the fire started. fortunately no one was hurt. up next, the players are ready but what about the coaches?
