Reporter this has been a long time consuming, pains taking investigation to literally dig up the evidence against kaiser for its illegal dumping. The road to the settlement started when District Attorney offices in six california counties including san mateo, San Francisco, and Alameda County began undercover operations after suspecting 16 kaiser facilities were disposing of Hazardous Waste and patients records into public landfills. Attorney general rob banta brought the doj in and found the das were right. If they dont follow the law, if theyre careless with dangerous waste or Sensitive Information the potential for harm is enormous and widespread. Spring is under way today to stop an alarming pest from spreading in the south bay. Weve been reporting that the state is gearing up to fight an infestation of the oriental fruit fly. It can destroy more than 230 types of fruits and vegetables so now 112 square miles of Santa Clara County is under quarantine including the city of santa clara and portions of san jose, milpitas, cupertino, and sunnyvale. State leaders launched a similar quarantine in Contra Costa County. People in the Quarantine Zone cannot transport home grown fruit and disposed produce must be double bagged and sealed. Rules will remain in effect until at least june. What is the extent of the fall out of the scandal in antioch. Four murder defendants are contesting their arrests and criminal charges in a martinez platform after Antioch Police officers exchanged racist texts about the case. Today a judge heard arguments from both sides. Defendants want the charges dropped. Family members of the victims disagree. An east bay man is accused of murdering and dismembering his girlfriend and was in court for a hearing today. In july a dismembered body was found in a bag along the alameda shore line. Last week the coroner identified the remains as those of 27yearold rachel buckner. On wednesday u. S. Marshals along with pleasanton and Livermore Police arrested 42yearold Joseph Roberts at the pleasanton apartment he shared with buckner. Neighbors said there were clear signs of trouble including frequent arguments they could hear through the walls. Tonight a first look at a report by the grand jury that investigated former President Trumps involvement in trying to overturn the 2020 Election Results in georgia. There are some surprising revelations. Grand jurors recommended indicting 21 people who were ultimately not indicted nor charged. Among them a sitting u. S. Senator and two former u. S. Senators. To suggest i am part of a grand scheme to overturn the election makes no sense. Reporter georgias republican secretary of state has said that senator graham suggested the secretary had the authority to reject certain absentee ballots making him feel pressured. Senator graham today refuting that, insisting he simply wanted clarity about the states process before voting to certify the election. Asking questions about the mailin voting process. Reporter the newly revealed names come after a judge ordered the release of a report summarizing the findings of the special grand jury that investigated mr. The grand jury makes decisions perhaps about who they can indict who they believe there is sufficient evidence for. Then it is up to the prosecutor to exercise her discretion to make a decision as to who they should indict. Reporter Health Experts tell me this has been an ongoing issue for years. There is a shortage of doctors in general but latinos at the top of the list. Gardener Health Services has all the equipment it needs but it is lacking a key component, enough latino doctors to serve the largely latino patients. It as challenge. Reporter this is the ceo at gardner and his latino physician roster mirrors the state and county. In california only 6 of physicians are latino according to the latest research out of ucla. In Santa Clara County onequarter of the population is latino and only 4 of all doctors are latino yet latinos make up 51 of the countys hospital janitorial staff. Latino providers and physicians. They are the most difficult because everybody wants them because they can communicate. They are bilingual and can relate. Reporter why is that important . She says when her children were small she had to use hand signals with doctors because neither spoke the others language. So on september 27th doctors in Santa Clara County and across the country are celebrating National Latino physicians day, an effort to knock down the barriers and convince more latino students to enter the medical field. They realize the road to a meaningful solution is a long one. Basically said we would need 54,000 more physicians to reach parity. Reporter you laugh but it is not funny. That is a nervous laugh. Reporter he says it will be a daily struggle trying to recruit latino doctors from a small pool everyone is trying to get into.
