The property is la quinta hotel in El Camino Real in millbrae. The supervisors voted to pend 33 million to convert the hotel into housing for homeless families. Supervisor canepa voted no saying the county lacks a plan for the workers that will be displaced. We should have worked with the city of millbrae to solve the issues upfront. Bottom line is, those employees are not guaranteed a job. I thought we could Work Together to solve that issue, and the board had a different opinion. Thats fine. Some people in millbrae showed up to the meeting to fight the deal citing concerns about the proximity to schools and really the overall cost of it. Critics also say the property will attract more unhoused people to the city. Okay. It will cost you more going to san jose state and other cal state schools are on the cusp of creeping up. The csu board of trustees is decided to volt on a opinion to raise tuition every year for five years. It increases tuition 6 each year. By 2027 students would be paying nearly 2,000 more than now. The University System says it needs the extra money to keep up with rising costs. Students and teachers are hoping the board will rethink the plan. Unfortunately, by continuing to saddle more students with financial burden, we are making it more difficult to achieve this particular objective of improving one self and educating one self. If approved, the hike starts next school year. University leaders say 60 of students will not be affected because their tuition is already covered by grants or waivers.
